They play for the cup right?

It's really great to have a successful team in Cincinnati for a change! Now it's just a shame no one supports them, and our newspaper doesn't cover them...

2-1 eh? sounds like an intense game. No wonder hockey isn't popular.

I'm going to try to get a large group to get together and go to the Kelly Cup opener this coming Saturday at US Bank Arena.  $10 sounds like a bargain for a championship game.

^ No kidding.  With as small as US Bank Arena is, it'll be a crime if they don't sell out some of these games at $10 a seat.

That "largest crowd in Cyclones history" comment was dead wrong.  They used to sell out the Gardens at 10,000+ every Friday and Saturday night for years.  Those games were a blast to go to.  Then they moved to The Crown, raised ticket prices from $6 to $10, and it's never been the same.

They were fun to watch at the Gardens!

Well I won't be at the cup opener, but I will be at the Sunday night game... Got awesome tix, right next to the cylclones bench, on the glass... WOO HOO.  Say hey if you come to Sunday's game!

Every since the playoffs have started I've been seeing them on the news and in the papers quite a bit. Heck even Maysville has coverage of them in the Ledger. Maybe they'll be more popular next year if we win the Cup. I wish I could go this weekend but I have to work instead. :(

Cyclones Holding Pep Rally On Fountain Square

Last Update: 12:30 pm

It's going to be a historic weekend for the Cincinnati Cyclones.  The hockey team will be competing for the right to hoist the Kelly Cup beginning Saturday night at US Bank Arena.  The Cyclones will be taking on the Las Vegas Wranglers.

This is the first time that the Cyclones have advanced to the ECHL championship.  Fans wanting to get in on some of the excitement will have an opportunity on Thursday.

There will be a pep rally for the team on Fountain Square from 5 until 6:30 p.m.  The puck drops for game one Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

I haven't seen an article online, but supposedly some vandals were arrested for spray painting the Cyclone logo all over Fountain Square.

I heard it on radio this morning, but I'm not too alert then.

I saw some cyclones logos spray painted right near the curb corners that they just repaired at the corner of 4th and vine...

Is this city ready for an NHL team?

^

Although i would love that i don't think that the average attendance of like 9,000 supports the argument.

I don't even think the average attendance is that high, but I get your point.  I think it might be better for Cincinnati to become the biggest and best thing at this level.  That means have one of the best fan followings, be a winning powerhouse, and just do the darn thing.

Honestly I don't think this region (I'm talking larger like Dayton, Cbus, Indy, Cincy) can support yet another professional team.  Lets take what we have now and make it amazing...maybe, just maybe after that we'll have a convincing argument.  Until then I say make the Cyclones the predominant franchise in their league.

BTW, I managed to get a group of 7 people (including myself) to head on down to the game tonight.  None were originally planning on going, but were excited when I gave the details about $10 tix, $1 beer, and championship hockey.  We'll also be down at the pep rally. on Fountain Square, for some pre-gaming and Taste of Cincinnati action.

I had originally planned on going tonight but some issues came up so now that is a no go. I hope they sell out and that they kick some Wrangler @ss.

I am going with friends. I hope it doesn't sell out before we get down there.

Did anyone else go Saturday? Talk about an awesome game. I hope we sweep the wranglers.

Go Clones!!

Cyclones power past Wranglers

8,676 fans revel in 4-2 win over Vegas

The Cincinnati Cyclones didn't waste much time showing their mettle in the Kelly Cup Finals.  The Cyclones netted three first-period power play goals that set the tone in a 4-2 defeat of the Las Vegas Wranglers Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena.  The 'Clones enter today's 7:30 p.m. Game 2 with a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.

Cyclones standout David Desharnais scored two goals and added an assist, and Bryan Schmidt and Mathieu Aubin added goals that delighted a playoff-record crowd of 8,676. Three of the goals came on the power play.  Coach Chuck Weber said special teams play helped launch the Cyclones in the right direction.

The Cyclones are aiming to become the first Cincinnati-based pro hockey team to win a championship since 1973.  That year the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Swords captured the Calder Cup in five games.

I ended up missing the game on Saturday and instead went on Sunday.  There were almost 7,000 at that one.  Unfortunately the 'clones lost a close one to Las Vegas (0-1).

The 'Clones are evened up in the series now at 2-2.  Game 5 will be in Las Vegas tomorrow at 7:05pm.  There will be a guaranteed Game 6 and a good possibility at a Game 7 (both would be in Cincy).

Here are the upcoming times/dates for the Cyclones homes games:

Thursday, June 5th - 7:30pm (US Bank Arena, Cincinnati)

Saturday, June 7th - 7:30pm (US Bank Arena, Cincinnati)

Cincy wont tonight 4-0!

Game 6 tonight (7:30pm - $10 tix)!!!

I'll be there, with a few friends, cheering the Cyclones on to the Kelly Cup Championship.

I'm goin! I hear I may be sitting up higher than usual...

I couldn't make it so I have to watch it on the computer.  :-(

WOOHOO!!!

Cyclones win championship

BY TOM RAMSTETTER | [email protected]

There was nothing minor-league about the scene inside US Bank Arena Thursday night as the Cyclones became the first Cincinnati pro sports team to win a championship since 1990.  A record crowd of 12,722 watched Cincinnati beat Las Vegas 3-1 in Game 6 to win the Kelly Cup Finals four games to two.

It was the largest playoff crowd in the history of the ECHL and the Cyclones. It was the seventh-largest hockey crowd in US Bank Arena history.  Cyclones forward Matt Syroczynski scored a power-play goal less than a minute into the third period, giving the Cyclones a 2-1 lead and putting Cincinnati in position to claim its first East Coast Hockey League title.

Bravo!  I made it for game one, but a rough week kept me at home for the rest of the series.  I'm glad they could put it away!

Congratulation Cyclones.

Game 6 tonight (7:30pm - $10 tix)!!!

I'll be there, with a few friends, cheering the Cyclones on to the Kelly Cup Championship.

I was there as well, the place was packed.

It was an amazing atmosphere last night...what a great game.  I bet you see a significant up-tick in season ticket sales for next season (bold prediction, I know).

I was there too! We came in after the 1st period ended so we got stuck with the nose bleed seats. It still wasn't bad though i'm just glad I got to see them win the Kelly Cup.

I'm happiest for the heckler from hell. He's been with this team forever. I remember seeing him when I was a kid going to 'clones games.

I am glad to see pro hockey doing good this year in Cincinnati.  The local media attention for the Cyclones has been embarrassing.

2nd that!

Imagine the attention they would have received if they were 23-71 vs 71-23. They set numerous franchise & league records.

It's Cyclones day in Cincinnati

It's Cincinnati Cyclones Championship Day in Cincinnati.  Mayor Mark Mallory this afternoon presented a proclamation to coach Chuck Weber, who said he and the team were proud to represent Cincinnati during their travels throughout the United States and Canada.

The team won the Kelly Cup last week for the first time ever. The mayor said "it has been awhile since we've had a major championship in Cincinnati. You have provided us with that opportunity."

Cincinnati Cyclones sign radio deal with MAX FM

The Cincinnati Cyclones have reached a radio broadcast agreement for the upcoming hockey season calling for radio station WOXY/WAOL, known as MAX FM (97.7 and 99.5) to broadcast 30 of the team’s regular season games in the 2008-09 campaign.

MAX FM will broadcast all but six of the defending ECHL champions’ 36 road games this season.  It will also air any playoff games.  Cyclones Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting John Hamel will handle the play-by-play for the broadcasts.  The remaining games will be broadcast online at www.cycloneshockey.com.

Anyone going to the season opener against those losers from Dayton on October 25th?

Anyone going to the season opener against those losers from Dayton on October 25th?

One of my friends sat behind the visitor's penalty box and heckled the Dayton players saying "that 45 minute bus ride home is going to be the longest trip of your life"

I'm gonna do my best to make it on the 25th. I cant wait to see them raise the championship banners!

The Cyclones lost their first game of the season to Wheeling 7-5. I've gotta go to the "bye bye Bush" promotion on November 4th. I'm sure it will be interesting.

What's this 'bye-bye bush'?

I was wondering the same thing, but couldn't find any information on the Cyclones' website.

On another note, I'll probably be going to their home opener on the 25th.

I don't know what it is either. I'm assuming it has to do with the election but they may surprise everyone. I'll be going to the home opener also. Speaking of which I wonder if i should go ahead and buy tickets?

Cyclones work to make sure fans’ interest doesn’t cool

Cyclones Coach Chuck Weber, left, and General Manager Kristin Ropp have worked to keep fan excitement high since the team clinched the Kelly Cup last season.  Fresh off a Kelly Cup-winning league championship season, the Cincinnati Cyclones are capitalizing with more season-ticket sales and corporate sponsorships.

The minor league hockey team, about to open the home portion of its schedule Oct. 25, has boosted season-ticket sales by 61 percent over last year’s opening, said Kristin Ropp, general manager of the Cyclones and U.S. Bank Arena, its home. Sponsorships have risen by 15 percent from their elevated level at the end of last season.

Last year’s ECHL title run had a lot to do with it.  The team is building off the momentum of last season, when attendance jumped down the stretch of the regular season and a crowd of nearly 13,000 packed U.S. Bank Arena for the title-clinching game.

I've already got plans to go to the Friday game. I'm just a little curious as to why the Enquirer isn't covering the Cyclones a little better.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones (41-26-5) of the ECHL will take on the Elmira Jackals (39-26-7) in the North Division Finals, beginning Friday night (April 24) at U.S. Bank Arena.
