Posted April 23, 200619 yr welcome to the usa side of " los dos laredos." for a border town laredo is a nice 'lil town (pop 200k) that is 90% hispanic. it is a major border crossing, in fact mexico earns more tax money here than anywhere else. also, the economy is diversified so it stays fairly healthy, if on the low end. it was founded in 1755 by spanish "empressario" don tomas sanchez. he named it "villa de san augustin de laredo" in honor of his sponsor jose de escandon, who's hometown was laredo, spain. so, most interesting that it was founded in a rather american entreprenuerial style, without military or missionary aid. the historic square area is truly quite charming, the rest of downtown is mostly the usual cut-rate border shopping. the historic posada hotel on the square was the best place in town and amazing, five star service for one star prices. so if yr ever in laredo, texas...heh! easter day procession from the church my fav, i love those majestic texas oak trees some more shots away from the square & around town the biggest building is a nice old one huge, massive & butt ugly bus station the other tall one in town is an apt building sad these groovy and grand old deco movie theaters so often fall to ruin a little more from around town near the border crossing a final laredo meal of menudo & fajitas at the taco palenque mini-chain http://www.tacopalenque.com/home.htm ***time to saddle-up pardners, i hope you enjoyed laredo, one of america's most historic towns***
April 23, 200619 yr I prefer Elyria. ;) laredo is like 4 or 5 times the size of elyria, so to keep a more level field of sarcasm maybe dayton?
April 23, 200619 yr ^nor a level comparison. ok it looks like miami has it over the bulls. nice close game tho.
April 23, 200619 yr ^nah, I'm not really comparing facts and figures kind of stuff here, I'm just not a fan of that kind of architecture for the most part, I just said Elyria because it was you.
April 23, 200619 yr I've been through here before, but didn't have enough time to do it justice. For all purposes it's a Mexican town and it was hot as hell when I was there. At least we have some trees.
April 23, 200619 yr ^you got it. it was over 100 degrees when i was there. i dk how they handle that all the time.
