Posted April 24, 200619 yr I thought id post some photos of a trip i went on to the NYC a few months back. View from up in the clouds View from ESB Street scene Nice interior and at 10:15pm there was no wait in line garbage on the street interactive garbage in a gallery Macy's The mornings were so pleasant! -gasp- Pedestrians! The most intimidating thing i've encountered in recent memery is a 10 car subway train barrelling on in. puts the rapid to SHAME I like it when i come back to the surface and see pretty people view from the Savoy hotel in Chelsea yes of course i got in trouble for taking this photo lovelyness sardined in in chinatown i saw these giant spiders encased in some kind of glass for sale. hah TRLness There was a nice row of these oldies another ummm nice view from my hotel its free so we went cultured dogs so the REAL reason i was there was to check out an amazing pool designed by James Turrell (perhaps you seen the write up in the PD a bit ago??) at Richard Baker's estate in conneticut with a class im in at CIA. quite an amazing space and a privilege to be invited to. heres a few shots of that. and dont forget beyonce...
April 24, 200619 yr Nice shots! The view from the ESB really is breathtaking, I need to get back up there. The view from the plane is pretty sweet too.
April 24, 200619 yr wow that pool is amazing! am i jealous. i've seen other shots of it before in art forum or something. it looks like a wild modern take-off on dan flavin's light sculptures. looks like you had fun. i think nighttime is the best time to go up on the esb. also, fyi -- the grand block-long mega-building you liked down w23rd from your hotel is called the london terrace. it's fantastic.
April 24, 200619 yr ESB interior - cool. I'll take all the NYC shots you ever care to post. Thank you!!
April 24, 200619 yr And as the NY Times reminded us yesterday with an extensive "City" section devoted to the subject, this coming week marks the 75th birthday of said Empire State Building!: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/23/nyregion/thecity/23nabe.html?_r=1&oref=slogin http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
April 26, 200619 yr I too love the picture from the plane......I think I see Cincy in that photo...its in the bottom left (you can see the entire city)
April 27, 200619 yr wow that pool is amazing! am i jealous. i've seen other shots of it before in art forum or something. it looks like a wild modern take-off on dan flavin's light sculptures. i would say its one of those "you have to be there" type installations because even these photos dont completely explain what its like and after swimming in it, its quite the unsafe pool as well. Since its a dimly lit room with a floor thats flush with the surface of the water... not to mention all the strange illusions the light does with it.
April 27, 200619 yr like fashion, sometimes we need to suffer for art! heh. my ex-clev artist pal in brooklyn is gonna flip when he hears about this -- thx. ps- did you get to the biggie gallerys in chelsea on 24th st? ie., gagosian, mary boone, etc? i'd rec those above all for anyone visiting the chelsea art gallery neighborhoods.
