September 26, 200915 yr I checked out the library on the afternoon of Sept 12th before the USC game that evening. I was impressed. Looked fantastic to me.
September 27, 200915 yr It really is astonishing. You just have to see it in person. The top floor with the views, the foreign languages etched into the elevators, the modern furniture, glass everywhere, no expense was spared.
September 27, 200915 yr OSU put together this video to highlight the renovation: http://www.osu.edu/features/2009/library/
November 8, 200915 yr AIA Columbus 2009 Design Awards Each year, the Columbus Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognizes outstanding design capabilities of local architects with their annual Honor Awards program. The OSU Main Library renovation received a merit award. Merit Award Architect: Acock Associates Architecture Project Name: Thompson Library Owner: The Ohio State University After a 27-month renovation, the $108 million William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library totals 306,000 gross square feet, with 91,000 square feet of addition and 215,000 square feet of renovation and restoration. Challenges included merging construction and additions from 1913 to the present and blending building styles and materials that supported images of a traditional library into an active, technological and collaborative information destination. The library’s front was restored, while a discordant, dysfunctional 1977 addition on the west was removed and transformed in a second main entrance with a new western identity. The library’s collection is now prominently displayed through use of transparency and openness. Two sky-lit atria welcome daylight into the center of the building. Seating increased from 850 to 1,800. From http://www.aiacolumbus.org/component/content/article/113-designawards
January 8, 201015 yr I'm not sure that is a hard competition to win. UC and UT are weak (though Blegen cou'da been a contender) and the rest are in a similar weak boat.
January 8, 201015 yr ^^Miami's is nice, but not even close to the league of Ohio State. This makes since of course, since OSU is by far Ohio's largest University.
January 8, 201015 yr A few pics I posted in this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,21036.0.html

January 17, 201015 yr As an alum, made a pilgrimage to OSU on Friday -- almost college-aged daughter in two -- to see the Thompson Library renovation/expansion first-hand. I took some pics; clearly not as nice a day as Ink had, but did the best I could. Of course, I avoided looking at the former Lord and Brown Hall sites.
