Aged depot not worth cost to restore, Bedford to hear

Bedford - An old train depot in downtown Bedford where Abraham Lincoln waved to well-wishers en route to his first inauguration is a part of history, but the building does not have enough original parts to justify saving it, City Manager Robert Reid Jr. says.

Reid will recommend that City Council demolish a city-owned former Cleveland & Pittsburgh Railroad station built in 1852 and redevelop the site, perhaps as a shop or pond and skating rink.

Damn shame....anyone got any photos of this depot?

Here's the former Wheeling & Lake Erie Depot, which will remain....

  • 1 year later...

Bedford's Cleveland & Pittsburgh RR (later absorbed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, once one of the nation's largest companies and called the standard railroad of the world) depot's demolition left just one Pennsylvania RR train station still standing in Greater Cleveland.

Until now....

Demolition began today (Aug. 14) of the Harvard station, at Broadway and Harvard avenues. Word is, the depot will be completely razed by the end of the week. The current owner of the depot, Norfolk Southern Corp., supposedly tried to find someone to buy the structure but to no avail.

Some railroad afficianados are trying to contact the demolition contractor to see if any contents or structural parts (ie: ornate conopy overhangs) can be saved and preserved.

Shame!

Anyone have pictures of this one?  I thought this was gone a long time ago.  I've seen phots of it, but I would have tried to go see it if were still around.  Damn.

Seems like this thread should be in Architecture/Preservation

Boo. Now it will never be seen or heard from again...
