It's sad that New York is no longer the epicenter of exciting architecture like this. It may be whacked out, but it is exciting and will no doubt stimulate others to push the envelope. May 5, 200619 yr This would work well with the rest of Dubai's starchitecture style bldgs. I do not feel that these bldgs work with the urban context what so ever, but it seems that the eastern nations just seem to love them. Good luck to them, but I would prefer a bldg that works contextually anyday over these monstrocities.
May 6, 200619 yr I think that it could be made to meet the street well, although it is hard to tell if it will from the rendering. I could see something like this built in Cleveland on East 9th, spanning East 9th St., and built on the tracks on either side as a gateway to the city from the lake.
May 8, 200619 yr i dunno but what i do like is the light rail over a canal looking structure. very cool. we need one of those in ohio.
May 8, 200619 yr a nice interactive map of dubai and these waterfront developments can be found right here, clik on developments: http://www.thepalm.ae/
May 9, 200619 yr dubai's architecture never fails to amaze me. Seriously, in about 5-10 years I simply cannot avoid visiting the the city. Its almost like a "modern-er" version of la defense, IMO one of the great collections of modern architecture.
May 10, 200619 yr ^otoh and on the other side of paris --- it may end up more like eurodisney "welcome to trumpworld, burj dubai is the next stop" - heh!
May 25, 200619 yr I think this building looks awesome and I can't wait to see it when it is finished. There seem to be a lot of skyscrapers being built this way in the east, in a somewhat arc like form. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this in Columbus.
May 25, 200619 yr Trump is supposed to be so rich but I can't imagine how much debt he pays off on these large projects when they're constructed. He must have some remarkable risk management skills.
May 25, 200619 yr Trump is supposed to be so rich but I can't imagine how much debt he pays off on these large projects when they're constructed. He must have some remarkable risk management skills. Hasn't he declared bancruptcy multiple times in his life before? I was thinking about this thread earlier today because of the design of this building. I was thinking that it would be really cool to see these buildings form like a modern day Stone Henge <sorry if I totally butchured the spelling but I have never acctually spelled it before>. Of course, when I get to thinking about such things, i think about doing it in Columbus. I think it would be cool, if possible, to commemerate Columbus's bicentenial by building two of these kinds of skyscrapers on oposit ends of a staight long road and this road would be in line with the possition of the sun on the day that columbus was founded. At sunset or sunrise, on the day of Columbus' creation, it the sun would set down the middle of the building. Just a random thought.
May 25, 200619 yr Trump is around the 75th richest person in the United States, with approximately 2.7 billion. The King of Saudi Arabia has around 25 billion, the King of Dubai has around 19 billion and the president of Dubai has around 14 billion. Bill Gates and Paul Allen together have around 80 billion and the Walton family (Sam's 4 kids split the fortune evenly) has 60 billion, so put Microsoft and Wal-Mart's owners together and they have more wealth than these clowns over the Middle East. Say what you want about Walmart and Microsoft, at least the people who have gotten richest off of their stock haven't gone around squandering it to the degree they could have. Someone like Paris Hilton has a fraction of the money these people have. And there are at least 100 people around the world with more money than Trump. Look at the list in Forbes, you have never heard of most of them, and incredibly the inventor of Beanie Babies is in the top 10, with something like $14 billion.
May 25, 200619 yr Warren Buffet has like 40 something billion yet he pays himself a salary of 100,000. He lives in a shitty little house. He said most of his money will be donated to charity when he dies.
