There's a Fresh Market just across Montgomery Road, but there's also one just down the street from the Whole Foods in Rookwood too, so maybe that's no big deal.

Kind of surprised that Tri county has stayed open this long, but I’m guessing a lot of people from West Chester shop at that one. I could see them closing that one eventually and maybe moving it up around Liberty Center.

High-end appliance distributor moving to Kenwood Collection

kenwoodcolletionprep*750xx4468-2519-0-0.

A distributor of high-end kitchen appliances is moving into the last available space in Kenwood Collection.

Tisdel Distributing, which has been located in Mason since 2000, is separating its showroom and office operations from its warehouse and moving to the space formerly occupied by Crunch Fitness at Kenwood Collection.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

Hmm that's interesting.  The main showroom was remodeled in 2014-2015, and the kitchen vignettes were refreshed and changed out in 2016-2017 (I did a fair bit of the design and construction documentation work on that part).  They must be getting a ton of pushback against their remote Mason location if they're moving so soon after such major work.  Granted, they can take a lot of the cabinets and other installs with them to the new location, but it's not a trivial amount of work to fit it in and rearrange everything.  The article says they're moving the distribution center too, so maybe that forced their hand, and I'm curious what prompted that.   Whatever the reason, there'd be little point in maintaining the showroom and pretty standard office space attached to a big empty warehouse.

Didn't something similar happen with another business a few years ago? I seem to remember some big home decor showroom that popped up along I-71 near Kings Island, and within a few years it closed citing the difficulty of being in such a remote location. Over and over, we see retailers overestimating the spending power of Cincinnati's far-north suburbs.

^That's because some of these people that make location decisions don't understand the subtleties of the income and population numbers provided by the property owner or the county. Especially in a modern context rather than a '60s one where you think the world will beat a path to your door due to your better mousetrap.

I don't think they expected to get a lot of business from the immediate area.  It's convenient for the warehousing and distributing operations, and I guess there's an argument that it makes it more convenient for clients from Columbus or Dayton (think IKEA).  Still, the disadvantage is that it is also very inconvenient for the local city crowd.  Downtown to Mason is a miserable trip anywhere near rush hour, and it's not really good for lunch presentations either since it takes so long to get there and back even with no traffic.  So I think it's more that they underestimated the inconvenience of the location for their local clients and specifiers, who as @GCrites80s said, are not going to go super out of the way for something like this.

Marsh Building Products decoupled their showroom from their Loveland warehouse very quickly and moved it to Montgomery, which is also now moving a little closer to Kenwood, while the warehouse remains out in Loveland.  I think it's also the case that they want to be closer to their core clients in Indian Hill, Madeira, Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout, and Montgomery.  They get more value out of the showroom for those folks, and their architects, than they do from having their operations all under one roof out on the exurban fringe near the builders/developers throwing up tract houses who aren't using Marvin Windows or Wolf/Sub-Zero appliances anyway.

Saks is finally closing their doors downtown. Not surprised at all by this as basically the only thing that was keeping them open was the city forking out money to them. I don’t see them opening anywhere else in the Cincinnati area. Only options would really be either Kenwood or Liberty Center.

Yeah I’m Surprised they held in there as long as they did. That store is so outdated. In regards to a possible new location Kenwood is the only option, no way on Liberty Center. Cincinnati’s Kenwood Nordstrom is really strong from what I’ve heard. They may have a lease agreement that doesn’t allow a Saks style competitor in the mall, I’ve seen those kinds of leases before. Anyway 3CDC could put/build something really interesting on that corner.

The Dillard's at Kenwood really should be the Saks.

They need to tear down the old tri-level McAlpins. It's an old relic that smells like mold constantly. It's a real shame to lose this Saks going to be difficult to redevelop since the Hyatt Ballroom is above the store

Yeah, not surprising at all. Frankly, I think it'll be good for that corner of downtown to repurpose the (overly large) Saks site to something else. Since the property is owned by the City, it seems like it'll be easy to leverage the space (either through renovation, or teardown and rebuild) into the broader "Convention District" in a way that makes the whole area more successful and activated.

And perhaps this is is naively optimistic, but with Saks gone, I'm hoping to see the Carew Tower retail scene get reinvigorated. After the Saks ashes settle, I'd love to see a few smaller, more nimble retailers find a foothole to serve the downtown market.

Gucci opening first Cincinnati store at Kenwood Towne Centre

Bass Pro Shops starts permit process for long-planned West Chester location

Nearly 10 years after the land was purchased, Bass Pro Shops is pulling the permits to begin work on a new location in West Chester Township.

The retailer submitted development plans to the township in September, which show plans to build a more than 123,000-square-foot store. The building would include 100,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 20,000 square feet set aside for a restaurant.

Bass Pro Shops is still in the permitting process, said Barbara Wilson, West Chester Township public information and engagement director. Though it's still early, Wilson said many of the plans remain the same from when the retailer intended to begin work on a store in the mid 2010s.

Kenwood does big numbers and this Rookwood Store is probably going to do very well with that location being close to perfect in my opinion, it gives Hyde Park-Oakley-Downtown etc Macys shoppers a small outpost to hit up without having to go out to the mall itself every time especially for small purchases/returns and online pickups similar to the Kenwood/Rookwood Nordstrom- Nordstrom Rack setup . Liberty may get one of these stores eventually MAYBE but this article hints at something I said a few months or so ago on this site that Cincy Metro (and other mid size cities) is probably going to only have 1 full scale Macys (Kenwood) in the coming years.

“Macy’s Inc. is seeking a buyer for its two stores at Florence Mall, an indication that both could be among the 150 stores it plans to close in the next three years.”

Macy's files permits to open new store in Norwood

After years of closing Cincinnati-area department stores, Macy's Inc. is opening a new local location.

According to an official with the Norwood Building Department and permits filed in Hamilton County, a Macy’s is heading to the former Bed Bath & Beyond space in Rookwood Commons, at 2719 Edmondson Road.

This will likely not be a typical Macy’s, which usually land in spaces up to 200,000 square feet. Instead, the location fits the bill for the company’s expansion into smaller-format stores, which are roughly one-fifth the size. The former Bed Bath & Beyond at Rookwood is roughly 33,325 square feet.
