Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

Edit: I added this one: Clifton/W117 vs. Larchmere Neighborhood

A few are silly, but it's all a little fun for us Clevelander's!

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east) --- CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, love the mansions on Fairmount, Coventry, and Cedar-Fairmount neighborhood

Westlake vs. Eastlake - WESTLAKE - as yuppy as it is, some beautiful modern mansions on the far western side of the city.

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights - SHAKER HEIGHTS - rapid transit, all of the mid-rise apartments, and Larchmere is so close.

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now) - WEST BOULEVARD because it runs into Edgewater and is a lot safer than E. Blvd.

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east) - CROCKER PARK because Legacy Village is sorta boring.

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments) - LAKE AVENUE because Winton Place is a beauty!

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats - WEST BANK because of Stonebridge.

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy - OHIO CITY + TREMONT since I love Lincoln Park and all of Tremont.

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors) - MAYFIELD ROAD since it has more independent stores than on Lorain

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls) - BEACHWOOD PLACE because it's chic.

Lorain County vs. Lake County - LAKE COUNTY for Mentor, Willoughby, and Fairport.

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square - SHAKER SQUARE, since this was a no-brainer.

I-71 vs. I-271 - I-271 because I-271 has express lanes and no jam ups ever!

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach" - MENTOR because it's clean.

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee - CEDAR-LEE because of the movie theatre and countless eateries.

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry - COVENTRY since its so developed.

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl - BRATENAHL because they are absolutely some of the best architectural pieces in NE Ohio.

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

-I admire Lakewood's lakefront aspect and accessibilty/convenience

-I admire Cleveland Height's architecture and commercial districts

Westlake vs. Eastlake

-Never been to Eastlake

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

-Shaker Heights is more impressive to drive through

-Rocky River is more liveable in my opinion (safer, better schools, lower taxes, more recreation, perhaps more walkable/dense/mixed-use oriented)

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

-Don't really have an opinion

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

-Crocker Park, because even though it is faux it isn't as Disney and actually includes residences and parking garages. It is a better neighborhood fit for Westlake than Legacy is for Lyndhurst.

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

-Lake Avenue, because of Edgewater State Park nearby.

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

-West Bank, because there is more happening there with entertainment and housing.

Pluse the skyline views are incredible.

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

-I wouldn't quite phrase the comparison this way.

-I would prefer a Downtown + Ohio City-Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

-in which case I would prefer Downtown + Ohio City-Tremont

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

-Lorain Avenue

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

-Beachwood (unfair comparison). Southpark isn't really that upscale

Lorain County vs. Lake County

-Lorain County

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

-Shaker Square

I-71 vs. I-271

-Neither, I-90 west of Cleveland is the only way to travel via interstate

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

-Huntington has the skyline views and nicer neighborhood

-Mentor has the better beach

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

-Cedar-Lee, but that will change in the next decade

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

-Madison Avenue in Lakewood is a better comparison, but still prefer Coventry

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

-Been through Bratenahl, but not very much.

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

-I like both. But I give the slight edge to lakewood due to its access to the lake, more convienient to get around in.

Westlake vs. Eastlake

-westlake. Eastlake is more like parma

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

-Shaker Heights. Its the best heights, I like the "garden movement" city feel and the rail lines.

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

-No opinion

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

-crocker park. Legacy village feels like a pricey strip mall

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

-Gold cost, it has better views and is in a generaly better city.

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

-old school east bank and maybe future wolstien east bank. West side in the current.

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

-Ohio City/tremont. Im just not very big on museums and itallian food.

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

-I dont shop at either. Ill say mayfield because its closer to me.

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

-Beachwood

Lorain County vs. Lake County

-Lake

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

-Shaker

I-71 vs. I-271

-271 pavement madness

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

-Headlands, but I dont go there. I perfer the smaller more well kept one in fairport.

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

-Cedar-lee

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

-Coventry

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

-bratenahl

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

Lakewood for sure. I love the density.

Westlake vs. Eastlake

Westlake has better shopping.

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

Shaker Heights. I'm not a fan of RR.

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

East Boulevard scares me, so West.

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

Crocker Park. Legacy Village is fine if you're looking for fine linens and nice rugs, but Crocker Park is a much better "neighborhood".

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

Gold Coast. It just sounds sexier.

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

Eh.

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

University Circle/Little Italy. It just seems a little more cultured.

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

Mayfield.

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

Beachwood has better stores, but I have to represent for Southpark cuz I work there. But Beachwood is really trashy on the inside, I don't like how closed in and dark it is.

Lorain County vs. Lake County

Lorain County! It's so trashy and hillbilly, and... I live there (in the little square part that sticks into Cuyahoga County)

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

Shaker Square, even though I do love my Kamm's Corner, especially Common Grounds coffee.

I-71 vs. I-271

71, baby.

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

Bay Village, for sure.

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

Cedar-Lee.

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

Coventry. It's more compact.

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

-Bratenahl.

Lakewood (west) vs. u]b]Cleveland Heights [/b] [/u][ (east)

Westlake vs. Eastlake NEITHER

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east) Neither, both out of truman show, but if had to pick Legacy, b/c you may see some diversity.

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors) eeek

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)(with reservations)

Lorain County vs. Lake County

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

I-71 vs. I-271

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl (N/A as I have not seen them)

Edit: I added this one: Clifton/W117 vs. Larchmere Neighborhood A real tie!!!!

interesting for self analysis, Other than lovin' the near westside (O.city, Tremont, Clifton) to most, I seem to prefer the eastside

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

Cleveland Heights, nice mix of garden suburb, dense housing, and 60's sprawl type housing in the far north.

Westlake vs. Eastlake

Westlake

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

Shaker Hights

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

East Boulevard, nice housing

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

Legacy Village, its an inverted suburban shopping mall and knows it and doesn't try too hard to be urban by adding homes and offices in a downtown-like setting.

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

Gold Coast

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

West bank (for now)

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

UC and Little Italy, c'mon

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

Both are about equal

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

Beachwood, (Is there REALLY any comparison)

Lorain County vs. Lake County

Lake County

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

Shaker square wins by a long shot

I-71 vs. I-271

I-271 lots of diversified developments

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

Headlands, largest Beach in Ohio.

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

Only been to Cedar-Lee, so won't judge

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

Coventry, just wish the strip was longer

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

Bratenahl, its like a mini Beverly Hills at times

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

I'll have to call this one a coin toss.  While Cleveland Heights has Fairmount and its environs, Lakewood has Clifton Park and other lakefront neighborhoods.  Lakewood also has pretty awesome density around the Gold Coast.  The one things that may swing it for Cleveland Heights is the fact that their commercial districts are split up into 5 or 6 manageable areas as opposed to the 3 mile long stretches in Lakewood such as Madison and Detroit.  It makes it easier to make each commercial district in CH have a good sense of place, while in Lakewood it becomes difficult to accomplish such a thing since it becomes hard to break up such long stretches into memorable areas such as Cedar-Fairmount and Coventry.

Westlake vs. Eastlake

I'll second Peabody99 and say neither.

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

While Rocky River is a nice semi-walkable suburb that has maintained its cache quite well there is almost no contest.  Shaker Heights is simply one of those places in Cleveland (and Ohio for that matter) that has a great 'wow' factor.  While Streets like Avalon, Beachcliff and Frazier are incredible they're put to shame by streets in Shaker such as Parkland, South Park, Shaker (the homes coupled with the rail line) and Van Aken (the density and the rail line).

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

This is another that seems to be almost a toss up.  Both have the large setbacks and nice homes, but I think that East Boulevard has more potential (in terms of rising values) with all of the job growth at various University Circle institutions over coming years.

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

I guess I'll take Crocker as it is both mixed-use and is able to function as a stand alone retailing area.  Not that Legacy is bad, but minus Beachwood it would be a little lacking in terms of tenant diversity.

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

Gold Coast

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

West Bank as of the present.  The score may even up in the next few years.

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

Ohio City and Tremont

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

I'll go with Mayfield, only because of certain sections that run through Cleveland Heights.  Once it gets past Warrensville it's just as unappealing as Lorain.

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

Beachwood Place

Lorain County vs. Lake County

Lake County

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

Shaker Square, but like the Rocky River one its an uphill battle for Kamms.  I do have to say with some appropriate infill and maybe a transit oriented overlay Kamms could be really nice stretch.

I-71 vs. I-271

I-271

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

I'll go with Mentor Headlands.

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

Cedar-Lee in the present day, but I'd go the other way if this was 5 years into the future (assuming everything continues on track).

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

Coventry

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

Bratenahl

Clifton/W117 vs. Larchmere Neighborhood

Larchemere

All in all my answers tended to go East over West.  I'll say though that the playing field seems to be leveling off somewhat, mostly due to the revitalization of the near west side.

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

Cleveland Heights!!

Westlake vs. Eastlake

this is like asking me what I like better: trash or garbage

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

Kinston Indians vs. Cleveland Indians

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

tough one--the connection to Edgewater edges out EB.

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

Crocker Park--at least it feels like a neighborhood and has good public spaces.

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

another great mismatch: Gold Coast all the way!! This place provides the best views of the city and the lake.  A real treat if you haven't sat out on a terrace and watched July 4th fireworks or a thunderstorm rolling in off the lake.

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

Stonebridge!!

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

ooh, this tugs at my heart strings..  And we have co-winners!!

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

-Lorain

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

-at least I feel like there is still some old money around this city when I go to Beachwood.  Southpark is as suburban and and Nashville as they come.

Lorain County vs. Lake County

-where??

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

-are you kidding?

I-71 vs. I-271

-express lanes make you feel like you're in (fill in chic city)!  ;)

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

-Cedar Lee for the time being..

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

-coventry by a landslide

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

Lake Avenue-- more accessible and integrated into the neighborhod

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

Cleveland Hts.  - Great hoods, beautiful homes, ethnically and raciallly diverse and they have the sexiest male cops.

Westlake vs. Eastlake

New white trash vs. white trash

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

Shaker by a landslide!

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

Both are beautiful, however, EB has more to gain with all of the development in the UC area

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

two wanna be downtowns in the burbs.  BOTH SUCK!

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

Lake Ave.  Very dense - with a big city feel in the inner burbs

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

West bank at the moment as its currently turing into a great neighborhood with its on unique appeal

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

UC/LI because of the area and it is connected to other diverse hood (shaker sq, cedar-fairmont)

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

ewww

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

Beachwood by a landslide, its Ohio's best attempt at a 5 star mall!

Lorain County vs. Lake County

Who cares....without Cuyahoga County neither of these matters!

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

Da Square - Because I live there!

I-71 vs. I-271

I havnt been on 271 in years...so I cant comment

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

Mentor Headlands - Cleveland's "fire island"

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

Cedar-Lee - Better brand recognition

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

Coventry - the neighborhood the continually reinvents itself

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

Bratenahl - It Beverly Hills/the Hamptons/Star Island on Lake Erie

Edit: I added this one: Clifton/W117 vs. Larchmere Neighborhood

Larchmere - food, folks and great antiques!

Lakewood (west) vs. Cleveland Heights (east)

Lakewood, because I freakin' live there!

Westlake vs. Eastlake

I don't understand this comparison. Now if this was Westlake vs Solon or Sheffield Lake vs. Eastlake, then it would be a tougher call. Otherwise, Westlake is far superior to Eastlake, whose only claims to fame are ice jams on the Chagrin River and the CEI power plant.

Rocky River vs. Shaker Heights

Hands down it's Shaker Heights. One of the best-planned cities in the U.S., with cool rail lines, lakes, mansions and so on. Though RR has some cool lakefront parks and Clifton Cove is about as Sausalito as you can get in Ohio.

West Boulevard vs. East Boulevard (both historic districts now)

West Blvd., because it is safer.

Crocker Park (west) vs. Legacy Village (east)

Cracker Park, only because I've never been to Legacy Village!

Lake Avenue (Gold Coast) vs. Lakeshore Avenue (both lined with highrise apartments)

Gold Coast! Because I live one block south of it and, from my seventh-floor party room, you can see the whole string of Gold Coast high rises spread out in front of you. It's an awesome view at night.

West bank of the flats vs. East bank of the flats

West Bank, but I'm anxious to see how Wolstein and Shaia are going to transform the East Bank (which has a rail line).

Ohio City + Tremont vs. University Circle + Little Italy

I really like Ohio City+Tremont, but I find University Circle+Little Italy to be one of those areas that makes Cleveland unique and special among other cities in the U.S.

Lorain Avenue vs. Mayfield Road (as main shopping corridors)

I actually like Mayfield through South Euclid and into Lyndhurst, and not because I grew up there. It has some of the last vestiges of pre-sprawl development along it (though so does Lorain through Fairview Park, but not as much as Mayfield).

Southpark Mall vs. Beachwood Place (upscale malls)

I've been to Southpark once and Beachwood Place not since the 1980s so I can't say I remember much from either.

Lorain County vs. Lake County

You've got hillbillies without hills in Lorain and religious cliques (remember the Lundgrens?) in Lake. I like downtown Lorain and Elyria, but I also really enjoy downtown Willoughby and Painesville. Lack of snow gives the edge to Lorain.

Kamms Corners vs. Shaker Square

Shaker Square is one of the best urban places in Ohio, and one of the top 50 in the U.S. IMHO.

I-71 vs. I-271

I-71 was kinda neat before the mulitple-arched bridge for Ridge Road was replaced by ODOT Standard Bridge Design No. 3. Plus, you get to race Rapids and freight trains on I-71. I go with I-71.

Bay Village's "Huntington Beach" Vs. Mentor-On-The-Lake's "Mentor Headlands Beach"

I like Huntington Beach because it has a better view of downtown.

Gordon Square vs. Cedar-Lee

Cedar-Lee does it for me, but Gordon Square is coming up fast.

Detroit Avenue (in Lakewood) Vs. Coventry

These are very different. Detroit Avenue in Lakewood is much longer, with very different districts along it, including the high-rise office and residential buildings downtown. But Coventry has more intensity packed into its little counter-culture corner of CH.

The mansions on Lake Avenue vs. The mansions in Bratenahl

Most of the really beautiful mansions on Lake Avenue were torn for the Gold Coast high rises in the 1960s. But then, in Bratenahl, you can't see many of the mansions anyway since they're so shrouded by vegetation. Toss-up.

Clifton/W117 vs. Larchmere Neighborhood

I think Larchmere edges out my Clifton/West117, but not by much.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
