Posted May 4, 200619 yr I tend to think the king of all uncanny skyscraper resemblences is between Minneapolis and Toledo. These buildings are EXACT clones of one another: 100 Washington Square, Minneapolis Disalle Government Center, Toledo The pics are from emporis.
May 4, 200619 yr good idea for a thread. well,as for your town of toledo there is a clone of portside in lexington, ky. i think there were a couple more in other cities too, not sure. it was an eighties thing. as for nineties things, there is an exact clone of cleveland's lakefront science center in new jersey. also, the columbus germain ampitheatre in has a clone in indy and i think denver.
May 5, 200619 yr How about Cleveland's Key Tower (1991) and Charlotte's Bank of America Tower (1992), both designed by Cesar Pelli. (ours is taller...nyah nyah!) Cleveland: Charlotte: (via SkyScraperCity)
May 11, 200619 yr i rememmber there being one in toledo and one in dayton that i think are the exact same building....its the building in dayton that used to be where 5/3 was located...the tan and pink looking one....One dayton centre?
May 12, 200619 yr The Westin on Peachtree street in Atlanta is almost a carbon copy of the Marriott at the Ren Cen in Detroit. Same architect. I don't know about anything in Ohio though...I'm sure there's a lot that look similar.
May 12, 200619 yr ^if you've seen one portman, you've seen them all. (don't think he has any works in ohio......notable ones that is....)
May 12, 200619 yr ^You're not alone...I too enjoy the Key tower in Cleveland over the Charlotte version. Not just because of my Ohio bias and my true dislike for Charlotte, but because Key tower has an older more NYC style to it. Much more urban/gritty than the glitzy suburban style version in Charlotte.
May 12, 200619 yr It turns out the buildings in Minneapolis and Toledo were desinged by the same architect who built the World Trade Center in NYC (Minoru Yamasaki & Associates). He also made a stainless steel version of the same tower in Richmond. It's the city's third tallest building, and you can really see the resemblence to both WTC and the Government Tower in T-Town: yamasaki strikes again in detroit:
May 12, 200619 yr sorry, I fixed the links in my original posts. It turns out the buildings in Minneapolis and Toledo were desinged by the same architect who built the World Trade Center in NYC (Minoru Yamasaki & Associates). He also made a stainless steel version of the same tower in Richmond. It's the city's third tallest building, and you can really see the resemblence to both WTC and the Government Tower in T-Town: What's crazy is that the Disalle Tower in Toledo is the fourth tallest building in the city. In Minneapolis, it's the 25th tallest building. Kind of gives you an idea how impressive the Minneapolis skyline is becoming... wow, great find cd. that resemblance to the wtc is really freaking me out.
