Have you called the other as suggested. I sounds as like you just want to complain without doing anything else out of the box. Instead of saying, "i'll leave" you don't use all the resources available but find time to bitch! ugh!!
October 24, 200717 yr i have done everything, when the police come right up to you and say they will not respond to the things i stated its a little sad i mean there is no one who will do anyhting about anyhting in this city. i have tried everything the city just keeps getting worse and worse that why i am leaving.
October 25, 200717 yr and when you leave..attend a community college for remedial English (sorry..was rude to say, but the tone just set me off)
October 25, 200717 yr i have done everything, when the police come right up to you and say they will not respond to the things i stated its a little sad i mean there is no one who will do anyhting about anyhting in this city. i have tried everything the city just keeps getting worse and worse that why i am leaving. Let me get this Are you telling us that you called your city councilperson and he/she said, "I can't help you". You called the mayor's office and they said, "I can't help you". You've networked with neighboring businesses and they said, "I can't help you". Is that what you're saying? What exactly is your business? If this city is "so bad" why did you come here to urbanohio? The people here about improving our city and its neighborhoods NOT abandoning the city. So apparently you haven't tried "everything".
October 25, 200717 yr Have you talked to Midtown Development Corp? That is your community development corp, and they may be an avenue for assistance. btw, I did walk along Prospect from Ontario to the Innerbelt, I found 40 graffiti tags. I am going to send an e-mail tomorrow to the DCA, Councilman Cimperman, The Mayor's Action Hotline, and another address set up called "City of Choice", which looks like it is part of the Mayor's office as well. The Graffiti Removal Dept does not have e-mail, so I will have to copy them by fax.
October 28, 200717 yr And leaving solves what? The blight will chase you to the next ring of suburbs. And the next... Have neighboring businesses encountered the same problems as you? If so, band together, get with your Midtown CDC, organize a meeting with the district's command staff or even hire an off-duty cop or security guard during the hours your businesses get targeted. You apparently came to this website because you care about the city and maybe even want to cause change. Running from problems will cause change -- for the worse. October 28, 200717 yr thats the thing i'm not going to hire someone and waste my money when i can just move and not worry about this much crime, i wish the city would improve but its time to leave
October 28, 200717 yr I think we are too quick to tell business owners and residents that do not have the level of passion for Cleveland that we do to not let the door hit them in the ass on the way out. It is not as if we are so inundated with people wanting to live and do biz in Cleveland than we can do that. Even though no body here wants to hear someone is fed up and wanting to leave, you may have come to the right place if you really do want to work it out. If you just want to trash Cleveland than there are multitude of other venues (and don't let the door hit you in the ...) While I am grateful I have had mixed fortune in the city, I have heard your type of story echoed by many of the Cleveland businesses I support...I think some good suggestions have been made. I know police response is not always what it should be. I am not sure dispatch is the best venue for this complaint unless you are witnessing the actual act. There may be a community quality of life liaison that could assist. I also agree you should start documenting who you called and when and what they said. Better yet in writing. I would out do nothings on this very board, and as diplomatically as possible in other public venues. Many politicans only assist if the silver lining is that they benefit their image as a result. We have our very own little media whores darlings around here. Work it to your advantage. Save your comments people, it is true. All city council members and many other departments have email. As X and KJP mentioned, there probably is some kind of neighborhood organization in your part of town, where residents and businesses can meet and get together and support one another. I am sorry to hear your experience has been so poor, and best of luck with resolution
October 28, 200717 yr The thing that has us baffled on this board is that if you are sure it is time to leave, then what are you trying to gain here?

October 28, 200717 yr Wait a sec. You posted in earlier threads that you work "on Prospect at East 36th" for "your employer." How can you move a business you don't own? Furthermore, I realize the place where you work has encountered a break-in. But it seems like you're posting more about graffiti. I realize graffiti is a crime, but have you been to cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, etc etc that Cleveland often look up to? Have you been to these cities lately? Every flat surface in those cities, notably outside the downtown areas, has been painted by taggers. It's just as bad if not worse in Europe's major cities -- which we often cite as models for wonderful land use planning and architectural design. But the graffiti is unreal. I don't mean to make light of your concerns, but Cleveland's graffiti is like it's traffic. It's annoying, but not smothering like in many other major cities. Let me close with an observation. I've noticed a great deal of impatience in your past posts. So I suspect you may not be tolerant enough for city living or even working in the city. Thus I will conclude by wishing you luck in your future endeavors, which probably should be the in the suburbs or, better yet, in the countryside where you won't have to be around other people. Take care. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
October 29, 200717 yr yes i have been to new york city, chicago, and Boston. the problem is Cleveland is not a major city those cities are 20 times the size of Cleveland, the crime is less in those cities than in Cleveland. its simple math. also i do have an employer and i do own a business. and i am tolerant of cities but when u call and nothing happens you get just alittle ticked off.
October 29, 200717 yr Can I reiterate the question I asked a few posts up? It's meant as a serious question. Do you want help, advice, sympathy? Idle complaining meets with alot of skepticism here. Most of us have put in our time on boards like cleveland.com where everyone just angrily posts about how horrible Cleveland is. Most of us don't agree, and that attitude grates on us. So if you've got a point to this, please get to it.
October 29, 200717 yr Here is some "simple math", Cleveland is a major city: Cleveland City 478,000 Boston City 590,000 Boston's population is not 9.5 million people (twenty times larger).
October 29, 200717 yr To the 'Cleveland' poster: I had a bad grafitti problem that was QUICKLY taken care of once I contacted the correct people within the city. Regardless, you might be moving your business out of the city, out of fear, but I did just the opposite. I moved into MidTown because I fear the suburbs. And whoever you sell your property to, will be moving into a real business district, raw and real.
November 15, 200717 yr I feel sorry for the kid, but man what a stupid reason and way to get killed. I also love the term "graffiti artist" used in this context. Graffiti artist killed by rapid train Posted by Donna J. Miller November 15, 2007 11:46AM Categories: Top Story RTA police say the 19-year-old man who was hit and killed by an RTA train in Lakewood last night was a graffiti artist who had been walking the tracks with two others. Criminal charges are pending against the survivors, RTA spokesman Chad Self said this morning. The dead man was Christopher Eishamy, the coroner's office said. Eishamy's address of record was in Bethpage, N.Y. but he lived on Halstead Avenue in Lakewood. The trio were near Lakewood Heights Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Wednesday when the teen was hit. Passengers on the train were shuttled from the scene. Train travel in both directions was delayed by 35 to 40 minutes, affecting riders leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers game at The Q. The game ended about 9:50 p.m. East- and westbound passengers were shuttled between the West 117th Street station and the West Park rapid station.
May 9, 201213 yr Just to elaborate my stance from the OC thread: I in no way talked about not being sensative to broken windows or spray painted businesses, i deal with the same headaches as a homeowner in the are. That wasnt the topic at hand. The topic at hand was a tagged bus stop and litter. While i dont like either of those things, it will not ruin my time in Ohio City, nor does it really piss me off. Vandalizing and ruining someone's business pisses me off. Littering is laziness and is bad for the earth, but i doubt it will end in the near future. For those who want a perfect looking Charlotte or Nashville, its just a different type of city, IMO.
