Does anyone know anything about this?

From the Flats Oxbow Association's newsletter:

Design Review Meeting:  4/18/06

The Design Review Committee moved to support the architectural design concepts presented for the Burning River Lofts (name may change) project with the understanding that the applicant work with City of Cleveland staff and Towpath Trail sponsors to further study the site issues as they relate to the proposed Towpath Trail route and refine the development scheme accordingly.

Could they be Ferchill's project along the river? I thought he was doing townhomes though.

^it is Ferchill's project.  But that name is dead.  They did a survey, and half the people liked it, the half that didn't like it really didn't like it, so they are going to call it something else.

Thank God for that. Burning River recalls a time in Cleveland history most of us who lived through it would like to forget!

yes there are many other interesting names out there that do not involve environmental disaster. Do I see  name calling contest??? I saw that as well in the minutes, and thought a name like that could only be the brainchild of someone who does not have much sincere affection for the river. On the other hand, GLBC's Burning River red works for me, also since they are a of sponsor the enviromental awareness festival, Burning River Fest.

I understand the need to reappropriate the term "burning river" as a way of exorcising our demons, but I think that's better done through festivals and microbrews than housing developments.

To this day, I don't get why we're so notorious for the Cuyahoga River burning. Dozens of rivers around the world were burning at that time. Why did we become the poster child?

I think it would be cool if they used this name and made it the most environmentally friendly building in the region. It would kind of show that we are making up for our past mistakes.

Actually I think the name is hot!  no pun intended.  Its could be a way to say, we made a mistake once, but look how far we came.  Being upset about this now.....says were stuck with an inferiority complex!

The building could be an environmently friendly green building have the developer market it as a model for all green building world wide.  It's all about PR....most people believe what the brand makes them see/read or hear...

I do this all day......I make people believe that CNN is the most trusted name in news...when the truth is TIME Magazine the most trusted.    8-)

Well, naming issues aside, this is exciting...keep us posted when you hear more!

They should call it Floating Bloated Fishcorpse River Lofts.

see now don't make me open a can of whoop a*& on you. That's our river your talkin' about! CMHA has already taken some cool, but predictable names, i.e  River View, Lake View,  and there a nursing home is named City View . I like the name of the Irish Bend townhouses, maybe they can do something on that historical theme or towpath theme. Didnt mules pull the boats? Maybe "Asses Landing"? A joke of of course. Maybe something minimalist. Just the "Flats" a play on  flats being in the Flats. Ugh I know that one is bad too.
"Asses Landing"

LMAO!!

"Asses Landing"

LMAO!!

yes asses landing has historical context  -- it used to smell like ass around there. mules? i dk about mules, but i was thinking of factories, trucks the river and stale beer.

the Towpath Townhomes??

OK now we are on the right track.  On the Erie Canal running through Dc area, mules (technecally not asses, but close)pulled the boats, hence my equine theme. The towpath would definitely be an amenity, I would focus on that in naming.

copyright that name, wimwar!
