April 30, 200817 yr I have no idea, but my profile clearly details who I am. http://www.blogger.com/profile/14272257274373604807
May 2, 200817 yr Winter-quarter radio rankings Here is Arbitron's winter quarter radio station ranking by audience share for listeners ages 12 and older: 1. WLW-AM, 10.4 2. WRRM-FM, 6.3 3. WGRR-FM, 6.0 4. WUBE-FM, 5.8 5. WIZF-FM, 5.6 6. WKRC-FM, 5.3 7. WKFS-FM, 5.1 8. WEBN-FM, 3.8 9. WMOJ-FM, 3.6 10. (tie) WOFX-FM, WKRQ-FM, 3.5 Arbitron's quarterly ratings Thursday brought two big surprises - record high WLW-AM (700) ratings for Eddie Fingers and Tracy Jones' new show on weekday afternoons, and devastating low ratings for sister WEBN-FM (102.7), Fingers' former station. "We're through the roof. Who could have imagined this?" says Fingers, 50, who was paired with Jones to replace local radio superstar Gary Burbank in January. Their afternoon show drew a higher audience share than Burbank did for the past 21/2 years. They drew 70,000 new listeners to WLW-AM, which has been No. 1 in the quarterly ratings for eight years, says Darryl Parks, AM operations director for Clear Channel Cincinnati, parent of WLW and WEBN. But the celebrating at Clear Channel's Kenwood studios and offices was tempered by the worst ratings in 10 years for WEBN-FM, the legendary rock station. WEBN-FM, which has won five consecutive Rock Station of the Year awards from trade magazine Radio & Records, dropped to No. 8 among all stations, losing 34 percent of its audience from the fall. Fingers' old "Dawn Patrol" - which had been in the top three with young adults for years - plummeted to No. 7. Tom Gamble and Richard Skinner, the "Two Angry Guys" morning show on 96.5 ROCK, came in third, behind the WIZF-FM (101.1) and WKFS-FM (KISS 107.1) morning shows. Already, Fingers' replacement is gone from the "Dawn Patrol." Jason "Shroom" Schumm went to the 7-11 p.m. shift three weeks ago, with Dave Fritz moving to mornings. Faced with new competition from WFTK-FM (96.5 ROCK), WEBN-FM fell to No. 4 with young listeners (ages 18-34) and No. 7 with the demographic (ages 25-54) sought by most advertisers. WFTK-FM changed its format to 96.5 ROCK on Dec. 14. Only the "Two Angry Guys" remained from the old "SupertalkFM" format. The audience is up 253 percent over the talk format in winter quarter last year, says T.J. Holland, operations director for Cumulus' WFTK-FM, WRRM-FM (WARM98.5) and WGRR-FM (103.5). "We're off to a great start. We have the No. 1 rock morning show with the 'Two Angry Guys,' " Holland says. Adult contemporary WARM98.5 and WGRR-FM finished second and third with listeners overall. WARM98 was second to WLW-AM with listeners 25-54, followed by Bonneville's country music WUBE-FM (105.1) and WGRR-FM.
May 2, 200817 yr Well they could start by dropping all the ridiculous nu-metal crap they've been playing since the late 90's. An hour of WEBN illustrates just what aboninations the record companies are and big rock radio stations will fall along with the companies that keep producing this rubbish and pressing it upon us. Any and all good rock music being produced today has zero chance of getting on the radio.
May 2, 200817 yr I listened to WEBN growing up, but have officially taken it off my radio presets. The past couple of years have really worn on me, and I just couldn't deal with it anymore.
July 21, 200816 yr Really?!?! Just look at my signature line. We're going to put this guy on the air in Cincy too? Clear Channel Radio to broadcast Hannity show on talk stations http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/07/21/daily5.html
July 21, 200816 yr Seriously Hannity is on 550 WKRC from 3-6PM. Consider this the end of WLW as a Cincinnati station. While WLW is already conservative, at least it has always been local.
July 21, 200816 yr Clearchannel was forced to sell some of their stations in cincinnati, I think WKRC was one of them. When acquired by Jacor/Clearchannel/whomever, they choose to put Limbaugh on WKRC and keep WLW all local. Don't know what will happen now.
July 23, 200816 yr Listening to Scott Sloan on wlw this morning and he was having callers talking about Downtown. While his show wasn't negative (he talked about how he was glad downtown is doing well) he said, and his callers agreed, that downtown needs to have incentive to go downtown. There needs to be things downtown that you can't get in the 'burbs driving down Tylersville Rd; things aside from the museums that would draw you downtown regularly.
July 23, 200816 yr It is nice to hear something on there that isn't blatantly ignorant and negative. I guess it gets to the point where you can no longer lie to your listeners. The progress downtown is indisputable and un-ignorable.
July 23, 200816 yr Expanded shopping options would be a key attraction that would compliment the already stellar lineup of restaurants, theatres, and bars. Some new/unique options like H&M, Joseph Beth Booksellers, and others would be key draws. A Joseph Beth Downtown could become the new point for major book signings and what not. Stores like H&M would be new/unique for the region and also fit well with the urban landscape. A streetcar connecting unique chains in the CBD to unique local stores in OTR would be icing on the cake.
July 23, 200816 yr I love H&M. I've only been to the one in NY though. A Joseph-Beth would awesome. My girlfriend being the book nut she is would be dragging ME downtown instead of it being the other way around!
July 23, 200816 yr H&M would be fantastic. If Philly can support two in Center City, Cincy should be able to keep one going - may have to be near to UC though, because they seem to be near Urban Outfitter's. Anyway, Joe-Beth has shrunk quite a bit. It is so hard to have a profitable bookstore these days and if it had any selection it would probably cannibalize the Norwood location.
January 27, 200916 yr I was listening to 700wlw today on my way to UC and Bill C was talking to Marty Brenneman about the Red's Caravan tour thing. Anyway, Bill was talking about the City needing a winner and "with the Bengals being horrible and UC BBall being horrible and UK Bball being horrible and the Banks going down the Crapper now..." I royally pissed me off that he made that comment. I just needed to vent.

What an a-hole.
January 27, 200916 yr He said no one pays attention to XU basketball.. even though they are doing well. *sigh* Cunningham bugs me more and more.
January 27, 200916 yr In his defense, as I was also listening, his point is that this city should be going nuts over Xavier right now, and frankly they are not.
January 27, 200916 yr There is really no defending Cunningham, he is a buffoon no matter how you slice it.
January 28, 200916 yr In his defense, as I was also listening, his point is that this city should be going nuts over Xavier right now, and frankly they are not. That makes a little more sense. I thought Cunningham was a Xavier fan.
January 28, 200916 yr If that's the case, then I respectfully rescind my last comment. I still, however, totally disagree with his stance on the Streetcar project and find his largely negative attitude toward the city disappointing.
January 28, 200916 yr If that's the case, then I respectfully rescind my last comment. I still, however, totally disagree with his stance on the Streetcar project and find his largely negative attitude toward the city disappointing. It's all fake ... He likes the city and hopes the Banks and Streetcar goes through. Cunningham is just a wanna-be Limbaugh. It's all for ratings. The listeners are robots, therefore they can't read in between the lines.

The listeners are robots, therefore they can't read in between the lines. Exactly. Even in his interview in Cincinnati Gentleman (which is a great publication by the way), he said it's all his radio personality. He is a brilliant entertainer in that regard. He knows how to push peoples' buttons. I agree with about 40% of what he says, but I find him hilarious/sick/twisted/intelligent. He does love the city and wants it to succeed.
January 28, 200916 yr In his defense, as I was also listening, his point is that this city should be going nuts over Xavier right now, and frankly they are not. Cunningham usually tells it like it is and hits the nail on the head. As for the statement about the Banks, who knows what he was thinking. There aren't many outlets in this city that ever say anything positive about it, other than this forum. There marketing seems flawed, to me. They need to put on a campaign to show the public the right information, rather than what the mainstream media in this town decide to say that day. And as for Xavier, he's right again. No one cares. There are many, many more UC fans in Cincinnati that couldn't ever possibly find a reason to root for XU no matter who they were playing (me, for example). People take their sports seriously.
January 28, 200916 yr ^^I'd argue that Cunningham is a big part of the problem regarding public perception of the city and city projects. If that really is "just his on air persona", that's even worse. I'd be happier if he actually disliked the city and the projects that we are hoping will push it to the next level. At least that would be genuine. Thinking one thing and using your platform to say another, knowing the whole while that you are influencial to many of your listeners... that's just wrong.
January 29, 200916 yr ^^I'd argue that Cunningham is a big part of the problem regarding public perception of the city and city projects. The zombies who listen to Bill Cunningham and take him seriously don't live or have fun in the inner city anyway. They never will. They're paranoid schizoids. They think Cincinnati is unsafe in 2008-9, try living in London in the 17th or 18th century. You couldn't even walk outside after dark without getting stabbed. Your chances of being physically attacked were extremely, extremely high. People didn't go out at night unless they could afford a carriage. We're relatively very safe compared to our forefathers. We're also much more sensitive to what causes harm.
January 29, 200916 yr Exactly - I actually think he is a little more intelligent than the arguments he makes on radio, but the fact is many of his listeners take this seriously. And much of this is broadcast to many other parts of the country, and many people outside the area think he is being serious. To think his view does not color the opinions of many suburbanites is naive. His on air persona of a race-baiting, bible-thumping, xenophobic, homophobic, ultra-conservative ideologue does the city no favors. ^^I'd argue that Cunningham is a big part of the problem regarding public perception of the city and city projects. I think you're undermining the intelligence of city dwellers. People don't have a personal relationship with Bill Cunningham. The only people he sways are people who already have prejudices, fear of the city, and small town conservative views. People use him to validate the ideology they have already formed. Or they're just being entertained. I think the guy is hilarious. I love watching anything controversial. I love watching Ann Coulter as well. She's very witty. It's just entertainment. Comic relief is good.
March 9, 200916 yr I got a chuckle out of this one! Perhaps even people across the nation are tired of the rediculous, negative, finatic right wing CRAP that comes across the airwaves anymore. I'll admit that I quit listening to them around December with no desire to go back. They might want to rethink their "It's only Entertainment" ideology!!!! No Longer As Big: WLW Radio Loses Satellite Status Reported by: Lance Barry Email: [email protected] Last Update: 11:51 am http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/No-Longer-As-Big-WLW-Radio-Loses-Satellite-Status/LegDRM-FLEy6MCfnyiq8Hw.cspx (Andy Lyons/Getty Images) The Cincinnati-based radio station known as the Big One, is no longer as big, as 700 WLW is not on XM radio anymore. The station's Web site does not give any further details on why they are no longer on XM other than to say that it is "due to circumstances beyond our control." Click on link for more information.
March 9, 200916 yr ^ Or the fact that Satellite radio is about to go belly up. Last I heard they had hired a bankruptcy consultant. The only reason most people have satellite radio is that it came equipped in their cars with a year or two free (payed for by the auto company of course). Now that car sales are down, plus no one is renewing their subscriptions after their trials, satellite radio is dying. I wouldn't be surprised if it's gone before the end of the year. I'm betting 700WLW leaving because of "circumstances beyond their control" has something to do with the financial troubles of XM, not the popularity of WLW. Sorry to burst your bubble! 700WLW is very popular, very entertaining, and probably the most powerful media source in Cincinnati. The people posting in this thread are the minority, by far. Hell, I'm in New York City right now, at work, and am actually listening to WLW. The noon National Anthem is one of my daily highlights.
March 9, 200916 yr Let's look at the 700/550 AM talent line up Bill Cunningham- white middle aged male Jim Scott- white middle aged male Eddie Fingers- white middle aged male Tracy Jones- white middle aged male Scott Sloan- white approaching middle aged male Mike McConnell- white middle aged male Paul Daugherty- white middle aged male Steve Sommers- white middle aged male Darryl Parks- white middle aged male Gary Burbank- white middle aged male Bubba Bo- white middle aged male Alan Cutler- white middle aged male Seg Dennison- white middle aged male Rich Walburg- white middle aged male Gary Jeff Walker- white middle aged male Lance McAlister- white middle aged male Mo Egger- white approaching middle aged male Gary Sullivan- white middle aged male Ron Wilson- white middle aged male now that's some diversity
March 9, 200916 yr It's pretty sad when you can predict what these guys are going to say about a particular subject (sometimes word for word), even though you yourself may not agree with that.

March 9, 200916 yr I actually happen to like a lot of the programs and radio personalities on WLW. I never really tune to 550 unless WLW is on a commercial. As far as streetcars/downtown goes...Scott Sloan is definitely the most open minded about the subject. Cunningham rags on the streetcars quite often. After hearing him rant one day about them calling them the "Streetcars named desire," I sent him an email, not expecting a response. The next day he replied back to me in a very professional manner. I had sent him a link to the Cincy Streetcar blog and while I failed to change his opinion, he was at least open to reading about the streetcars and thanked me for sending him the information.

Satellite radio is fine, especially with XM and Series merging. It is almost impossible now to purchase a head unit without Sat. inputs. What probably happened, was that folks started threatening XM because of 700's stance on certain issues. Of the people that voice their opinion, I'd bet it's the folks against 700 more than the other way around.
March 9, 200916 yr No, that is where you are wrong. It was a clear channel decision, not XM/Sirius. Believe me, there are more people out there agreeing with the WLW stance than not!

March 9, 200916 yr Let's not forget about "Sensible Don," he's on w/ Burbank on Saturday mornings I believe. Nothing like having the token Black guy, who by-the-way they have to refer to as "sensible" as opposed to the rest of the African American community.... Don't want to offend the target demographic.... :|
