So what.  So he made fun of some stereotypes.  I think he just peeved of the whiteys by saying they can't jump.  I'm sure elldubya is just as he says it is.  They suck.  Next issue.

WLW has used fake callers for as long as I can remember, and they have made everyone look stupid, not just democrats.

I'm loving this gossip behind the scenes.

The fake callers, what they really think of each other, etc.  Always knew Nick from Loveland was a "liberal plant" they put on the air to make democrats sound stupid.

Actually it's my understanding that ClearChannel uses (hires) fake callers for most of their big talk radio stations in cities across the country.  Sometimes they do this and don't even tell the talk show hosts about it.

That makes sense from an entertainment and ratings standpoint.  Its one of those things we all knew was true deep down but its good to hear confirmation.

Any political talk radio, aside from community radio, is propaganda.  It's incredibly effective for two reasons: first, it gives the appearance of audience feedback, when really there's no way to beat a host, and second, the audience hears the same messages pounded day after day, year after year.

"By the way, undercover brothers is one of my favorite movies. I own it" - Deters

That cracked me up.  Such a sh*&^% movie.  That quote is pretty disturbing in itself but what's even more disturbing is that he owns it...What's next?  Gigli? Final Destination 4?

Probably an act, but I turned on 700 coming home today and heard Scott Sloan complaining about a 17 dollar parking ticket that 700wlw won't reimburse.  Then him and Tracy walked off air with screaming from the producer - something about 'firing'. Then they cut to commercials for a good 5-6 minutes before Mo Egger and some other guy came on.

They didn't know what to say or do.  Then there was another 5 minutes or so of commercials.  Now its just Mo and this guy having no clue what to do

My guess is its an act to get ratings and it really shows how low this station has gotten.  Don't know why anyone takes their opinion seriously on any city issues

Yeah that's an act.  I heard a little bit of it when I came out of the barber shop this afternoon.

Again, they have been doing it for years, so-called suspensions while the host was actually on vacation. Its AM radio.  They need something for entertainment value.  Don't take it so seriously.

Funny, how everyone hates it, but they listen anyway.

It's all fun and games until the day comes that your favorite radio personality actually gets fired and you don't realize it till a couple days later.

Agreed. I find it bizarre that you guys listen to that crap. Y'all must be masochists.

He is a lifelong Democrat who only turned Tea Party several months *after* getting his radio gig.

This "eric deters is a lifelong democrat" rumor is really damaging to democrats.  Eric Deters was the Chairman of the local GOP-  he was a strong republican for years until he lost a primary in 2002 and changed to the democratic party to beat his former primary opponent- yet now because of rumors spread on here and also written on national blogs like DailyKos people think this is some  lifelong racist kentucky democrat.  ERIC DETERS IS A REALLY A REPUBLICAN.

They're taking a cue from the WWF's Attitude era of the late '90s/early 2000s when Stone Cold and Vince McMahon were always at each others throats. Boss vs. employee drama often does well. That was the WWF's highest rated era since the late '80s.

Or how Howard Stern's ratings would go through the roof when he would argue with his boss Pig Vomit.

On another note, I was driving yesterday morning and Darryl Parks subject was the Spence.  The amount of ignorance and missed facts was infuriating.  Did anybody know that the Spence was originally a single-deck and the top deck was added later?

OMG.

I believe that the Brent Spence Bridge has always been a double-deck bridge since it opened in 1968.  However, each deck originally only had three lanes with shoulders, and in 1986, the lane configuration was changed to accomodate 4 lanes.

Of course, "Darryl Parks" and "facts" are words that don't go too well together...

Thus why B105 draws more listeners now a days!

The bridge opened in November 1963.  It was always double-decked.  It originally had three lanes on each deck with emergency shoulders.  The emergency shoulders were eliminated in the mid-80's to create four lanes.  It was built from the beginning with the expectation for this conversion, as can be seen on old photographs.  It has always been the case that merges near the bridge created lanes on the bridge.  If these merges were eliminated, through traffic would travel much less chaotically on the bridge.

Bah!  I meant to say 1963 myself, how'd I type '68?

^^And that is the namesake standing there on his bridge.

BTW, I knew it has always been double-decked which is why I was aghast when I heard him say it over 50kw with conviction.

Eric Deters now saying another 700wlw personality will be fired and on his show tomorrow morning

  • 1 month later...

I don't know much about this guy other than what I read on here, but he sounds like a real class act.

He's lucky he wasn't disbarred.  I'm sure he will be, though, within five years.

Look at him grovel like Starscream does when Megatron has his cannon pointed at him.

Wow.  He's on his honeymoon right now and gets to come home to this!

Doc landed in Detroit:

Doc Thompson Joins Talk Radio’s 1270 WXYT-AM As New Afternoon Host

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (WWJ) Talk radio veteran Doc Thompson joins 1270 WXYT-AM, weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., starting Monday, March 12, 2012. Thompson relocated from Cincinnati to Detroit and, along with morning host Charlie Langton, adds local flavor to the popular talk station.

Thompson replaces Todd Schnitt, whose tremendously popular syndicated show will move to evenings, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Detroit has history of great radio and I’m very excited to be part of it,” said Thompson, who grew up east of Cleveland and clearly remembers his mom listening to Detroit radio in the car. “We are living in stressful times and the news can be pretty depressing. I offer a unique and compelling viewpoint with lots of humor and fun.”

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

>I offer a unique and compelling viewpoint with lots of humor and fun.”

No, his stated opinions are totally cliche and anti-intellectual, with a nasty know-it-all personality.

Detroit has already finished the anti-urban job, so he'll fit in great.

I was looking up Paul Daugherty on youtube and saw this -- Doc Thompson hung up on him, then gets scolded by Cunningham.

I mean, this guy had major, major psychological issues.

well, he's also promoting the Republican candidate for sheriff, too.....

For someone like Cunningham to be this positive about OTR,  it's just incredible. This could really spur a major shift in perception among his suburban audience who, like him, have been out of touch for years.

That's assuming he keeps it up.

A transcription of the audio can be found here:

I noted that Sean Donovan is the Republican candidate for sheriff. Donovan lives downtown, owns a business downtown, supports the streetcar and has a lot of support among urbanites. He held a fundraiser in OTR last week. I'm not plugging him or his candidacy but it's interesting to know that he's not your typical Hamilton County Republican.

I wonder if Donovan is mostly to thank for Cunningham's recent conversion and 3-minute evangelism.

So 700wlw has bashed OTR relentlessly and called it unsafe on every show today after the drive by this weekend.

Yet they fail to realize that Fairfield Ohio, yes Fairfield, has more murders than OTR this year.  Where is their sweeping generalization that Fairfield is unsafe?

Smitherman was just on, not the Reds like I was expecting.  He was doing his normal thing. It is really sad to hear him and think that people actually voted for him.  He doesn't seem to like being in Cincinnati, maybe he should try somewhere else for awhile.

Might as well add Verona, Ky to that as well.

The new 700wlw news commercial now states (paraphrasing) "from the massive rash of gang violence downtown to Cincinnati city councils new Green energy iniative that will limit how many times you can use your lawn mower in your yard, in other words it's the news that effects you"

Oh yeah, those promo pieces are incredible.  It's one thing after another, none of it accurate.

It sounds like WLW is playing to its base.  Tell the people what they think they already know.  It will help endear the scared little sheep to their loud-mouthed shepherd.  WLW is so much like WJR in my home state.  It was once a great station for the everyman: rich, poor, sportsfan, news-junkie, etc.  Sure there were opinions but none of them shrill or overpowered by those who didn't tow the "company line."  Now they have both become cess-pools of conservative talk.  I am not likening my conservative friends to "cess" but I am making a statement of the state of talk radio in America.  Sad.

A friend of mine who listens to Rush (not the band, unfortunately) recently asked me, rhetorically, why liberal talk radio can't make a go of it in this country and I replied that liberals have better things to do than to sit around and listen to people reinforce what we believe (says the liberal posting on the internet at 11pm).  I really believe that to be true, though.  I formed my own opinions and beliefs and don't need some radio blowhard to help me feel better about those opinions.

^ The promos have always just been joke pieces.  I personally like the "Real Tri-State Heroes" ones they have (link).  They blow things out of proportion on purpose, and I don't think anyone takes them seriously.

I'd like to think no one does but I've seen evidence to the contrary...
