These aren't obviously parodies.  I wish we had recordings of them, they generally have to do with:

1. somebody about to molest or kidnapp your kid

2. school board conspiring to brainwash you kid

3. somebody scamming you out of something related to your home (insurance, repairs, etc.)

4. price gouging (esp gas prices)

5. local government doing something communist

It's "the news that affects you".  And by you they mean you dumbass.

Just heard PG Sittenfeld on Cunningham's show about an hour ago.

There was some positive discussion about downtown, the riverfton, the banks, and Washington Park - no mention of OTR by name but oh well.

The positivity went south fast though with Willie berating Mahogany's and betting they'll be "belly up" in a year.

Shocking.  After months of 700wlw, Chris Smitherman, Chris Finney, Scott Sloan, Dan Carroll and the rest railing on Cincinnati for 'chasing Chiquita away with high taxes' and specifically saying it was the streetcar, this report comes out completely coming to the opposite conclusion

"Cincinnati the most tax friendly city in the US"

http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2012/09/25/cincinnati-the-most-tax-friendly-city.html

Briefly turned on 700wlw. Guy called into Scott sloans show today about the foxnews suicide video. Said " brat kids need to see this and we need to bring back public hangings"

Riveting conversation on that channel

I'm pretty sure brat kids are seeing all the death they want on the internet. And somehow I get the feeling not that many kids watch Fox News anyway. There's like 600 channels out there. Old media constantly forgets about its sliding relevance.

It seems to me that the FCC could require stations to announce fake callers.  A segment could begin with a disclaimer that says "some callers might be actors".

If his word means anything.....

'Don’t expect to see conservative talk show host Bill Cunningham organizing an Ohio bus tour before election day for Republican nominee Mitt Romney, as he did in 2000 and 2004 for George W. Bush.

“I’m done! I am turned off completely by politics,” he said.'

Man, that roundup's got it all -- Willyboy, Britney Spears, Bristol Palin and B105.

Why tune in if you don't like the programming?

In his early radio days, callers would ask Bill Cunningham "how it was hanging" and about 1/3 of the time he'd reply "...just keeping a low profile".

How has The Overcompensating one done regarding ratings as of late(not counting reds games)?

So Bill Cunningham and PG Sittenfeld got into a little altercation on air today.  They went tit for tat in between Cunningham's love of all things Chris Smitherman

Sometimes I'm sad that I miss this stuff. Other times not. But the stereo at work won't pick up WLW and I'm not going to stream it and have it come through the P.A. I don't want customers to hear it and have it ruin our reputation.

So what was the altercation about?

So what was the altercation about?

About the budget after Cunningham verbally made out with Chris Smitherman.  I caught the end of it.

Cunningham kept yelling about the 'liberal democrats', 'clowns', and the mayor/city manager bankrupting the city before the interview..  PG defended them by saying they were his friends.  Then Cunningham said that PG was all talk and no action.  He kept screaming that.  It seemed to be getting under PG's skin.  Cunningham yelled 'All you do is talk'.  PG responded with "That's you.  You get paid to talk.  That's what you do"  .    PG said something about why Cunningham hasn't retired like he said he would after the Romney fiasco.  PG called him grumpy at one point

Don't think PG will be on that show for awhile

Just listened. Cunningham knows how to run the mic. Sittenfeld is young, inexperienced & has no clue.

As far as Mallory laughing & acting goofy? Why not? It's a comedy show.

Slitherman better keep friends with Cunningham tho if Media Bridges goes - that'll put a hurt on the local king of all media.

Or he might be back more often. Sounds like it would be good for ratings.

I completely disagree with your assessment. Willie sounded shrill and PG sounded calm and reasonable. Then afterwards Willie had nothing but complementary things to say about him.

Sittenfeld was laughing nervously as Cunningham cut him off and yelled at him scoldingly.

Or, Cunningham was repeating the same "scold" over and over, while PG was calmly pointing out how the accusation of inaction was inaccurate. Gotta love how two people can listen to the same thing and have completely different perspectives on how it went down. It might just be my unparalleled annoyance by all things Willie.

Speaking of Cunningham, did Smitherman win back his NAACP President title tonight?

Unbelievable.  There is nothing left of WEBN at this point.  Everyone they have DJ'ing now sounds like they're 19, and no doubt they're paying them minimum wage at best.  More likely they're doing unpaid internships.

No more gold-plated Five Finger Death Punch delivery.

Lets hope 55KRC goes next.  Smitherman and Chabot were the dynamic duo on there today

Wow... The day after he got his wish of an anti-streetcar Cincinnati city government.

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

Seems like I should feel sorry for him but I find it hard to after inadvertently hearing his weekly hate of all things Cincinnati on more than a few occasions.

Didn't they fire Dan Carroll last week as well?

Aw that's too bad...he coached "personalities" to continually tear down the urban core and get the gullible general public to buy into a self-loathing of their own city/downtown.  He was in it for ratings, but I feel no sympathy.  I wonder if he still has that smile on his face.

Never cared for his schtick on the radio.  I feel bad for a person when they lose their job, but I sure as hell won't miss hearing him on the radio.

How do these people change industries?  Who wants a loudmouth know-it-all in their office?

They're in demand as PR people because lots of people know their names and they have good media voices. ODOT PR is a former Channel 4 reporter and SWACO's (Columbus solid waste organization) PR person was a well-known 610 personality previously. And I just found out that the PR person for one of the local school districts is the guy that ran the Marshall U. radio station for like 6 years and was the big man when I had a show on there.

Of course 610, Channel 4 and the Marshall college station never produced the kind of toxic rhetoric that WLW does.

Alot of people may not like him, but Eric Deters may lose his arm because of an infection. I hope they can save it and him a full recovery.

700 WLW still in total meltdown mode.  They're in absolute disbelief and there's a lot of real anger coming from the hosts and the callers.  They're now blaming it on "Obama", that Obama told Sittenfeld to vote for the streetcar.

Will somebody please send a 14 year old in to a store to buy a dirty magazine.  700 needs a new issue.

I'm trying to figure out just what is it about the streetcar that raises so many people's ire so greatly?

My guess is that it's highly visible - to them, a thorn in their side constantly reminding them of defeat.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the 700 WLW crowd aim for another referendum or amendment to the city charter to try to rid the city of the streetcar. Seems they'll fight it to the death. Their unrelenting hostility reminds me of the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

These people are full of anger for a variety of reasons, many of which probably have little or nothing to do with the streetcar itself; it's just that it provides them with an ideal high-visibility, high-profile target at which to vent their rage.

Tom Luken just called in and started digging into...John Cranley.  It was totally surreal.

Another caller speculated that Cranley hates the streetcar so much because he's worried that he won't be tall enough to ride it.

I've been told they plan a different route.  COAST is going to begin a charter amendment for recalls.  then they plan to basically collect signatures to recall everyone they disagree with in special elections that have even smaller turnout.

Sounds about right.  Their egos are shattered.

These callers are a reminder that we need to continually reiterate to people that 700 is nothing but entertainment radio.  Relying on them for factual information for anything, nevertheless something you'll vote on, is the equivalent of doing the same with The Onion.

There was some talk loosely related to the Streetcar, but mostly about 700 WLW so I moved those posts here. Trying to do a better job of cleaning up the streetcar thread in the future.

Cheers!

Cranley bamboozled and hoodwinked the American People into building this boondoggle.
