Tallmadge says woman can't raze 138-year-old home

TALLMADGE - Can city officials forbid a resident from razing a home because the house is 138 years old?

 

That's the question Tallmadge officials are struggling with -- and one that Summit County Common Pleas Court is being asked to weigh in on.

 

For the first time in 15 years, the city is facing a legal challenge to its Design Control District, implemented to preserve colonial buildings and dictate architectural styles of new construction around historic Tallmadge Circle...

Clash over house could go to court

Law director authorized to defend or settle business owner’s zoning appeal

TALLMADGE - At the May 25 meeting, City Council authorized the law director to defend the city against or settle the zoning appeal filed by Linda Lorkowski, owner of a century home in the Design Control District she planned to demolish.

 

Lorkowski said she was hoping to build another facility in its place on Northwest Avenue for her bakery business called “Linda’s Kitchen.”...
