Posted May 21, 200619 yr Sorry for being roughly 40 minutes late 8-). It was a great meet as it always turns out to be, got a little tan line too. These photos arent photoshopped at all, just resized. Thanks again to everyone who attended. :-) Newport, KY Thanks for setting this up before hand Colday. Now we know why Spiderman 3 didnt consider filming here. Just before I took this picture, I asked god to show me a sign.
May 21, 200619 yr Ach, very nice...though I was still there for most of these shots, so my jealousy of The Ones Who Stayed hasn't really been engaged yet - though my envy of your skill and gear sure has!
May 21, 200619 yr very nice job and tour. i loved it. you guys sure got all around town. anyone know what happened re that fire??? :wtf: say, are we 100% sure this the aronoff center??
May 21, 200619 yr ^LOL, indeed...though considering UC's Law School had its graduation at the Aronoff that afternoon, it was important to make if obvious enough that even a lawyer could figure it out...(er...no offense, Kendall, and congratulations!) I put together this little gmap-pedometer thing for the route we took on the downtown/OTR walking tour: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=193586 Starting at Carew, we went up Vine to 6th and had lunch at Rise and Shine Cafe...they thought they had a light afternoon coming up, time to wind down, no other customers in the place, when in walked two dozen forumers all at once! Anyway, after lunch was Main Street all the way to Liberty, to Sycamore to Milton, and then we cut up to Boal in some new park they have there (I'm guessing it's new, but it's at least new to me!). That's where Rich got this phenomenal shot from, combining standard OTR architecture with Music Hall, nestled in among the wooded hills of Ohio and Kentucky - very nicely done, Rich!: Then up Boal of Highland, back to Milton, then down to Liberty, and I'm not all that certain I got all the street crossings exactly right...but down Broadway to 13th to Sycamore to 12th, and we split into groups for the car touring in front of the Sycamore Diner (soon to be Vinyl). The various car groups all mustered at Theodore M. Berry Park, and thence to the car tour - if anyone wants to document the car tour route on gmap-pedometer while you still remember, that would be cool for letting the rest of us know what we missed!
May 21, 200619 yr I read that the fire was started by some welders on the roof. They left not realizing sparks had started a fire. Someone on the roof deck then reported it. Some water damage to units on top floor.
May 21, 200619 yr Great shots! Finally having seen it first-hand, now I understand why the Cincinnati folks are the most prolific posters and most avid boosters on urbanohio.com! It's one fantastic, fascinating, beautiful city with all history, architecture and topography. I just got home a few minutes ago, and the long drive gave time for the effects of walking up and down hills to settle in. I'm a flatlander and not used to that, and when I got out of the truck and stood up, I became aware of a massive case of sore buns! I got to try Graeters Ice Cream, though, so it was worth the pain. :-D
May 21, 200619 yr Rich great photos! It was great to meet new faces and see old ones again. Urban Ohio is getting so big that we even have a resident stalker.
May 22, 200619 yr Rich- nice work! I do envy your equipment. Very nice to meet you! And RiverViewer- holy crap, how the hell did I not know about this gmap pedometer site? Thanks for posting that! I'm going to use it all the time now.
May 22, 200619 yr Nice pictures! And RiverViewer, thanks for the walking map. I was wondering how far we wandered.
May 22, 200619 yr yay! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
