Posted May 25, 200619 yr So we bought a new house and moved in on Monday. It is not exactly Cincinnati proper but it beats being way out in Monroe. Here is a picture: I went to the back yard and this is what I found: I knew we were not exactly "urban" but I didn't expect deer in Kenwood . . er, Sycamore Twp. (Moderators - Feel free to move this to another location; Didn't know where it should go.)
May 25, 200619 yr I live in Clifton, roughly 3 miles from downtown we get deer all the time. I love it
May 25, 200619 yr Nicely done! Yeah, deer are everywhere...hell, I'm in Walnut Hills, close enough to walk to Reds games, and I've had deer in my yard too. Even had a wild turkey cluck its way through the yard, down the driveway, across the street and on down the road!
May 25, 200619 yr Even had a wild turkey cluck its way through the yard, down the driveway, across the street and on down the road! Never seen bottles of Whiskey cluck before (while sober). :-D
May 25, 200619 yr heck - there are coyotes in Spingdale! http://www.wcpo.com/news/2006/local/05/25/coyote.html btw - if that deer is there again tomorrow - IT'S A STATUE! ;) congrats BHG! (now the fun begins)
May 25, 200619 yr Feed the deer and make friends with them, so they'll eat out of your hand. Then, when deer season comes around, you can whack one in the head with a hammer, avoiding firearms violations, and have free venison for winter! :-D
May 25, 200619 yr Nice house! I used to live in DP (Deer Park) Expect that Silver Maple' roots to break into your clay sanitary sewer lateral looking for water...time for roto rooter
May 25, 200619 yr Rob - I don't think I could "whack one in the head with a hammer." You must do things differently up there in Ft. Wayne ;) We have some massive trees and yeah Mr. Sparkle it is only a matter of time :( . . . And the pear in the back is so thick and heavy it is beginning to split. The tree doctor is coming in June. And OTRFan we missed ya at the meet on Saturday.
May 26, 200619 yr I missed going, very disappointed. Hoping for a shot at redemption sometime. Enjoy the new digs - good stuff
May 26, 200619 yr . . . And the pear in the back is so thick and heavy it is beginning to split. The tree doctor is coming in June. Bradford Pear? If they get to a certain size, they are almost certain to break off branches in a storm, even the healthiest trees
June 1, 200619 yr It's a Braddock Pear we were told but it is basically the same so we are thinning it out. I'm surprised branches haven't broken off. When we bought the house we were told the tree has never been pruned and was there before the house so it has been there growing, as it is, since 1949. Oh, and the neighbors told us a whole family of deer live in a the neighborhood. Apparently they like living under and sleeping under a big grove of pine trees a few houses down.
