You really have to wonder why the second floor of this crappy building has razor wire around it!

Another great collection of shots!

Wonderful!

Maybe the razor wire is to protect the meth lab.

cool

That veterans memorial used to have names on metal plaques on it.

Doubtless stolen & sold as scrap to support someones vice.

This Family Dollar is one of the few new developments I have seen in this area in years.

I'm gonna miss that dragon, man :(

dragon?

Pope- There was a giant mural of a dragon downtown covering the whole side of a building and they painted over it.

OTRFan...is...A WHITE MAN!!!!!!!

I remember seeing that building during the meet last Saturday. It's looking very good.

I miss the dragon too.  I miss him so much that I've changed my avatar in his honor.

Another great set of pics, OTRFAN.  Your threads have a lot of soul.

I about fell out of my chair when I read this one.....this is quite an interesting situation

Where is the Mohawk Honor Roll?

(Wonderful thread yet again, as always!  You cracker.)

I'm absolutely dumbfounded by the amount of amazing architecture in OTR and the state of the neighborhood.

For the love of god, let's get it fixed up!

Does anyone remember seeing the plaques on this momument.  It MAY be possible that I recall seeing them maybe around 1990?  What is so telling to me is the 'locality' (must be a better word) of this momument. While I'm sure there are larger Cincinnati wide veterans momuments, it is interesting that this little sub-area of town felt so much community that they created their own tribute to their own boys.  It really is touching to me.  It says so much about how Cincinnati is really a city of little towns.

These monuments are at the intersection of Ravine and McMicken Rds. almost at McMicken.  Mohawk Rd is very near also.

this is on the same site

IMG_3169.jpg

what gets me about this - is I can't figure out a way to get up to the 2nd floor!  maybe it's meant to keep something from ESCAPING !  YIKES

IMG_3157.jpg

Where is that Mohawk memorial actually at?

mohawk.jpg

Cool - thank you!

I've started working (very, very slowly) on a gallery of as many of Cincinnati's War Memorials as possible...actually, this thread discusses the locations of various memorials - maybe you can add to the list!

You're welcome.  There was actually a wreath there this week and someboday keeps it mowed and cleaned up.   There is one on Ezzard Charles about half way between I-75 and Music Hall on the south side. Again, it is dedicated to the fallen from just around the Laurel, Lincoln Park area, it's not even a half mile from the Mohawk one!  There is a Marines Memorial not far from the Lincoln statue in Lytle Park. I have it in my "public art and statuary" thread. Let me know if you need more detail.

I'm not sure of any others in the CBD or OTR at the moment. (of course Memorial Auditorium itself stands as a memorial to veterans, etc.)

  • 3 years later...

Great succession of shots.

IMG_3176.jpg

Very ecclectic set of photos!  I love it!  Thank you :)

The 9th one down, the one with the people painted in the windows...where is that?

Near Bank Street and Central Parkway intersection.
