I took these during the Detroit-Superior Bridge Tour on Saturday 5/27.  It's very interesting seeing the lower level of the bridge.  The next public tour is scheduled for Labor Day weekend - September 2nd, 2006.  I highly recommend it.

Nice pics. Welcome aboard! I especially like the view down on the Goodtime III.

Looks like a little lighter turnout this year for the tour. They need to publicize it better. I received no press release at Sun from the county engineers.

Awesome pics.  Is that a real street car in the tunnel or just a facade?

It was just a facade, but still neat looking either way.  I would say about 100 yards behind that trolley was were they walled the subway system at.   The trolley was also next to an entrance on what is now below Massimo Da Milanoon on W25, there are still doors and stairs there to get to the restaurant.

Some of the subway was underwater (The stairs that led underneath the tracks) Does anyone know why? I asked someone but they gave me a weird answer to another questions.  I was just curious.

In all I thought it was a great tour, everyone there was more than helpful and knowledgeable.  I thought there were a lot more people there than I expected.  I look forward to the labor day tour.

Good pics btw...

Neat photos! From some of the views you posted, it looks like they've opened even more areas for the tour. The areas accessible to visitors keep expanding a little bit each year.

The crossover tunnels under the tracks have been flooded as long as I can remember. I don't know if they have gravity drains that are clogged with debris from all the years that homeless people used to live in the tunnels, or if they were drained by sump pumps that are no longer operable.

The bridge and its subway approaches are a magnificent piece of infrastructure. I hope that the interest continues to grow in reopening them for light rail and/or historic streetcars.

Welcome...thx for posting!  This would be my favorite of the thread and most interesting:

  • 11 years later...

Bumping to find out if anyone knows when the next tours will be or who to contact to find out.

I have not been on the Bridge for probably 4+ years and can never seem to find out when it will be open.

Thanks!
