i think a cup of costa rican or guatemalan is my favorite.

anyone had zimbabwe coffee...that's gotta be some of the strongest stuff i've had

if you were offended by what i said, then you really did spend too much time in st louis

anyways, what are the local coffee shops you are talking about?

I wasn't offended.  I must have missed the previous post that complained about local coffee houses.  Pleasant Perk, Kaldi's, Mt. Lookout Joe, Echo, Highland Coffee House and Sitwell’s are a few decent coffee houses in Cincinnati. UDF isn't even worth a mention.

Yeah, I was bitching about Sitwells.  Not the quality of their coffee, just the surly nature of the owner, and the absurdity of trying to charge me $3.50 for a fill-up of a 20oz mug of regular coffee...

What is that one on Columbia Parkway, maybe Koba Bean or something?  Kona Bean?  Tiny little place, but really nice folks, I try to stop there whenever I can...

Say, who remembers when Sitwells used to be the Cove?

Kona Bean is correct.

Stauf's in Grandview is the place to be... or the Mojoe Lounge in the Short North.

Wow this thread has degenerated.

Sounds like a creepy encounter, MayDay!  Luckily I've never had anything like that occur to me.  Then again, who the hell would wanna stalk me  :-P

On a side note:

When in Rome (in 2002) I sampled some Italian espresso........and damn!  That stuff will wake you up!

Now in a few weeks, I'll get to sample some fresh Kona coffee while in Hawai'i

God I love coffee :)

I do think kona is the best (at least that I have ever had). I know coffee is all up to individual taste....but that stuff is amazing. make sure and try 100% Kona (as opposed to blend, which is awesome too) . I have deep regrets about not bringing any back when I went in 2004. I drank it the whole time there and went through withdrawl when I returned. good news is I am going back in Jan, and I am stocking up this time.

I think its the shock to your system.  there is this 5 min delay.  then  BAM!  I don't think I blink the entire day after drinking that!  What a feeling....ahhhhh

Kona...You've got me salivating!...Coffee and Ice Cream are my vices!!  argh!!

I live for my kawfee!  I bow down to God of Coffee every morning!  ahhhhhhh

Working in PR/Communications and having to be up at ungodly hours or working 30 hour days.....coffee has been a dependable partner, never letting me down!  My assistant has a emergency coffee money!  I even have coffee in my emergency kits, at home and at the office.  During the blackout, I was one cranky bitch! and vowed never to be without my morning cup of coffee.

Coffee for President!!!

Off to starbucks...  :|

^ oh come on mts, you know what you will always and forever come back to.

it's all about the bustelo.

wow mayday sorry to set you off.

i need my morning joe too, so i do feel your rant. hopefully some of all the proposed development gets going soon and some more convenient local coffee retail comes your way.

hmm, that new turkish place on playhouse square? i think that is out of your way too.  :|

a suggestion? bring a french press and a bag of ground beans to work. the french press makes great coffee, but is messy so it will give you an excuse midmorning to get up and stretch to clean it. an officebound friend of mine does that, he says it works for him.

about starbucks, i recently overheard someone say they were "going in to pay for a park bench" or something like that to a friend before they ducked into starbucks. i though that was kinda funny (yes it was two of your people in chelsea-heh!).

...I don't get it...probably will lose the humor when translated, but do you mind spelling it out for me?  Sorry...

Regarding emergency coffee, a French Press is the ideal option, obviously, but I've actually found that, if you need coffee for purely medicinal reasons (avoiding the headache), that the simplest solution (say, for camping) are those coffee tea bag things.  Just need hot water and the tea bag, and while it's not a savory cup of joe, it will keep the jonesing at bay...

^oh sorry it means that in manhattan since there are no street benches around and the culture is to keep you moving constantly people often think of starbucks first as a place to sit down and only secondarily for the coffee.

i have never tried the tea bag coffees, but that might work too depending on how serious mayday's caffiene addiction is.

Si papa...Si!  :cool2:  sipping on a cup of Arabian Mocha Java mixed with Sumatra and a scoop of Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream (in place of cream) .....ahhh...the guilty pleasure!

Thank you!  Actually, that's still a funny comment, even post-translation!
