July 2, 20204 yr If the site plan for 1778 High goes back to Pearl Alley, it'd be fairly easy to build a 7-story without demolition of the historic building. Most of the site is a 2-story modern addition that could be replaced while maintaining and incorporating the original structure just like the modern addition already does. It would be a lot like the Pavey Project in that aspect. Really no reason to tear it down, even with a parking deck if it can be built on the lower floor/s of the main building, but it seems the university area planners are determined to eliminate all buildings built before 2005. July 3, 2020: 15th and High "Building A" I am so satisfied with the street wall this project is creating along this part of High. It's nice particularly because everything on the campus side is set back a considerable amount, so it really helps to hold the street better and make a nice, cohesive corridor. Also the fact that all of this density will allow for a great public plaza that mirrors what is... not one on the campus side at the Wexner, and you have a real improvement to the public sphere (of course the retail tenants, rents, etc. is a whole different conversation, and I am reacting solely to the physical form of this). Also, this new building seems to have a grand double-height space that fronts the street that will be great for events, so that'll be some nice activation as well. July 8, 20204 yr Looks like applications have been filed for the OSU West Ambulatory Facility and it's construction crane. It appears the building will be 168 feet and the crane will be 270 feet. I'm kinda surprised by the height, but I'll take it.

Officially known as the Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP), the facility would have a capacity of 105.5 megawatts, power that would be generated – for the first decade of its operation, at the very least – through the burning of natural gas. The plant is proposed for a piece of OSU-owned land at the northeast corner of Tharp Street and Herrick Drive, across the street from the OSU Veterinary Hospital and directly south of the Department of Food Science and Technology. The building that would hold the facility would be about 60 feet tall, with two cooling towers extending an additional 27 feet above the roof. The site – which currently holds several green houses – was selected for its proximity to both central campus and the proposed west campus “innovation district,” where early plans call for dozens of new mid-rise buildings and apartments for as many as 4,000 residents. The plant would provide electricity and heating to buildings in both areas, utilizing the heat created by the power-producing turbines to make steam (which is in turn used to heat buildings in the winter and to humidify and regulate temperatures in buildings year-round, and for other tasks in labs and medical facilities). July 29, 20204 yr New Indoor Tennis Center (Tues. 7-28-20) Its located just east of the Covelli Center along the extended/realigned Irving Schottenstein Drive Brickwork beginning at the 15th and High "Building A" WOSU Building on 14th
July 29, 20204 yr Building A is going to be a handsome addition. I like the color of brick they're using, too. It compliments the Mershon across the street nicely, and differentiates from the red brick of the Edwards building next door. Also, funny that you just posted these @NorthShore647 because I was just grabbing a shot of the WOSU construction camera - "floating" stairs are in, windows are going in, and the brickwork is going up on there as well. I wonder if they'll go ahead and open 14th when they're substantially finished with this project -- even if future building 'C' (or if the whole block is considered building 'B' now?) is a ways out, there doesn't seem to be a reason to keep the street closed for much longer (though they have had the sidewalk opened there for quite a while since they re-did it).
July 29, 20204 yr It is good to see OSU continue with this construction during this pandemic. I agree about the different colored brick next to the (not so great)Edwards building is a good idea and if it matches the brick on the Mershon brick then good-anything to help tie the two sides of the street together in any way is good. *just an idea...but it would be cool if the could find a way to use arches or something to span High like they do in the Short North that would visually tie the two sides together. Maybe something that could be lighted for games, could (at times)have a special OSU theme, etc. It would not have to be arches just like the ones in the Short North either..maybe something a bit different but still cool? They could even have a basic scarlet and gray color scheme-it is the OSU campus and all... Edited July 29, 20204 yr by Toddguy

Increased revenues and expanded fundraising efforts over the past two decades have allowed the athletic department to launch a variety of multimillion-dollar facilities projects, including the $23 million future home of the Buckeyes tennis teams. That involved a rapid building pace in recent years. Last summer, Ohio State opened the Covelli Center, a 3,700-seat arena for the volleyball and wrestling teams. Six months earlier, it finished the Schumaker Complex, a training center for all Olympic sports athletes. But the looming question is whether the building boom can continue amid the financial challenges confronting college sports due to the coronavirus pandemic. The early signs point to a slowdown in the months ahead. Athletic director Gene Smith said planned projects, including an ice hockey rink and indoor track, have been put on hold. Ground won’t be broken on a $21 million lacrosse stadium until at least late next year, delayed from an earlier target date. “I’m not concerned about it down the road,” Smith said. “It’s easy for me to hit ‘pause’ because we have to focus on the present and deal with the pandemic. But eventually, in one year I don’t know when that is, none of us can predict that we’ll get back to working the plan.”
