Yes, considering the amount of weight they're putting on it as a "gateway" and that it's adjacent to the iconic Wexner Center... It's a disappointing infill building. But the spaces inside are desperately needed by the theater and music departments and the interiors looks pretty timeless even if the exterior is lackluster.
June 4, 20196 yr https://www.buckeyextra.com/sports/20190603/ohio-state--new-covelli-center-thrills-coaches The Covelli Center — the new home for seven Buckeyes varsity sports teams — has officially been opened to coaches, athletes and fans. The 100,000+ square foot facility has a competition area with a capacity of 3,700 - as well as locker rooms, training areas, offices and treatment rooms. It will house Ohio State’s volleyball, gymnastics, fencing and wrestling programs. It can also serve as an occasional venue for women’s basketball and as host site for local tournaments and camps. Built just north of the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, the Covelli Center is the latest facility on Ohio State’s athletic campus located north of Lane Avenue and west of Olentangy River Road. This athletic campus also includes the Schottenstein Center/Value City Arena, the Woody Hayes football practice facility, and stadiums for the baseball and softball teams. Ohio State offered a media tour of the new facility yesterday, although it opened to coaches and student-athletes about two weeks ago:

June 4, 20196 yr An iconic Buckeye gift shop is on the move A prominent Lane Avenue business catering to Ohio State University students is on the move. ... The flyer includes plans, drawn up by architect Berardi + Partners, for a mixed-use redevelopment with ground-floor retail and 20 units on upper floors. Here's how the flyer – which you can view here – touts the building's high-profile location: “Situated between two of the busiest campus intersections of Olentangy River Rd. and N. High St. on W. Lane Ave. just north of campus. High traffic counts & foot/bike traffic offer excellent visibility and connection to OSU’s main campus crowd for any user.” More below: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/06/04/an-iconic-buckeye-gift-shop-is-on-the-move.html "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 6, 20196 yr See inside Ohio State's new $50M athletics facility Though the Covelli Center and Jennings Wrestling Facility seem like the new neighbors on the block in the emerging athletics district on Ohio State University campus, they've really been in the works for close to a decade. "We've had the idea for over 10 years," said Kyle Kuhlman, assistant director of communications for Ohio State Athletics. "The idea is to bring every athletics building besides (Ohio Stadium) west of the (Olentangy) River." Kuhlman said that vision will take years, if not decades, to fully complete. The goal is to create an athletics district, much like the arts district going up on the east side of campus for students in the arts-related disciplines, and provide a centralized community space for student-athletes to convene with one another. June 10, 20196 yr Ohio State to build $17M veterinary care clinic Ohio State University has plans in place to create a new, 35,000-square-foot, $17 million veterinary clinic on campus. According to a request for qualifications filed with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, the new clinic – which was approved at the board of trustees meeting two weeks ago – would go up beside the school's recently remodeled $9.3 million laboratory on top of the the college's Veterinary Medical Center, on the corner of Vernon L. Tharp Street and Coffey Road. According to the RFQ, in which the school is seeking an architect/engineer for the project, the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine sciences has graduated 9,100 veterinarians who practice in all 50 states and 40 countries. OSU's vet graduates make up 85% of the practicing veterinarians in Ohio. July 30, 20195 yr Construction activity at 15th and High - 15th is just beyond the green fence. The west side of High is being rebuilt between 16th and 13th. The crane is at 14th and Pearl - could the WOSU project begin soon?

August 19, 20195 yr It's strange that we really haven't seen a finalized/overall design for the 15th & High project yet, I know we have some loose renders but with cranes (a 240' one at that) rolling in soon, the whole project still feels very ambiguous. Also, I just went back to the OEAAA website to look at the current pending applications, and I noticed there are now three different tower crane applications for this area. "Tower Crane A" - 174' tall: Location on Google Maps "Tower Crane" - 243' tall: Location on Google Maps "Tower Crane B2" - 178' tall: Location on Google Maps In terms of buildings, I've only seen one structure application submitted, which is "Building A" - 91' tall. August 26, 20195 yr Ohio State energy vendor proposes $393M capital plan, including new plant and pedestrian bridge The private company managing Ohio State University's energy infrastructure wants to build a new energy-efficient joint heating and cooling plant – including a new pedestrian bridge over the Olentangy River – as part of a $393 million capital improvement plan. I have never noticed this until now and just doing some quick google mapping, that's not only super strange but also quite infuriating. Does anyone know why that is? I cannot imagine doing a normal crosswalk is any more difficult than the weird line boxes Columbus seems to be doing but the standard is a whole lot more visible to vehicles. I did look and notice that the physical OSU campus uses standard design so why wouldn't the city just continue this practice throughout? Very strange.

I've actually wanted to start a petition to make this change but.....I'm a little naive on how I can do this and if it's even possible. But I feel like it's something a citizen-led thing can achieve. OSU probably manages the streets on their campus......maybe. Or it's one of those RARE exceptions I was telling you about. If you go to another municipality, like Grandview Heights, they've adopted the standard design. Maybe not UA., lol. But for a city the size of Columbus not to do so, it's frankly embarrassing and is a blatant car concession. I actually know why this is going on within in the city, and I don't want to give details to make my source less anonymous....but there ARE people in the city fighting this....but they seem to not be making much progress. Anyway, sorry to derail the thread. I don't know where else to discuss it, though. Edited August 27, 20195 yr by Zyrokai
