If OSU gets smart and starts using shuttles on the buckeye lot loop for games, I think they could close it down completely. Oh believe me, I'm all for making Lane Avenue 1 lane in each direction with a separated bike lane and light rail. I'm playing devil's advocate for the suburbanites that complain about traffic the 3 times a year they venture into the city.
January 15Jan 15 I've only been to one game, but I vaguely remember they actually shut down a lane of traffic for pedestrians only anyway? If that is the case, then the lane clearly is not important to traffic on game days. Take it out permanently. Use adaptive reversible lanes. Call it a day. Edit. Confirmed. Thanks YouTube POV videos. Lol. Edited January 15Jan 15 by DTCL11
January 16Jan 16 The empty lot behind Midway got a redesign, at this point just demo Midway and build a proper building, this is awful looking.

January 17Jan 17 If they are changing it up, at least try to make the top match ethyl and tank a bit. Give it an older style vibe.
January 17Jan 17 I'm surprised they would even want to do any of this. Usually the lot is slammed pack during OSU game days and senior crawl.

January 25Jan 25 New Ohio State-area apartments developed by Austin-based firm readying for tenants "New apartments near Ohio State's campus are nearing completion. The Rambler Columbus, which is being developed by Austin-based LV Collective, is planned to wrap up construction at 222 W. Lane Ave. in the next few months. The seven-story building consists of 379 units and 889 beds, totaling 407,465 square feet. The project includes five floors of residential units, including two-level townhomes. Leasing started in April 2024 for the 2025-26 school year. The apartments are now about 65% pre-leased, Williams said. Students will move in in August." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2025/01/24/222-lane-osu-apartments.html

Even when they don't have massive events like the fair, quarter horse congress, goody boys, you cannot cross from one end to the other. Basically any event has them shutting down 17th to all through traffic, and even when theres nothing going on. It can be a bit maddening tbh. It needs to be addressed IMO.
January 26Jan 26 The closure of the old Vets Memorial convention hall pushed a lot of events to the fairgrounds.

I didnt realize there was construction on the North End this year too. But speaking of, I didn't get a Pic, much of the steel framing of 2 new buildings is up on the SE side of the fairgrounds by Audinos. I guess that explains it this winter, but its still been an ongoing issue for years they need to address for connectivity of neighborhoods. The only way to get from east to west is 1.5 miles apart which seems... not great for an urban area as the city focuses on connectivity. Edited January 26Jan 26 by DTCL11

The state doesn’t seem to really work well with what Columbus wants, so might be an issue there. Pretty sure the state couldn’t care less about urban connectivity

O’Reilly’s, both gas stations, the terribly designed strip with the Italian and smoke shops, the parking lot with all the scooters, it all needs to go.
February 17Feb 17 I have long said that Old North is the Sleeping Giant of being a huge hub of the city and show Clintonvile how it's done. AND if done right, preserving and showcasing some incredible architecture. The Hound Dog building sets the precedent for 5 stories too. (Not that that matters much more) It's probably buried in the old north thread but at one point I did a highlight potential land use map. And old North already boasts density and a pretty thriving community of shops, bars, and restaurants so the demand would be there.
February 17Feb 17 The newly built Tompkins Studios is a nice addition. Build a few more of these on the sites of Rallys, O'Reilly's, and Taco Bell with a couple five to six story buildings and Old North columbus would come alive! Edited February 17Feb 17 by sono4315

I mean, it kind of is empty, half of it anyway. But I did eat there recently and from a patron perspective, it's actually cozy and quaint and a solid covered patio. Felt much nicer than a patio that feels thrust into the sidewalk or street. So then it becomes whether it's better from the patrons perspective or someone driving by? 21 minutes ago, sono4315 said: and Old North columbus would come alive! Old North is very much alive as is. ;-) I think one important thing for Old North is that they focus on maintaining, and maybe expanding, its incredible live music scene. And historic structures. I kind of wish someone like Woods or Lyken would see Old North as their next pet project.

Woods would be better for actual clintonville development, because it’s expensive and they do great historic work. Old north needs less of that and more of just gritty small companies filling it in. My selfish want is for the plasma place and the CVS to be replaced, those spaces are so under utilized it’s a joke.

March 8Mar 8 Looks like 50 W Lane is back - This info is on the city's development tracker site, a really useful tool. https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/39172d7e3b49461e80affb3e639dfc0b Site plan and description are posted. The Lane Ave. side will be 100' tall and High St. side is 65'-9". I love that the current use is listed as Church/Bar. The church is a Baptist church.

Now, let's get rid of the CVS standalone store and go with the proposal for the 16 story mixed use building.
