At least we know the fiber cement board and the aluminum cladding is cheap... Also, I guess this replaces the development that was just proposed not so long ago for this site...? Am I mistaken, isn't this the same parcel? So there was the skinny proposal for the back portion of this site back in 2016. I could have sworn there was another development proposal that saved a few of the houses... Maybe I'm thinking about something else entirely. I also thought that some of these houses were going to be saved. I remember going to google street view to see which were staying and which were going. I was sure it was this site as well, and I was surprised by this announcement covering the whole block.

Ok I looked and can only find the old proposal for the skinny building and the initial post for this on page 22 is behind a paywall. But I know I am not crazy and there was a proposal for only part of this site.

But I KNOW there was a smaller proposal that only took the homes closest to the garage and left some of them on the eastern part of this new proposal. I remember looking on google street view to see which houses were going to go and even looking at the home #'s to determine which ones would be gone. Now with this proposal the whole block is going. ???? Oh well this will still be nice for that parcel and increase the # of units. Some of those houses looked ok, but nothing extraordinary and I guess this is progress.

(EDIT: This might not be it - I see that was for 11th Ave) Thanks for checking. I guess the whole thing is a moot point now-we have a new larger proposal and it is fine and I am fine with it. I was just glad someone else mentioned what I had been thinking re: the old proposal. This new one is just fine.
February 25, 20214 yr https://www.thisweeknews.com/story/business/2021/02/23/ohio-state-university-student-housing-nearly-500-apartments-proposed-south-osu/4546265001/ A busy agenda is scheduled for today's University Impact District Review Board meeting. The UIDRB will be reviewing three apartment projects that would add 477 new units in the south campus area. In addition to the King & High proposal (188 units) and the 8th & High proposal (146 units) at the Lucky's/Army-Navy store location, the below project would be located next to the Gateway Garage along 9th Avenue: Five-story building containing 143 apartments that would replace seven houses on the north side of East 9th Avenue just west of Section Alley. The proposal - by Austin, Texas, student housing developer Parallel Co. - would wrap ground-floor walk-up apartments around interior parking. Above the first floor, the apartments would overlook a courtyard on top of the parking deck.
February 26, 20214 yr The Parallel Co. developed apartment building at 88 E. 9th was up for conceptual review at this February's review board meeting. The form/mass of the building was generally accepted by the board, and it should be moving forward. These renderings from yesterday's meeting aren't much different than what was presented in January.

The remaining vacancies in Gateway include the AT&T and Sprint stores and the former Panera, District PourHouse and Oxley Tavern/Kildare's Pub spaces. A Taiwanese restaurant called Yong Kang Street was going to take the former Oxley Tavern space, however renovations stopped and the "Coming Fall 2019" signs came down late last year.

Still surprised about that Panera. There are 2 Chipotles, multiple Starbucks now... Interesting, too, that Wendy's never decided to re-open another location after their other suburban-style restaurant down on this end of campus closed. I wonder if South Gateway has also reduced its rents with so many other similar-style, new construction spaces all up and down High and Lane now.

August 2, 20213 yr A lot of Five Guys close. What they do was pretty edgy 15 years ago but is now common. Also the virus makes it where there's even more times nothing is going on at campuses.
