June 18, 200618 yr That looks like a really great, vibrant ethnic neighborhood. I absolutely love it! Now I know one of the places I'm going to visit the next time I'm in NYC. I see that MTA would rather have taggers paint its stations than have its own crews do the honors. And that's some grit along the way, like what I would have expected during the Robert Moses era. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
June 18, 200618 yr These are great, thanks a bunch for sharing. I have read quite a few Neil Simon plays and this made me think of his life and his roots. I hope I get the opportunity to visit here and other places in NY someday.
June 18, 200618 yr ^ nol: it's easy to visit, just remember to plan for travel time of over an hour from midtown on the 'b' local or 'q' express subway lines to the brighton beach stop. you could and should tie in a visit to brighton beach with a visit to coney island too, the neighborhoods are right next to each other. kjp there is an unbroken line of grafitti in 'the cut' walls on both sides all along the line, it's something else to see - heh~! the housing/apt stock along the way is quite varied and interesting too.
