June 29, 201014 yr Somewhat similar--I know a girl who seems normal when you hang out with her, but her facebook messages let everyone know how much her life sucks about 3-4 times a day! Not that I necessarily follow her written pain, but it is somewhat similar to what CBC is talking about. I'd say seven of her statuses are depressing and then you'll get the occassional "I love my life." or "I am a lucky, lucky girl and I love all my friends." Confusing as hell.... Does she realize who's reading this sh!t?!?
June 29, 201014 yr I have a couple Facebook friends who's every post is something along the lines of "Don't f*ck with me, I'm not in the mood. Everybody better stay out of my way today!" "Today?" Seems like everyday to me.

June 30, 201014 yr I actually just joined and I am already over it. I had to de-friend my own beloved step daughter b/c of some things she was saying on there that did not reflect the young lady she is....and then the stupid game updates. I did find you can block that though. Not sure if I get it.
June 30, 201014 yr Just a question to satisfy my curiosity. Does anybody else out there have a random FB friend whose wreck of a life has become a morbid enjoyment/fascination for you? Basically the FB equivalent of really trashy reality TV? I became friends with this girl that I graduated high school who I thought was pretty unassuming and down to earth. Boy was I wrong. First off she is one of those that apparently doesn't filter what she posts on the internet. I am trying to piece her life together from her FB posts and its a riot. She has kids, maybe a Boyfriend/ husband, she just moved out of the BF? house with the kids, she post alternating loving and damning posts about the BF. She may have early stage MS, not sure about that and lots of other random facts and events that don't make sense. And the whole reason that I posted this was her status up date this morning was that the BF doesn't react to "I am on fire" because she fell asleep on the couch last night woke up at 2AM and lit a cigarette while lying on the couch and managed to catch her shirt on fire. Seriously I am so fascinated by her crazy life. Heh. I have a much more positive version of this story. A girl that I had something of a crush on in high school (she wasn't interested, so we never dated) seemed all girl-next-door at the time, which was all well and good ... but after she moved away to Philadelphia to go to school, she got involved with a really avant-garde creative community there called the Philadelphia Experiment (PEX), has been going to all the Burning Man festivals since then and a couple of lesser-known regional events drawing on the similar nonconformist/creative vein, and--like your friend--she also doesn't censor much of what she posts on Facebook (or maybe she does, but what she does post is fantastic entertainment). In addition to her day job, she's now a professional fire dancer and at least one of her creative-class friends is an incredible photographer. So, I can say something of the same things as you: I try to piece together the course of her life since HS from her Facebook photos, and have something of a fascination with where her life's track is going, but there's nothing morbid about it. It's just plain old fascinating. Our ten-year reunion is this year and I'm sure I'm not going to be the only one from the Class of 2000 curious to ask how she turned out the way she did. (Most of my fellow Class of 2000 folks, including myself, will sadly have less exciting stories to tell. I'm pretty much just an eldest child doing everything that was expected of him.) I'm really glad for the way Facebook has made it easier to keep in touch with a lot of people that one might have lost touch with completely in the days before Internet 2.0. I fully admit that it's no substitute for regular social contact in person or even over the phone for one's closest friends--but for large numbers of others, it makes keeping a little bit closer to casual friends from different stages of life a lot easier, which I think is a very positive development. I'd have lost touch with a lot of people from high school, undergrad, and even law school without Facebook--and it hasn't hollowed out any of my closer relationships, since I make it a point *not* to let them be defined by Facebook alone, and so I do actually use those old-fashioned communication devices to keep in touch, too. You know, Blackberries. 8-)
June 30, 201014 yr Scrabble is the only facebook game that I play, and that usually through the itouch app. I love scrabble! I have it on my ipod touch too & just found out that I can play via facebook. So, if you are down to beat me in scrabble, just let me know! haha ( http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=53700855 ) But, facebook is just another addiction for everyday Americans (myself included, who is in front of a computer at least 8 hours a day). Although a lot of statues and updates can be annoying and you want to defriend all of the people who send you multiple, lame application requests, it really is a wonderful tool to interact with those you never see anymore, people you haven't seen in years, or to have yourself a good laugh at the drunken pictures one of your friends have posted.
June 30, 201014 yr I just had a client add me on facebook. What should I do. My facebook is squeaky clean as it should be, but I always thought that linkedin was much more appropriate for that.

The wife and I have been on a major Scrabble kick, both electronic and old school board games. We are getting pretty good, average scores in the 275-300 range. I never realized how much strategy there really is to the game. She keeps beating me though. She is playing an friend of a friend on FB who is literally a genius (he is a research scientist in bio fuels) and he keeps beating her. It is driving her nuts. BTW is your screen name pronounced Katy-O?

I always go for the easy words (4-8pts) because they are all I know, plus I just downloaded it a few weeks ago. I'm just a Scrabble newbie! But I feel for your wife because when the computer beats me, I get frustrated so I can only imagine a bio fuel research scientist beating me! haha :) But I haven't found too many people who actually play Scrabble on fb, nor have I tried it yet. I'm going to have to convince some of my friends to get hip with fb Scrabble. And yes, it's pronounced how it looks, just spelled differently: Katie O

September 23, 201014 yr As you kids know, FACEBOOK is down. We've been getting these reports on our sites. Some are hilarious. BREAKING NEWS: Facebook is down. Worker productivity rises. U.S. climbs out of recession. Facebook isn't working! Millions of people are being forced to WORK at WORK! Did Zuckerberg just shut down Facebook to get back at everyone who wants to see the movie Facebook has a poke button, but it seems like they've been stabbed. Major fail! If facebook has poke, but I think they just got stabbed, as the sit is down Via Zipcar - If you're concerned about Facebook being down, we suggest reserving a Zipcar and visiting your friends in person to see what they're up to. When Facebook goes down, everyone comes to Twitter to talk about it. When Twitter goes down, the world falls mute. Facebook users are roaming the streets in tears, shoving photos of themselves in people's faces and screaming 'DO YOU LIKE THIS? DO YOU??'
September 23, 201014 yr I haven't seen it, but I haven't heard any good things about it. Here's a great tweet I find it hilarious that FACEBOOK has to come to TWITTER to tell us FACEBOOK is down. Ohhhhh the irony. Thank God UO is working! O0
September 23, 201014 yr Haha! The last one was great. I can actually visualize that and it's a sad sight. I did not know Facebook was down though. That's interesting.

November 8, 201014 yr Friend in Los Angeles: The Chipotle on Vine has about eight parking spots and all of their employees park in them. Person 2: OMG. I went there the other night and circled that block like 2 times looking for a space. Then said f*ck it and parked in one of the tenant spots below. I will NOT park in one of the questionable RAPE spots below. How the hell did they NOT think of parking. Lame. I mean, I am not trying to get raped for a damn burrito bowl. 3 minutes ago · Like · 1 person Friend from LA: The garage is worthless and impossible to park in. November 14, 201014 yr Facebook’s Gmail Killer, Project Titan, Is Coming On Monday Jason Kincaid Nov 11, 2010 Back in February we wrote about Facebook’s secret Project Titan — a web-based email client that we hear is unofficially referred to internally as its “Gmail killer”. Now we’ve heard from sources that this is indeed what’s coming on Monday during Facebook’s special event, alongside personal @facebook.com email addresses for users. This isn’t a big surprise — the event invites Facebook sent out hinted strongly that the news would have something to do with its Inbox, sparking plenty of speculation that the event could be related to Titan. Our understanding is that this is more than just a UI refresh for Facebook’s existing messaging service with POP access tacked on. Rather, Facebook is building a full-fledged webmail client, and while it may only be in early stages come its launch Monday, there’s a huge amount of potential here. more: http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/11/facebook-gmail-titan/
November 15, 201014 yr I think I'm going to pass on FB email. Facebook for most people is a love/hate relationship!
November 15, 201014 yr Google is the lesser evil in terms of letting a big corporate entity have access to your personal information. I would never use facebook email for anything. Not even to sign up for a online newsletter or to vote for an Allstar team, etc.
November 16, 201014 yr Hey AOL is coming back baby! Granted this time just as a media company. Just be sure you're not still paying them money ;) Turns out the Facebook project is a scheme to link all your communications together so that all the information runs through Facebook servers even while you use everyone elses tools (texting, email, IM, etc). An interesting tool, but again I would like to keep my presence on the internet balkanized as long as I can.

November 16, 201014 yr From Wikipedia: Since its merger with Time Warner (the owners of the aforementioned Warner Bros.) in 2001, the value of AOL has dropped significantly from its $240 billion high. Its subscriber base has seen no quarterly growth since 2002. AOL has since attempted to reposition itself as a content provider similar to companies such as Yahoo! as opposed to an Internet service provider. From Yahoo: The steep decline in revenue suggests that the company still needs to attract advertisers willing to spend big on the website. Advertising revenue fell 27 percent to $292.8 million on declines in search, display and third-party ads. ... By contrast, far larger web rival Google Inc (NasdaqGS:GOOG - News) reported a sharp rise in search and display advertising revenue, while Yahoo Inc (NasdaqGS:YHOO - News) showed stronger display advertising sales. AOL's subscription revenue also dropped, falling 26 percent to $244.8 million. From PC World: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/182593/aol_looks_to_slash_staff_by_a_third.html From The New York Times (about Time Warner spinning off AOL): With AOL’s revenue and profit shrinking steadily for years, analysts have called it a drag on Time Warner’s stock price. This was back when I was like 14 and parents didn't want to pay a whopping 20 bucks a month for internet since they never used it. I would do the one month trial for basically every internet service and alternate them. OMG who remembers OREGON TRAIL!?!?!?!?!?!?! Best game ever.
