I'm curious as to what's going on in Cleveland and Cincinnati (and if there's anything comparable, smaller cities like Toledo, etc). Jeffrey Place which is being built will add over 1,000 units (their site estimates 3,300 people) and Jaeger Commerce Park, if it goes through, will add ~1,000 more. Harrison Park will add over 300 and is under construction. Then there's the 20 story North Bank condo tower (under construction) and there are also recently revealed plans to build a taller one at 23 stories also in the Arena District. Liberty Place will add over 300 rental units in the Brewery District. So how are the other two C's progressing? What are the big projects over there?

^^That's actually too much. "Couple of projects" my butt, but it's good to know a lot's going on. I just have to do some digging.

^Now that's more like it.

wait... 1000+ units of what??  thats a few sizeable buildings...

isnt that whole "pesht" project in that range for cleveland's warehouse district?

Sorry. I'll tell the developers to ease up a bit.

^And then Columbus can undisputably be the largest city in Ohio. Exxxxxcellent.

I'm sure every major city in Ohio has rather large residential projects in Ohio.  Hell, the West End's CityWest in Cincinnati alone is enough to make the Jeffery Place look like a Tonka toy.  So everybody is doing rather well...

This smelled like a competition when I read the first message. Shame on me for biting on it.  :bang2:

^^^J/king, I'm more than happy to hear about good news in other cities.

^^Have any idea why the rest hasn't begun to be built yet? I thought they got a green light for the rest of the project.

^ Sure, if I had the time I'd search everything, but I think having them all in one thread would be a bit more convenient.

there is so much political wrangling and ups and downs with each project, i prefer the seperate threads as they are.

I can't see how it would be more convenient. If we had just one thread about all downtown projects in any of the three C's, each thread would probably see hundreds of posts per day, making it very difficult to follow, carry on a coherent and fluid discussion, and generally be a pain in the ass.

The multiple separate threads on individual projects are usually prefaced with the word "Cleveland" which is what made it so easy for me to find all the links I posted in my first response to this thread. It took me all of a few minutes to find all of those links. Research is usually a time-consuming, pain-staking thing. This site at least helps ease some of the research pains. I don't think you're going to do much better than this place.

I can't speak on the subject of other cities' threads, but every so often, just to catch our breath and take stock of everything, some of us in Cleveland post a summary of projects in the "Random Cleveland Developments Thread" in the Projects and Construction section. If you want to do some research, that's as good a place to start as any.

Perhaps what would work is one thread that has a brief narrative overview, a siteplan (or one rendering if no siteplan is available), and a discussion thread link for all the major projects for each city in a single post for each city.  All responses could be directed to the respective discussion threads.

Whoa, not ALL, just the biggest. Hence the title, but maybe the title leaves a little too much leeway. "Largest" residential projects would have been better. I went with "Biggest" now so it didn't sound too repetitive. Sorry about the confusion!

But where does "big" start and "small" end? At 200 units? 1,000 units? Should it be measured in dollars instead, since a number of downtown housing projects aren't strictly residential? Is $50 million considered big? $100 million? Very subjective stuff.

Even so, if we're talking $50 million as the baseline, I count up to a dozen downtown Cleveland projects, just off the top of my head. Perhaps 10 of those would survive raising the baseline to $100 million. That's still a lot of discussion, and each of the existing threads on those projects generate something like 1-20 responses per day. See the problem??

For what it's worth, I created an attempt at an all-inclusive Cleveland construction thread on the forum at skyscraperpage.com. It's by no means complete and my apologies to those whose images are there but I thought it would be good for a global audience (almost 10K members) to see that things are happening in Cleveland. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=97396

I know, a lot of people might groan at the thought of viewing/joining another forum, but urbanohio.com basically grew as an offshoot of the skyscraperpage.com forum. The format is very similar - it's just that you have about ten times as many potential viewers (and they're spread across the globe).

KJP, What I am suggesting would not have discussion on that particular thread.  All discussions would be directed back to the main thread for the particular project.  It would be an overview for anyone new coming to the site, so that they could see all the big projects that are going on in the major cities.  It would also be an index, to remove the need for seaching through for the right thread on a project, especially if the project hasn't been discussed in a while.  Essentially, you've got the idea on the Random Cleveland Projects Thread, but this would be expanded out to more projects, and all of the major cities.

If somebody wanted to put one together, a thread could be created listing all of the links and then it would be locked so no one could reply in it.

Attempts to do something similar in the past have largely failed, including the "Best of Urban Ohio" page that RiverViewer put together.  This page has been largely forgotten.  These things have to be updated constantly.

Also, I think the scope of this thing would get out of control.  What are your parameters?  What cities would you include?

I think when we start discussing including site plans, etc., then this post will quickly grow so large that it's no longer very useful.

I think just the city, name, and number of units would suffice and it would be best to limit it to the three C's. If someone wants one for medium-sized cities that would be separate.
