Posted June 19, 200618 yr I took myself a little trip to Pittsburgh with the ol' fiance... and just so happened to bring along the digi camera. Got one comment to preface this thread... Pittsburgh = UNDERRATED. I started our tour by just getting to the point... Next a stroll up the Allegheny River The Toast of Pittsburgh Duquesne Incline in the distance COSI? PNC Park, definately NOT the Toast of Pittsburgh And we emerge from the river to see this beauty Where to next, Corinna? My fiance snaps a shot before we head to... THE STRIP (Think Shorth North, but not as short) An ode to Superstar Mark in the Strip After all this time in the Strip one needs to converse with God But that's no church!!! Time for some downtown action... so long Strip NYC what? My attempt at artsy Phallic... indeed Chicago what? LA what? Red Rover Red Rover I call ColDayMan over! Market Square, tis no Public Square! My new love affair... PPG!!!!!!! Bow to it's splendor... mere mortals... Now off to Station Square... but first, one must cross an important bridge to Cincinnatians! Newport on the... I mean Station Square. And now a break, to give an ode to KJP Enough of that, time get a new perspective And with that, Corinna and I bid you adieu Thanks for caring!!! :-D
June 20, 200618 yr Can't believe I am saying this....being a Clevelander (even though parents from greater Pittspuke and speak with words like yins and WaRshington...which I do NOT)....but DAMN that is great looking downtown! Beautiful city...wish Ctown planners would take a few lessons!
June 20, 200618 yr An Ode to ColDayMan. God bless ya! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 20, 200618 yr YES! I hung it there. I run around the city and hang giant disco balls everywhere. It's part of the Greater Pittsburgh beautification project.
June 20, 200618 yr Fan-frickin-tastic...beautiful rivertowns rock! BTW, where do we pay up our $5? Nobody was at the door taking money when I came in...
June 20, 200618 yr Great! I've only been there once, but I'm a big fan of the city, encouraged greatly by galleries here. The strip looks neat, but I think the Short North is a little "cleaner/neater," just by the pics. Oh, and what is this term "toast?" I think it must be negative?
June 20, 200618 yr I think the etymology is from toasting someone. It's positive...if someone is "the toast of the town," they're important and respected and folks are all agog over them. So the Toast of Pittsburgh would be a superlative and appreciated thing... At least, that's what I think he meant!
June 20, 200618 yr Fan-frickin-tastic...beautiful rivertowns rock! I think I'll just second this rather than think up a unique response.

The phrase actually came to mind because of a Steelers billboard I saw on the way downtown. Thanks for all the nice comments! We did indeed have a great time.
June 21, 200618 yr ^Ah, okay, you are unique then, generally I hear praise for PNC, and rants about Heintz.
June 21, 200618 yr ^Ah, okay, you are unique then, generally I hear praise for PNC, and rants about Heintz. The sentiment is directed more at the teams which play in the stadiums rather than the stadiums themselves. The stadiums are both beautiful.
June 21, 200618 yr The photos of PPG are excellent. I remember seeing reports some time ago on one of the forums, either here or at SSP, of someone being hassled badly by building security for trying to take photos that weren't as close or as revealing as these.
June 22, 200618 yr I got hassled by security as well, but the damage was already done  They particularly weren't fond up my picture from the base to the top, lying on my back.
