Posted November 23, 200420 yr From the 11/23/04 Cincinnati Post: Hebrew Union plans $17M project Post staff report Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is planning a $17 million expansion and renovation of its Clifton campus. http://www.cincypost.com/2004/11/23/huc112304.html
November 24, 200420 yr Klau library has an excellent collection on the Holocaust and Nazi antisemitism. I did some research there a while back.
November 24, 200420 yr Wow, they are spending some serious money on that campus. They're just finishing up an expansion they started last year.
November 24, 200420 yr Yeah, they sure are. I'm happy about it--HUC is a community asset that doesn't get nearly enough attention, IMO.
June 4, 200520 yr From the 6/4/05 Enquirer: Bringing home Jewish history in America Hebrew Union to dedicate its seven-year, $7M expansion and renovation By Maggie Downs Enquirer staff writer CLIFTON - The sleek glass door at the new education center opens to a treasure trove of history. A large gallery boasts a yellowed ketubah (marriage contract) from the early 19th century. A fading World War I poster bellows a message in Yiddish. A curling green cover contains a guide to the United States for Jewish immigrants. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050604/NEWS01/506040404/1056/rss02
May 5, 200718 yr Klau Library to expand accessibility, collection Depository for Judaic artifacts out of space http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2007/05/07/focus2.html Faced with either finding space for the growing collection at the Klau Library at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion or to simply stop adding items, the decision was apparent to administrators.
April 20, 200916 yr Renamed and moved this thread for general Hebrew Union College developments since no other thread existed. Hebrew Union could face closure By Amber Ellis, Cincinnati Enquirer, April 19, 2009 Tough economic times and multimillion-dollar debt might force Hebrew Union College, the nation’s oldest Jewish educational institution, to shut down its Clifton campus.
April 20, 200916 yr Madoff. The hard part of this is that Cincy's Jewish community is small and not all that Reform anymore. However, LA and NY likely have more institutions that could absorb these schools. Cincy is likely the cheapest to sustain, but with the lowest demand.
April 20, 200916 yr This would be a huge blow to the Cincinnati community. I really hope they can recognize the significance of Cincinnati in the reform movement, and keep the place open. I go by the LA location every day and it's one stand alone ugly building surrounded by USC and its environs. I say close that branch.
April 20, 200916 yr Hebrew Union backers plan appeal http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090420/NEWS01/904210329/1055/NEWS Greater Cincinnati's Jewish community will try to save the Clifton campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where the school was founded 134 years ago, but the college's financial problems may prove too severe.
May 5, 200916 yr Plan keeps HUC Clifton campus open http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090505/NEWS0102/305050074/1055/NEWS/Plan+keeps+HUC+campus+open The Clifton campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion would remain open under a plan announced Tuesday by school officials.
May 5, 200916 yr Awesome news! I think HUC should maybe market itself more to the community so it could raise more funds or attract more visitors to the museum and library they have. Also, perhaps UC could outsource its Judaic Studies program to HUC? Xavier already does this, and UC is basically neighbors with HUC. Out here, USC's Judaic Studies is done through the LA branch of HUC, and I think that is how it makes a lot of its money.
May 5, 200916 yr UC's Judaic Studies program is a mess and has been for years. HUC is actually a associate college of UC.
November 3, 200915 yr Hebrew Union retains Clifton campus The Enquirer, November 2, 2009 CLIFTON - The Board of Governors for the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute voted overwhelmingly Monday to continue supporting its mission on four campuses around the world, including its historic home on Clifton Avenue as well as campuses in New York, Los Angeles and Jerusalem.
May 27, 201015 yr Hebrew Union College gets $11M By Cliff Peale, Cincinnati Enquirer, May 24, 2010 Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion has received an $11 million grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation to increase the number and quality of Jewish educators it trains. The grant is one of three from the San Francisco-based foundation, which gave a similar amount to the Jewish Theological Seminary and Yeshiva University, both in New York. The grants will provide financial aid for students pursuing education degrees or certification in other programs that prepare them to work with Jewish youth and young adults.
May 27, 201015 yr ^This should help HUC remain more economically stable, and ensure it success in the future. Good news for HUC and Cincinnati.
