Posted June 22, 200618 yr I'm sure we can all think of handfuls of historic buildings we'd like to see restored, so I thought I'd start a thread for the sole purpose of posting old homes that have been mistreated and neglected over the years and currently have little hope for restoration; homes you feel sorry for; homes you'd love to get your hands on. I'll start with a rundown home/boarding house in Hamilton's Rossville Historic District. While the majority of structures on B, D, and Ross are restored, C St. is still in disrepair, greatly blighted by this building which could be a beauty. Stripped of the turret roof.. => SW corner of Ross and C Streets in Rossville
June 22, 200618 yr Definitely a great thread idea - though a depressing one...that is a grand house...
June 23, 200618 yr Man that is a nice house. :? For a second job I clean out repod houses in the CLE/Cuyahoga area, I can post a ton of pics of nice houses that fall into dismay. I just did one in Rocky River. Some guy bought this house in 2000 and didn't make one payment and JUST got kicked out 2 months ago. Pretty nice situations eh? This house had 4 fireplaces and two BEAUTIFUL oak sprial stairs, these pics don't do it justice. They are asking 305K for the house, but they said the would probably take low 200K for it. If anyone is into or interested in house rehabing, I in the process of doing one in Cleveland (My first house) I got a ton of pics and stories that go along with it. Let me know...
June 27, 200618 yr This sad place has been decaying for years - it's located along the Red Line on Cleveland's East Side: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
June 27, 200618 yr ^Thats a cool one too. That reminds me of that house you posted with the winding chimneys, I certainly feel sorry for that one, its awesome.
June 27, 200618 yr Ah yes - from my hometown of Salem; if I recall it's in even worse shape now (cornice fallen off the bay window, etc.): clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

October 11, 200618 yr Here is a couple on the west side (Denison by Ridge) I was in or near today. Some beauties here... If I hear no big objections, I wouldn't mind posting some inside/outside shots of these and other houses. Edit: Sorry, Didn't know I couldn't use yahoo...

October 14, 200618 yr A couple more houses I had to winterize today in Lakewood & the westside of Cleveland... Inside - House wasn't to badly beat up, but it wasn't pretty either... Just a couple blocks down on Elmwood, I did three houses on this street today... Inside was in terrible shape, this houses should be torn down... Nice little duplex with a big problem... Just a cool looking radiant heater... Anyone see a problem? Just a couple shots from some Denision houses... A picture of a building on my way back home... Tomorrow is North Olmsted and Olmsted Falls...
October 22, 200618 yr Salvic Village and the Polish District... The two houses on each side where gone, She has been used by homeless people lately... Just another view...Sad... Just in case you don't know where the phone goes... At the end of the street a new development... Site Map... Burned out garage... Big hole in the roof... Two more side by side boarded up... A couple of these houses are up for auction at http://www.williamsauction.com/auctions_list.php?state=OH&PHPSESSID=5d64dc3aa72b1137567e7b0d39a3ff02 Most of them go for less than $5,000...My new idea is these houses should be given away to out of towners...A come to Cleveland, free housing campaign...If you have a certain credit score, will live in the house for 5 years, and are willing to fix the house up to code, you can have the house and land for free...Most of these house have been sitting for 3-4 years. This week is the West Side near Metro Health...
October 31, 200618 yr ... My new idea is these houses should be given away to out of towners...A come to Cleveland, free housing campaign...If you have a certain credit score, will live in the house for 5 years, and are willing to fix the house up to code, you can have the house and land for free...Most of these house have been sitting for 3-4 years. What you describe sounds very much like Baltimore's homestead project, from the 1970s. If people met similar requirements, at the end of the waiting period they got the property deed for a dollar. The project returned derelict properties tax-paying status, and from what I've heard, I think it was very successful in revitalizing a large amount of housing stock.
November 1, 200618 yr Here's one in Lorain to feel sorry for: And it's been that way since 2002, per the auditor's website: Directly across the street is Zaremba's Harborwalk project and these new townhomes: How would you like to pay $169-179k to live across from that?

August 31, 201014 yr The home that inspired this thread has finally seen some work. 2006 Last month Where is this House? Near Cincy? Many of these homes appear to be structurally solid....and worth renovation/restoration. I thought the city did have some sort of dollar for the land/house thing...and incentive that had a live for so long requirement. If not, great proposal and it may spur some people to restore these...No speculators or fly by night flippers, though.
