Posted June 23, 200618 yr Going to Cleveland this weekend, I was wanting to check out Tremont, Ohio City, and other assorted nice urban neighborhoods but I'm not sure where they are. Anyone know of a website that outlines the neighborhoods? Thanx

June 23, 200618 yr You've picked a great weekend - we're supposed to have sunshine and temps in the mid-70s. I've put together two maps for you of Tremont and Ohio City. The first is the overall map. I'm not sure which direction you'll be coming from but note that most importantly - the direct exit from I-71 north to West 14th Street in Tremont is CLOSED. Also - certain interstates only have an exit in certain directions (for example, the West 25th exit from I-90 is only in the eastbound direction). You could take a scenic route and it won't add too much travel time - take I-71 north to the Ontario Street exit downtown. Once on Ontario, be ready to make a LEFT onto Carnegie (you should see the art deco bridge statues). Take that bridge (Lorain-Carnegie) until you reach the West Side Market area. You can't miss the West Side Market tower at West 25th and Lorain. Parking is free in the West Side Market lot, however it is very busy on Saturdays. The area in general will be busy because of the weather and the Open Air at Market Square (across from the market). Street parking is also at a premium. DO NOT park in the strip plaza lot where the EB Games is located. The West Side Market is a must see, http://www.westsidemarket.com and if you like beer, you have to go to the Great Lakes Brewing Company http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com. If you go to Great Lakes Brewing Company, make sure not to park in the Dave's Supermarket lot. This map shows a little more detail. Note that to get from Ohio City to Tremont, you need to follow Abbey Avenue (the green line). This is one spot that's tricky if you're not familiar with it. There's a brief "dogleg" off Lorain onto Gehring (right next to the RTA station) and then to Abbey. Once on Abbey, you'll go over a bridge and under the interstate and you'll be in Tremont. For food in Tremont, I recommend the South Side or Lava Lounge. Civilization is great for coffee. Here are two sites that do a good job covering Tremont and Ohio City, respectively. http://www.restoretremont.com/ http://www.ohiocity.com/ Feel free to ask if you need more information. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
June 23, 200618 yr In addition to the OC and Tremont, don't forget: (West Side) Edgewater Detroit-Shoreway (East Side) Chinatown Little Italy Shaker Square All in the city of Cleveland.
June 23, 200618 yr Yes, you can buy one from a bus driver, train driver, automatic ticket machine or wherever. Just slip three $1 bills into the fare machine when you get on board a bus or train and ask for an all-day pass. Keep the pass someplace where it won't get bent or folded because the magnetic strip on back of them are a bit fickle when a crease goes through it. June 23, 200618 yr By the way, if you like road races, the Cleveland Grand Prix race is this weekend at Burke Lakefront Airport http://www.grandprixofcleveland.com/ For more events happening this weekend, visit: http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/ "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
June 23, 200618 yr I just finished my first trip into Cleveland. Spent most of my time in Ohio City. It's easy to find a spot to park for free on the side streets. Most of the meter parking on w. 25th is one hour parking. Definitely get a Dortmunder at Great Lakes. I was so addicted to those things that I was even paying 7 bucks for them at the airport on the way home. I also enjoyed the Bier Markt, Garage Bar and Old Angle Tavern, all in Ohio City within a block from each other.
June 24, 200618 yr I am glad to hear you liked the area!!....I hope you realized (a lot of out of towners don't) that the parking meters are free after 6 pm and on weekends....just some info for the next time you are here.
