Going to be passing through CMH on Friday and I have a 2 hour 45 minute layover.  What would you do for food considering this time frame?

Your options might be pretty limited since the concourses at CMH are not connected. If you're flying into Concourse A, Donatos and Vino Volo would probably be your best bets. If you're in Concourse B, then probably Land Grant Brewing Co. If it's Concourse C you're arriving in, then Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe. If you decide to leave the Concourses, then Max & Erma's is the best pre-security option. Hope this helps.

Very helpful, thanks.  So I can't go between concourses without passing through security again?  Bummer.

John Glenn Airport continues to report strong passenger traffic

John Glenn Columbus International Airport remains on track to have its busiest year ever, with passenger numbers for April up 8.3 percent over the previous April and year-to-date figures up 5.5 percent over the same period in 2016.

Rickenbacker also had a strong month, with cargo tonnage up about 20 percent for both the month and the year so far, and passengers on budget airline Allegiant Air up 42.2 percent for the month of April.

Elaine Roberts, CEO of the airport authority, said early this year that 2017 was likely to be John Glenn Airport’s biggest-ever year in passenger totals.

Southwest to suspend Columbus-Oakland flight during winter

By Marla Rose, The Columbus Dispatch

Updated: July 5, 2017 at 7:09 AM

Columbus will temporarily lose a long-sought nonstop flight to the San Francisco area early next year, leaving Los Angeles as the only nonstop West Coast destination from John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

The 41-day seasonal suspension of Southwest Airlines’ daily nonstop flight between Columbus and Oakland from Jan. 8 to Feb. 17 illustrates a trend in which airlines are tweaking their flights to maximize revenue.

Nonstop service to the West Coast has been elusive for Columbus - apart from briefly having service to Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego and the greater Seattle area (Bellingham, Washington) from short-lived Skybus Airlines.

North American Airports Effectively Navigating Construction, Capacity Challenges, J.D. Power Finds

http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/jd-power-2017-north-america-airport-satisfaction-study

Overall passenger satisfaction with North American airports has reached an all-time high, as airports of every size have found creative ways to address the challenges of constant construction projects and increased passenger capacity demand. That’s the finding of the J.D. Power 2017 North America Airport Satisfaction Study,SM released today.

“Capacity has become a huge challenge for North American airports, with many reporting 100% of available parking spots being filled and large airports, such as Orlando International, setting passenger volume records each month for more than three years straight,” said Michael Taylor, Travel Practice Lead at J.D. Power. “Despite these difficulties, airports are responding with new technology and old-fashioned personal skills to win over harried travelers. These range from smartphone apps that tell travelers where to find a parking spot to therapy dogs—and in one case, a therapy pig—mingling with travelers to relieve stress and improve the overall airport experience.”

Following are some of the key findings of the study:

Overall satisfaction reaches all-time high: Overall customer satisfaction scores have reached an all-time high of 749 (on a 1,000-point scale), which is up 18 points from last year’s all-time high. Improvement is driven primarily by a 25-point increase in satisfaction with security check, thanks largely to fewer TSA staffing issues this year, and gains in two factors: check-in/baggage check (+19 points) and food, beverage, and retail (+15 points). Self-service bag-check kiosks and other bag-tagging technologies have played a significant role in improving the baggage check process.

Tech investment helps overcome logistical hurdles: With nearly every airport in the country dealing with challenges of high passenger capacity and ongoing construction projects to address increased demand, technology is helping to directly address these issues. For example, Sacramento International Airport has developed a smartphone app that tells travelers where they can find a parking spot, and virtually every airport in the country has invested heavily in improving phone-charging stations and internet access in their terminals.

Dogs, horses and pigs! Oh, my!: Many airports have also found success in improving customer satisfaction through creative use of high-touch traveler outreach initiatives. Phoenix Sky Harbor, for example, deploys a team of therapy dogs for passengers to pet while they wait to board; San Francisco International features a pet therapy pig that roams the terminal looking for pets and selfies; and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport has more than 30 stress-relieving ponies on staff with which travelers can interact.

Big city construction projects remain obstacle to satisfaction: Despite the most creative efforts to address traveler frustration, major city airports that are in the thick of massive construction efforts—notably Newark Liberty, LaGuardia, Los Angeles International and Chicago O’Hare—are still fighting the headwinds of traveler disruption and access challenges that are handicapping their overall satisfaction scores.

“The trifecta of a steadily improving economy, record passenger volume and billion-dollar renovation projects unfolding in airports across the country has created a challenging environment for customer satisfaction,” Taylor added. “The fact that many airports are overcoming those challenges is incredibly instructive for the industry as it remodels and improves airport infrastructure.”

http://www.dispatch.com/business/20180606/columbus-loses-flights-to-west-coast-again

-- For the second year in a row, Southwest Airlines, the largest carrier at John Glenn Columbus International Airport, will cut service to one of only two West Coast cities served from Columbus with nonstop flights.  The change was disclosed when Southwest recently opened bookings through early January.

-- The reduction in flights to Oakland, California, comes as Columbus officials continue to push for more flights to the West Coast.  Columbus development officials announced the 2015 launch of the Columbus-Oakland route with great fanfare.  Then-Mayor Michael Coleman said the flight would be “a pipeline to Silicon Valley” and would spur investment and economic development in Columbus.

-- The airport authority has tried for years to secure nonstop flights to Seattle, San Francisco — right next door to Oakland, but still considered a valuable market — and San Diego.  Those are the top three destinations not currently served by nonstop flights from Columbus.  More than 100 passengers fly in each direction between those cities and Columbus each day.  However, 100 isn’t enough to fill up the full-sized aircraft necessary to serve the West Coast nonstop from Columbus.  Southwest planes have close to 140 seats.

  • 3 weeks later...

http://www.dispatch.com/business/20180625/passenger-traffic-at-john-glenn-airport-up-64-in-may

-- Columbus’ airports continued to see increased activity in May, keeping them on track for record passenger and cargo numbers in 2018.  John Glenn Columbus International Airport served 717,395 passengers in May, a 6.4 percent increase over May 2017.

-- Southwest Airlines, Columbus’ biggest carrier, saw a 6 percent increase.  Third-largest carrier Delta Air Lines also had an increase of 6 percent, which brought its monthly passenger total of 162,182 within about 3,000 passengers of matching American Airlines, which has been the airport’s second-largest carrier.

-- Frontier Airlines, which has made cuts at Columbus and elsewhere, saw a 46.7 percent drop in passengers for the month, to 14,182.  But that was more than made up for by the recent entry of another low-cost carrier, Spirit Airlines, which served 31,038 passengers.

Wow, that's huge for CMH...CVG already has Delta to SEA, leaving CLE in need of a year-round, daily option to SEA; UA is a possibility...but Columbus hasn't had the same momentum that CLE and Cincy have had, and are still lacking a TATL, so solid add!

Welp:  http://www.dispatch.com/news/20180927/columbus-losing-daily-san-francisco-area-flight

One month after the announcement of a long-sought nonstop flight to Seattle on Alaska Airlines, Columbus has lost another hard-fought nonstop route to the West.  As it opened bookings on Thursday through June 8, Southwest Airlines revealed it is not reinstating a daily nonstop flight from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to Oakland, near San Francisco.

The last daily flight is Nov. 27, with Sunday-only weekly service starting after that.  There will be five-times-weekly service for the period around Christmas and New Year’s.  After that, nonstop flights cease except for a few weekly nonstops at spring break time in March and April.

The move leaves Los Angeles as the only daily West Coast nonstop destination from Columbus from November until March, when Alaska Airlines begins service to Seattle.

Southwest airlines drops daily, nonstop flights between Columbus, Oakland

Southwest Airlines is cutting daily, nonstop flights to and from to Oakland, California. That follows on the heels of recent news that Alaska Airlines is creating direct flights to Seattle.

Southwest said the last daily flight between John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Oakland will be Nov. 27. After that, only Sunday flights will be available. And the last direct flight will be on Jan. 6, according to the airline.

This announcement makes Los Angeles and Seattle the only West Coast cities with daily, direct flights from Columbus.

The flights are available for booking now and the new air service hopes to provide West Coast access to the business and startup community in Columbus.

Good news for fans of Utah. A new nonstop flight between the John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) and the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) will be introduced by Delta in the summer of 2019.
