I'm very happy to see John Glenn International receiving a brand new world class terminal. With how much Columbus is growing and investments going into the city we really need to get at least 1 or 2 European Direct Flights.

Give me Schiphol all year with a seasonal flight to Paris.

I'm curious how many folks come in outside of our metro to fly with no real airport options on the east/south east side of the state (unless you go to Pittsburgh).

I would absolutely love a direct to AMS, even if it was something like a 4x/weekly flight. I'm fairly confident we'll have a European flight announced right around the time the new terminal opens.

To your last point though, the population in that area of the state really isn't all that high. We certainly get most of those people who need to fly, but very few of them actually fly, and there aren't many people living there to begin with.

What's crazy to me is CMH is actually slightly closer in terms of drive time to DAY than CVG is to DAY. CMH is a legit option for many people north of downtown Dayton in terms of direct flights not offered at DAY.

I also believe that the design intent is to be more easily expandable. Early concepts for the new alignment highlighted the ease of expansion compared it its current alignment. I would imagine one of

Also a fantastic point if you look at any of the cities on the North West side before you get to close to Detroit or Cleveland (Lima, Marion, Sidney, Piqua, and possibly Findlay?)

Either way I think the flight into Schiphol would be the best option due to it's many connecting flights to other countries in Europe / Asia.

Annectdotally, Northwest folks I have known over the years split between Columbus or Detroit who has the benefit of many more direct flights. Folks would sooner drive the 2+ hours to DTW for a direct vs 1-2 hours to CMH and have a layover in an airport they dont like.

Western folks I have known over the years still generally choose Cincy because it has a reputation of being less expensive. Now, how those costs ACTUALLY bear out is a different story after driving that far but I knew folks who lived in Marysville that would always fly out of Cincy instead. (An outlier) but they were also originally from Celina.

I believe CMH is the unofficial airport for non-Wheeling West Virginia as well.

CMH is closer to Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg (three of WV's biggest metros) than it is to Pittsburgh. That's why I said non-Wheeling West Virginia.

That is insane. Even if CVG had a nonstop option that CMH didn't, the drive alone negates whatever layover you would have had flying out of CMH. And nowadays there are hardly any nonstops out of CVG that you can't get out of CMH.
