I love your freighter photos. I've never been fortunate enough to be there at the right time to see/photograph one.

Nice shots!  I love the freighters.  The Cuyahoga looks like the chocolate river in Willy Wonka's factory (if only OompaLoompa was toiling in the background).

Yeah, the river was a tad dirty - we recently had a bunch of rain and whenever that happens, a lot of sediment and umm, "other" stuff gets flushed into the Cuyahoga  :?

I've got to second the appreciation for the freighter photos.  Were you out in a boat for the one picture, or was that the zoom lens in effect?

yes, I love freighters (even hearing them blowing their horns all night long!) , but with  river bed st. being closed (and my way to avoid bridges) for repairs, one of those guys can take 15 minutes (actually timed it Tues) to go through the bridge by Hoopples..then the race I never win to get to the center st bridge before it opens.  So Rob, just check my  schedule and that will let you know the boat schedule!  It is not uncommon to see two an hour during summer. A freight watchers insider tip is to visit Hoopples patio instead of Shooters . cheaper, less cheesy and more fun. great city view too

mayday- I forgot to mention, I love the skyline shot (the one after the one with the moon), it is if Cleveland is glowing. Maybe with gay pride?

Well, it was probably the sunset but maybe a little pride was there ;-)

 

rob - if you're ever in Cleveland, check boatnerd.com - I think they actually post shipping schedules. The thing about Shooters (yes, it's pretty cheesy) - the freighters were going to and from Ships Channel over by the Cargill mines. I didn't see any going further south on the river. But yeah, Hooples is a great spot :-)

a little 'local pride' addition re that freighter:

 

The Paul Thayer (U.S. 552395) was constructed at American Shipbuilding’s Lorain Ohio yard (hull #00902), in 1973, for Union Commerce Bank, Trustee, Cleveland, Ohio.

 

In 1975 management of the Thayer changed hands to the Oglebay Norton Company. Her management and ownership would again change to the Wilmington Trust Co. Trustee, Wilmington, DE in 1994 when the vessels united under the Oglebay Norton Marine banner. At this time the Paul Thayer was renamed Earl W. Oglebay.

 

 

My fav would have to be the photo of the indoor market.  That angle from above really does the space justice.
