The current project is exciting all on it's own, but then I got to the part of the article where they talk about future development to the south of the new road... let's keep that Columbus money flowing!

There’s still a telephone pole in the middle of the 70th side. So probably whenever CPP gets around to moving it. Maybe by fall.

Actually struck up a chat with the CPP crew there on Friday last week .... said "soon" to get rid of the poles... (all the ones on 70th west side of the street coming down he said )

look at that beautiful development lot sign --- all plotted out boldly and ready to go.

i honestly cannot get over battery park redevelopment.

it was a freakin poisonous factory, who would have ever imagined it could be remediated like this and redeveloped?

it's just awesome to see -- and i was always jealous of that site driving by on the shoreway anyway lol.

Seriously, go to the county GIS site (😉), zoom into BP and select the aerial basemap and use the slider to see the evolution of the site.

I wonder if this level and pace of development would've happened if the Metroparks hadn't taken over control of Edgewater.

^ wow thanks -- yeah that was a lot of fun to flick back and forth at different aerial dates.

2020 and 2015 are a good example there.

Telephone pole update ... still there  ( I check every day ... it's my new benchmark for project "progress" )

The road between 70th and 73rd is not officially open.

But I have now seen multiple scooters and at least 2 cars use it by going around the cones ..... closer every day :)

concrete has now filled the final hole for the road between 70th and 73rd.   hopefully this will open soon

Are they building on the last Battery Park lot on the west side of West 73rd?  I saw equipment.

Yes, they've started digging foundations there for what will be another cluster of for-sale townhouses, which I think are similar in design to those that are directly north of this plot.

Perhaps this was noted before already and I missed it, but I just saw the name for the Avenue Partners' new 258-unit apartment complex at the north end of West 73rd Street, near the railroad tracks (shown above in @Oldmanladyluck's post). The complex will be called Station 73 At Battery Park.

A permit application was submitted today for a new $7,000 illuminated sign just south of the tracks on West 73rd Street. The sign was described on the application as "Aluminum reverse channel letters with internal illumination, halo lit."

The apartment complex's website (not much on it yet)....

Here's one of the graphics from the application submitted today.....

^ will that sign face out over the shoreway?

regardless, that's a fine idea and it's an appropriate capper to battery park. i am not surprized the developers are proud. they should be. i always thought the whole of this project was a bit over ambitious, but they did it. they built it all out and basically it's exactly what they said it would be from the start. so big congrats -- it's a really attractive mix. and a new neighborhood out of a cool, former industrial setting. definitely one of my fav new developments for cleveland, or anywhere.

I don't think it will be visible from the Shoreway. It's too far south and will be blocked by the townhouse developments that are near the tracks and on either side of West 73rd. But the sign will overlook West 73rd as it rises up from below the railroad underpass.

I hope this is way out my price range or completed after 2026. The temptation to move there will be very high otherwise

Wow!  I'm sure this will bring the NIMBYs out, but so nice to see something unlike most anything in Cleveland!

goodbye Shoreway roof sunsets...lol.  But otherwise, gorgeous

Unlike other recent proposals (ahem - Bridgeworks), this one has improved as the design evolved from the original renderings.

I think J Rock is one of the best Cleveland they never disappoint

wasnt this the project that last design had huge beans extending upwards on the roof making it look like the building was half finished? This is a much better vision I love this update

that looks terrific -- 👍

Give me 10 more of these around the neighborhood! After all this city and this neighborhood has been through, I can’t believe people are trying to stop development like this.

I kinda like the idea of a project with some huge beans on the roof.  😜Imagine all the potential for selfies on Instagram, Tik Tok videos, etc.

Agreed...if the zoning changes don't prohibit. A row of these along the railroad tracks to Lake Ave would be amazing!

New design for Cleveland Shoreway tower OK’d
By Ken Prendergast / March 15, 2024

A desire to make a proposed residential tower overlooking Cleveland’s Edgewater Park more viable produced a design that won for it more praise from a city review panel. The proposed 13-story Shoreway tower grew from 95 apartments to 112 and shrunk its floorspace from 204,400 square feet to 140,000. In so doing, its grid-like exterior gained an intentionally distorted and sculpted appearance that earned it unanimous praise.

You have to stay on your toes on Urban Ohio @KJP! 😀 I'm loving this design. Keep them coming on the lakefront. One would think that the demand is there.

I really like this. One of the best designs of the last few years. Maybe they can do a property swap and build it at the Bridgeworks site instead. 😉

@Mendo earned it!

Wow - I'm so very pleased!

The earliest concept for the Shoreway Tower was shocking, and not in a good way. I remember comparing it to areas I've visited in Puno, Peru, where structures are never completed in order to avoid paying taxes on a "finished" construction project. Thank you to those community leaders who pushed back on this concept and looked askance at early the early designs - and demanded better.

I often suggest the community challenge initial concepts. One potential result of doing so is that, when pushed, developers might also turn out delicious eye candy as shown in the new design iteration above.   -- 👍👍👍👍👍

I seem to recall that a "foundation permit" was issued on this project several weeks ago.  That made no sense to me unless the developer was able to do foundation work at the same time they were moving the sewer line.  Does anyone know if the sewer line work is complete and/or if any foundation work has been completed?

Love it- absolutely love it. Give me this x 1,000 throughout the city including downtown on every single vacant lot that’s out there.

Great article Ken. This is beautiful and looks like it could be Intro's cousin. If only them Bridgeworks folks would take notice

I like the new design better, but this one did have a certain allure to me... Real super villain vibes that could fit in on https://old.reddit.com/r/evilbuildings/

I would've been perfectly happy if this version had been built.
