I ran through Battery Park around 7:00 last night and found a) volleyball courts full of players, b) people walking the sidewalks, c) Alley Townhomes foundations are in and contractors still hard at work nearing sunset!

Saw the exact same thing last night riding my bike through the area.  Really looks like it's going to be a great neighborhood when it's all said and done.  Can't wait to see the renovated powerhouse!

I have a question?  Do you kids consider this to be a seperate neighborhood or just an expansion of the current neighborhood and it's street grid.

I ask because I often here people say this will be a great neighborhood when it's done, when in my mind, it's just a development in detroit shoreway.

I consider it just a large development in Detroit Shoreway

How well it fits into the existing neighborhood will determine how people view it IMO.  Either way it's going to be a great addition.

Alley Townhomes are framed through floor one... nice to see this part of the development filling in.  And again, it was around 6:00 and the contractors were still on the job!

pics anyone... :)

I have been taking some as things have been going up.  I'll try to get around to posting some soon.

They are also still working (slowly) on the powerhouse, but it is certainly progressing.

^Yes, I saw some building supplies in front during my run.  Forgot to mention that!

They started putting the roof on the power house yesterday while I was at work.  Unfortunately it was too dark to take photos when I got home and I go straight to work when I wake up, so nothing to show for it yet.  I'll try to snap a couple shots if I get a chance to in the light, but feel free to beat me to it.

Greetings all. First post here. :)

Stumbled across your website while trying to do a search on the Battery Park development.

I live right "next door" in Casa Belvedere and walk my dogs by every day.

Roof is almost all the way on now on the powerhouse and some foundation work as well.

I saw the website plans for the building and ended up with a couple questions.

1) Saw there is a fitness center planned. Will it be member only or open to us Father Caruso hoi polloi?

2) Had heard a rumor that Swingos was going to come into the ground level as a restaurant but that was scrapped when they decided on Westlake ....Who is going to be serving me food/cocktails there?

3) I had heard the Marous was trying to be sneaky by taking a few feet off the top of the smokestack instead of carrying out the full restoration but that Matt Zone busted 'em on it. Rumors only? Anyone have the story there?

I can only answer your third question. My understanding is that the top 10 feet of the smokestack was removed for safety reasons, to make the smokestack more stable. The only reason why the smokestack was kept at all was for decorative purposes. I'm not aware of Matt Zone "busting" anyone on this.

As usual, the rumors are more intersting then reality. :)

thanks for the update!

Windows being framed out on the power house.

Scaffolding on the pipe was coming down this morning.

three stories framed on the new townhouses along w.74.  also a design different from what's been built with a second story deck over the main entrance.  theoretically, all units will have lake views looking north down w74, plus a main entrance protected from the elements.  windows and trim work have begun as well.

i've heard through the grapevine that units are selling well enough that a couple more buildings may be constructed this winter.

Yay!  I havent seen any pictures for a while...... (hint hint)

way to end on a high note with the rumors guv. hooray!

Asssss.......youooo......wiiisssshhhh.....

Haha, the mister and his family are so overly obsessed with that movie.  It's a little overbearing when you're in a room with 15 other people all reciting the movie line by line!

Rocky Horror? ;)

Just drove by the battery park powerhouse on the shoreway.  The new windows are installed.  They look nice.  I dont have a camera or I would take pics.

Hi all,

Finally got around to taking some pics the powerhouse and the new construction. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Warm nuzzles and bear hugz. Jim S.

Nice thanks for the update.

The BP Powerhouse is looking good.

Tower of the powerhouse has big red (to be illuminated in the future) letter spelling out BATTERY PARK now :)

Do you mean on the smokestack?

yes ---the smokestack......although I prefer to refer to it as a tower....i expect the next renovation will be to install crenellated battlements atop, perhaps with arrow slits :)

:-D When illuminated, the letters should look nice along the shoreway at night. Thanks for the info.

Hi all,

The BATTERY PARK name was installed starting end of last week and finished yesterday. I was surprised when I went out last night and saw it illuminated.

On a sour note, the last two pics, the group of townhouses that are nearing completing have this godawful trellis type growth on the front facade. I didn't notice this when I saw the renderings. Not something I would have wanted if I had bought one of them. Warm nuzzles and bear hugz to all.

THAT.IS.AWESOME

fwiw, dergon_gf commented that she really likes the cedar slatting on those units.

and ....damn! i can't believe you beat me to posting pix of the lit up smokestack :)

Do you guys who live there like the sign? It kind of reminds me of Steelyard Commons.

Hi all,

Sorry for beating you to the punch dergon. ;-) Love the sign and it is different from  Steelyard, that one is on a steel tower.

The cedar trellis looks disgusting, if I was going to live there I would paint them Fiesta or the Rainbow colors.

Warm nuzzles and bear hugz to all.

I like the trellis stuff.  It breaks up the monotony of the siding and gives an organic look.

I like the trellis thing, too, actually .. looks like the upper part can be used a small balcony, no?

I would hope that the homeowners decide to make use of the trellises and add some greenery.

I'm wondering if they are permitted to do any landscaping. I'm sure that the condo agreement dictates that they can't make landscaping changes. I'd hope that they sort of vine is part of the overall landscaping plan.

Is that indeed the front facade or the back?  Its hard to tell with all that vinyl.

correct, every unit has a partially covered 2nd story balcony, which in turn functions to cover the 1st floor entry.

hopefully owners can green up the trellises?

i like the signage, it's a good idea. but how bright is it? it's not turning anyone's living/bed room around there red at night is it?

The sign overlooks the volley balls courts and point more to the north. As far as the trellis things, nothing will ever make them looks good.

Warm nuzzles and bear hugz.

The sign looks completely out of scale if you ask me. Good idea, it's just too freakin big.

And thy have started putting up a second BATTERY PARK on the chimney facing west.  :-D

Jim S.

That's hot!  that sign is really cool!!  MTS give it two thumbs up.

Really identifies the development and a neighborhood.  Makes it an instant destination and unique to any other neighborhood.

I'll have to see the sign at night to comment further on whether it is too big. But it is sure is striking.
