July 8, 200717 yr Looking very much forward to Stone Mad and the new restaurant in the old Snickers spot. Any other new places along the Detroit Shoreway opening soon? We walked through the tunnel on W 76 today to Edgewater. When does the tunnel undergo renovation? Map Boy -- congratulations!
July 8, 200717 yr Hi all, If you love mac and cheese try Cheddars, it's next to Snickers. Theirs specialty is mac and cheese with just about anything. Cheddars is owned by the Snickers folks, you even have to use Snicker's restrooms, if the call arises. Warm nuzzles and bear hugz to all. Jim S.
July 8, 200717 yr I just ran by BP. They have already pre-sold three of the gateway townhomes across the street from the ones that they are still building.
July 9, 200717 yr Yep, tried Cheddars. Very good! Glad to hear more units are selling! Can't wait to move in. Jim -- I think we saw you the other day. Looking forward to meeting you and all the others in the new neighborhood! Also found out that Tregoning Art Gallery is in on W 78th across from the Pat Catan's building (future called Stonewater Condos -- I believe). The area is looking good. Anyone have any further information on Stonewater? Looking forward to that happening since the building is across the street from our new place. I know that the Catan's building is the building furthest north on W 76. There is another building south of that, attached, across from the Old Snickers. Anyone know if that will eventually become anything else?
July 9, 200717 yr I just ran by BP. They have already pre-sold three of the gateway townhomes across the street from the ones that they are still building. wow, very nice! do they have signs up or something? I ran through there on Sunday and boy was it hot! Can't wait for those shade trees to mature!
July 9, 200717 yr I was wondering, in the center of the landscaped park type area it looks like there should be a water fountain or sculpture. Anyone know?
July 29, 200717 yr Not bad... I actually really like the design. The modern style is pretty interesting. No mixed use?
July 30, 200717 yr There are going to be a couple of small restaurants or retail operations in the powerhouse, but no verticle mixed use. Is this really the spot for it? There isn't much traffic- auto or pedestrian.
July 30, 200717 yr I can't speak for BP but I think the intent is to maximize the land for housing given the views and the easy access to Edgewater. On the south end of the streets of course is the up and coming Detroit Shoreway with all the restaurants. There is a restaurant going in the old Snickers building and if StoneWater goes into the buildiing that is Pat Catan's warehouse along W 76 it is supposed to have some shops on the ground level. We were over there today, can't wait to move! Met some neighbors -- great guys who showed us their place. It is going to be a fantastic neighborhood!
July 30, 200717 yr Plus the old powerhouse was kept as part of BP so it could have a restaurant, cafe, community meeting room, fitness club or a combination of some of these uses (but not all of them -- the powerhouse isn't as big as the one on the Flats West Bank!). August 4, 200717 yr I noticed new signs that financing for the project is through Key Bank. I thought National City was involved. Is this a change?
August 7, 200717 yr I snapped some pics of this place going in really close to Battery Park, looks to be a restaurant/bar of some kind, very cool looking. Is this the old Snickers? (Sorry for the blurriness, I guess I wasn't standing quite still...)
August 7, 200717 yr The old Snickers was a two-story brick building, so that's not it - but you're right, it's a cool building! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 7, 200717 yr This is a new Irish-named bar on the corner of 65th and Herman. Its been discussed in other threads. Can't think of the name.
August 7, 200717 yr Ah, so that's where Stone Mad is going - great find Oompa, and thanks for the confirmation, DanB! http://wtle-cleveland.blogspot.com/2007/06/stone-mad-sets-summer-opening.html clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 8, 200717 yr I drove through the neighborhood on lunch today, and thought that Battery Park looks really sharp. It was my first time out there. My impression was that the project was a lot larger than it actually was after reading about it so much. Am I missing something? Is it me or does it seem like Marous is building 3 out of every 4 projects in the city? Back in the 80's, the brothers were pounding nails for a living. Now they run a multi-million development and construction company, all without college degrees! What a heck of a story!
August 8, 200717 yr This is a new Irish-named bar on the corner of 65th and Herman. Its been discussed in other threads. Can't think of the name. I met the contractor who did the entire Treehouse project this weekend. He's an Irish guy who's been living in Cleveland for the last 13 years. Said he did everything, including the stonework and ironwork. He also told me that an artist from down Professor made the tree. I guess he also built the 806 Wine Bar, too. Decent guy, but he become pretty irate when I asked him how it was working with Tremont West. He didn't have any great things to say. I don't know if he's also doing Stone Mad. The work looks pretty similar.
August 11, 200717 yr I noticed some continued progress at Battery Park when I went through there today. The foundations are in for the second set of the Gateway Townhomes. And they're was a U-Haul in front of the first set, so I'm assuming that they're already in move-in condition. The first set look like they're all sold (8 or 9 units I think) and the second set had four SOLD signs up on the fence. Pretty impressive progress if you ask me, considering they only began offering those Gateway Townhomes in the spring. The single-family homes on Goodwalt are in the process of being framed too. I can't wait to see what will come next. Sorry, I've got no pictures of my own to post. But for reference, the second picture from Mov2Ohio at the following link are the Gateway Townhomes. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=1684.msg204202#msg204202
August 20, 200717 yr Happy to report that they have started digging our single family home on W 76. The one next to us is sold as well. Of course, with the rain they currently appear to be some very expensive SWAMPS! Does anyone know if there is a thread or any additional information on the Pat Catan's building on W 76? I think it is supposed to being developed into condos called Stone Water but I can't find anything other than some news articles in the Sun newspapers. Thanks!
August 20, 200717 yr I 've been watching for some activity over there, from my 3rd floor deck, but so far nothing. Gravel was being poured into the excavations on 76th today. Hopefully with drier weather they will start pourinf concrete. Jim S.

I think Crain's also had an article about the condo conversion, but of course that was published LONG after the Sun's articles! :-D See... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=1684.msg157461#msg157461 http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=1684.msg157611#msg157611 "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I had seen those articles just wondered if there is any updated news.
August 21, 200717 yr Not that I've heard. But I haven't called the developer in a while to see if there's any updates. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 28, 200717 yr Hi all, The sunrise this morning from our deck at BP. JMJR I notice that the forms for your basement are in place. Bear hugz to all Jim S.
August 28, 200717 yr Sales continue to be brisk (for Cleveland standards). 5 of the 9 second phase gateway townhomes are sold before the framing has even started. The future of this sub-neighborhood will be interesting to follow. Truly, "Greater Battery Park" area stretches from W.76th to W.48th. I think that this area has a real chance to take off in the next decade.

I thought I counted 6 last time I was through the 'hood. But I could be wrong! It's nice to ride/jog through the neighborhood these days and see actual residents moving about, rather than just us development stalkers!

August 29, 200717 yr No, I got a genuine bear hugz when I saw him so he gets a pass this time :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 29, 200717 yr What IS a bear hug? And who's trying to hug a bear? I had a close encounter with a bear in Georgia and the last thing I wanted to do was hug it! I think he felt the same way.
August 29, 200717 yr Do you REALLY want an explanation of the gay "Bear" subculture? Do you want to know why I'm considered an otter? I'll give you all the detail you want! ;-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

August 30, 200717 yr To get back on TOPIC, good news for you JMJR. Your basement walls are in and your condo has been delivered. All the pieces parts are in the fenced off section on W76th st. Bear hug to all. Jim S.
September 2, 200717 yr Hi All, Four new basements on W. 76th st. and all the parts for two of them. One of the two with the black weatherized coating belongs to our own JMJR. Bear hugz to all. Jim S.

Yes!!! We were over there again today taking some photos of our own. We are very excited and looking forward to our move in date. Should be some time first week of November, hopefully sooner rather than later. Ours is the second unit south on W 76 from the lake. Now we just hope the Catans building and the tunnel are right behind in development in the next 5 years.
September 4, 200717 yr My brother lives on 156th north of Lakeshore. There is a very large apartment complex across the street from him that takes up a lot of that space. It would make sense to plant trees to absorb noise around the businesses bordering Battery Park, but for some reason I suspect it will be left as is and the new neighbors will NIMNBY them almost immediately.
