I don't think anyone ever posted this here.  It's from the BP website.  It looks like they've added some animation to their intro page.  Verrry 90s looking if you ask me!

As w28th pointed out in the Random Cleveland thread, Google Maps has been updated for the city with newer and higher res photos.  The previous shot of Battery park was just a leveled lot.  Linked below is the new shot which looks like it was from June:

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41.486652,-81.736119&spn=0.002737,0.003771&t=k&z=18&om=1

As you can see, this photo shows how things are starting to come together with the landscaping and the structures.  Since this image was taken, work has started on several homes on W. 76th (including mine!), all of the townhomes on Goodwalt are near completion, and there is a second set of the "Gateway Townhome" buildings.  Hopefully by the next time this map is updated they will be into Phase 3 or later!

Drove through last night on my way to Reddstone and there are lights on the trees on the main drag - looks very festive!  Looks like a few of the neighbors have put up some holiday decorations too.

FYI... From the folks at Cleveland City Living

_______________

Seasons Greetings!

The 10,000 Little (micro) Ideas to Keep You Believing in Cleveland team would like to cordially invite you to visit their next brainstorming meeting at Battery Park in Cleveland's Detroit Shoreway Neighborhood on the evening of December 13th. The Battery Park  Residential Community has been decorated with over 10,000 holiday lights to welcome you to the gathering. This is an opportunity to join together and collaborate on how we will continue to work to make Cleveland a world-class city moving in to 2008.

The event will begin at 6:30pm with Scott Phillips Jr, founder of Cleveland City Living, offering a brief update on Cleveland's housing market and then introducing our special guest, Chris Ronayne, President of University Circle. We will then give the floor to our guests to have an open discussion on your thoughts of what makes Cleveland a great place to live. At 7:15pm, all attendees have the opportunity to divide into groups and discuss more specific topics derived from our first gathering in March of 2007.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP by clicking here.

Sincerely,

The 10,000 Little (micro) Ideas Team

In conjunction with Cleveland City Living, National City Mortgage will also have staff on hand to answer any questions regarding lending, and specifically their NCHAMP program which is available at Battery Park and other select developments in Cleveland.

Hello all -- haven't been on here in a while.  Too busy moving in to our new place in Battery Park!  We are the first to move in to one of the single families on W 76th.  We are really enjoying the place, working hard at unpacking and organizing.  All went well and we are pleased.  Can't wait for the warmer weather to start enjoying the lake and the green space!  Hoping to see some more progress on the whole development soon.  They are starting on the Power House.  I think it will be a great place!  Didn't know if you all knew it -- a music video was shot around the Power House.

Hope all are well & thanks again to all of you on here who always respond and answer questions and helpd us sort through our decision to move!

Good to see lights on in that area of the hood. Hopefully the rest of the houses on w 76th will soon start being built. Happy New Year to you. Jim S.

^^care to share any pics of the new pad :-D

^^^I've been hearing for the past six months that work was going to start on the powerhouse. Have they actually started yet?

They actually are working in the power house.  My girlfriend and I did the final walk of our house yesterday morning and the project manager said he was running over to the power house at the end because he had five guys over there.  They're primarily working in the underworkings right now, but hopefull we'll start to actually see some work soon.  As far as lights on on W. 76th, we're closing tonight and starting to move this weekend.  I hate moving, but am really looking forward to the new hood.  I'll see if I can take pictures of the interior before we start moving our stuff inside.

Hey -- Happy New Year to you too!  We spend NY Eve on the third floor and watched the fireworks from somewhere off of the deck! When the weather gets better I am sure we will see you outside!

Still decorating, unpacking, and waiting for furniture!

BK -- welcome to the neighborhood!  Good luck moving -- if you are reading this you need to get off your butt and carry a box up the stairs!

Yes, they are working on the Power House.  FYI -- there was some sort of music video filmed over there.  The band is called The Audition and I think they are from Chicago.

Anyway, Power House is getting worked on and it looks like they might start working on the next set of townhouses.

Looking forward to seeing some work start on the tunnel on W 76 and some action on the Pat Catan's building (can't think of the name of the develpment -- Stone Water maybe?)

jrjm, jim s and BK.

Congrats on your new home purchase and I hope your homes not only provided you with shelter and security but bring you with many years of memories and happiness!

Thank you MyTwoSense and jrjm I am on the deck almost every day, if it isn't raining. I love seeing the sun reflecting off of Cleveland's skyline and the lake. A very Happy New Year to you and yours. And as usual warm nuzzles and bear hugz to all.

Jim S.

Welcome to the neighborhood everyone!  Even though I live in a different part of D-S, it's great to know that we're a growing bunch and that people are excited to live here!

Interesting about the music video. The band appears to be one of those post-emo, pop-rock bands. http://www.myspace.com/theaudition. I wonder if it has anything to do with AP magazine. The band sounds like the style they tend to feature in that pub.

Hello all -- first time poking around these forums and there seems to be some great information!

I wanted to reach out to all the Battery Park residents and get their thoughts. Looking to move within the year with my gf and we fell in love with the place and definitely considering Battery Park.

I am coming from the suburbs and just curious what are some of your likes and dislikes about the area.  My main concern is the safety/crime of the area and anything that has disturbed you thus far?  After doing some other searches it seems to be okay, I just wanted the thoughts of actual residents.  Hows the noise in the area?  Build quality?  Are you happy about your decision?  Anything at all you would like to share or any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Welcome Dru.  Where are you moving from?  I would also suggest checking out the Detroit-shoreway threadsas the question you asked has been asked there and you'll probably find out some other great information about the Detriot-Shoreway neighborhood.

Thanks -- I will go check things out over there this week.  I am from Strongsville.  Any thoughts current residents could provide would be greatly appreciated still!

Dru -- Welcome!  We just moved in to the area about 2 months ago.  So far the area is great.  The build quality is good, the builders are flexible with options and so far have been very willing to fix/correct anything that needs adjusted.  We haven't had anything major -- just minor stuff.

Likes -- the diversity of the neighborhood, close proximity and ability to walk to the lake/Edgewater Park.  The restaurants in the area are plentiful and easy to get to.  The West Side Market is close by.  Haven't met many neighbors but I am sure we will.  I spoke with someone from the Detroit Shoreway Development Corporation and the Councilman, Mat Zone, before we made our final decision to move.  I feel pretty confident that the neighborhood is going in the right direction.

Dislikes -- not really a dislike but understand, this is an urban area and is still going through change.  You're going to find traffic and some areas that you may think twice about walking through.  I know that I see a police presence throughout the neighborhood patrolling.  One thing again -- not a dislike -- but we moved from a ranch house into a home with 3 flights of stairs -- took a little getting used to.

Noise level is fine but it may take you a while to get used to the trains that run along the north end of BP.  We are pretty much used to it now.

We really do think this is going to be a great place to be!

Hi Dru,

Welcome to the forum. My partners and I moved in last June. I am retired and have had a great time exploring the neighborhood. I am a native Clevelander and it is great being back in the city, having lived the last 37 years in Lake County. I agree with all that jmjr has said, specially the walkability of the neighborhood. When I first looked into the area I wasn't very thrilled about the proximity of the tracks bit after a couple of weeks here I hardly noticed the trains passing by. Give the place another look. The stairs can be a pain every now and then but the views from our deck is well worth is. Warm nuzzles and bear hugz to all.

Jim S.

Hello Dru. I love this area, and in 2005 was very close to moving into a small bungalow right down the road, in the little Italy.

Unfortunately, crime is still a very real problem near this development. I personally would not have felt comfortable leaving my wife home alone (I was working out of town back then). That was the main reason I chose a similarly priced/sized house in Lakewood instead. Though I believe the house in Detroit-Shoreway would've been a much much better financial investment in the long run.

That area is making lots of progress with new businesses, and there has been a continued change of atmosphere for the positive. Battery Park looks fantastic, and its proximity to Edgewater Park and the views are a tremendous upside.

Scott

Dru,  Councilman Zone lives on West 69th St.  Don't know it that has anything to do with the safety of the neighborhood, but I've not seen a problem in the area north of Detroit Ave.  You need to walk around and talk to the residents to get a real feel for any perceived crime problem.  I own an apartment building on 69th, and allowed my daughter to live there without any reservations.

My impressions of the area are that it feels very safe north of Detroit. Detroit in the 70s feels sketchy. My wife, 2yr old son and I take a lot of walks in the area.

by the way, Stone Mad looks like its very close to opening. It looks amazing. I can't wait to go.

A friend of mine got a job at Stone Mad and the word from the owner is that they're looking to open Mid-Feb. They're planning on having valet available and are looking for applicants to work the valet if I'm not mistaken.

^ Most excellent.  They have to be rather close if they are already hiring staff.  That should give enough time for a quick operations shakedown prior to the St. Patty's Day festivities.  After the parade I know where I'll be.....and within walking distance of home.  :drunk:

they're looking to open Mid-Feb.

so...april-may?

No....it is not good.  While the article mentioned developers who have been millions into the area, it failed to mention the people who have bought into the neighborhood.  If that intersection isn't there at w73rd, the likely hood that the rest of BP is built is severely threatened and that would affect the prices of our homes.  Hopefully the city stays firm with this-- my girlfriend and I have done our part.  Regardless, we still love our new home, but this was supposed to be a done deal when we signed on the dotted line.

I don't think you're alone BK. Battery Park and the surrounding neighborhood have so much to gain with better lake access.  I feel bad for residents that are dependent on the government for fixing this problem.

As a property owner in the neighborhood, I too am disappointed that this may not happen.  That being said, and I may be wrong, Battery Park was planned and started long before the Shoreway project was proposed.  If I am wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me, I'm not trying to start something.

Guys, I was wondering.  What king of Homeowners Association Fees are charged at Batt Park?

^ They are fairly reasonable.  We pay $97/month for one of the seperated townhomes.  Can't speak for the connected ones, but they probably aren't too much more.

I didn't see this article from Scene (I know, I know) posted here.  Did anyone else know that Jason Wright from the Browns bought a place there?

Rebuilding the West Shoreway was already going to take years. Then a bridge collapsed in Minnesota.

From the third-floor window of his angular, Chicago-style walk-up, Jason Wright's view is the kind real-estate fliers are made of. To the east he can see the downtown skyline. To the north, the white-capped waves of Lake Erie. And directly below lies a grid of freshly paved concrete streets, a daily reminder of his investment in what he hopes is an up-and-coming neighborhood: Battery Park.

I hope you guys that live in the area will not accept anything else but the original project.!! It really is amazing what can happen to a neighborhood when there is access to a body of water.  Many of these state workers that work in Columbus must remember who their customers are.  Write letters, organize, do whatever needs to be done to let ODOT know anything less is unaccapetable.

Hi ShakerAtl.  Welcome!

Not sure what you mean buy "not accept anything else but the original project".  Battery Park is being built as planned Correct me if I'm wrong but the "battery park" project and "the shoreway project" are not combined or dependent on one-another in any way.

I'm under the impression that battery park is one development in a reemerging neighborhood and the shoreway project was announced after and used as a marketing tool, stating it would enhance not only battery park but the entire Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood from West 25 to West 98 Street.

If the shoreway isn't reduced I think it could hamper further "large scale" development in the area.

Welcome shakeratl- and yes, I agree.  I really hope Zone and local residents (including the Battery Park buyers) can somehow generate the pressure to keep ODOT in line.  This is really getting ridiculous.

Welcome shakeratl!

MTS - I think Shakeratl's comment about "not accepting anything else but the original project" was in regards to the Shoreway project, not Battery Park.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am relatively certain the talk about the shoreway started in 2002 and Battery Park around 2004.  I do believe the W. 73rd intersection was always part of the deal with Battery Park.  I don't think the scale of the larger buildings would work without the direct access to the Shoreway.  They certainly talked up the conversion quite a bit during the sales process...oh, and while I am on the subject, they did mention numerous times that Jason Wright had purchased a house in the development. ;)  I think I am going to contact Matt Zone and find out who I need to write to at ODOT to let them know how I feel about.  Maybe I can do a flyer and pass it around all the neighboors so they can do the same.  I'll keep you guys updated.

I'm sure both projects were talked about way earlier than those years, especially the Shoreway conversion. I really hope this project works out. If not, it would be such a shame and another example of governmental idiocy.

Sorry to go off-topic (forgive me MayDay in advance), but your icon, jpop, is priceless.  jpop...Delicious.

Hahaha .. thanks, dude. :) I also wanted to include the word "fresh", but it didn't all really fit.

Good plan.  Reach out to Lee Fisher's office as well- he is very pro-Cleveland and holds some serious sway in the governor's mansion.

Shakeratl and BK have the right attitude!  MyTwoSense whats going on with you lately (caffeine deprived we know :|)

It doesn't really matter which was announced first, the impetus for the current success of Battery Park and many of the other projects that have been happening or even still on the drawing board was the shoreway conversion project.  Yes it was used as a marketing tool, as it should have been, since the state had no problem with the idea, and it was as good as happening...  Like BK stated it has been a big reason (selling point) that they bought into Battery Park (and didn't you read the story about Jason Wright above), as is the case with the people that are investing in and opening businesses in Detroit Shoreway (again big selling point).

So I think it is safe to say that a big factor in Battery Park and Detroit Shoreways relatively quick transformation and success is because of the expected future access to the lake that the Shoreway Conversion Project would have created.  So to have the State come back and say.......  based on....... should be unacceptable for the people that have been investing in and moving into this area as well as the city as a whole.

Yeah. I think the city knows that they have a lot riding on this project happening at the moment. It's more ODOT's ball at this point, but the city definitely needs to light the flame as much as possible.

WillyBoy, sorry.  (see new avatar)

I completely agree with your summation.

Community organization can't hurt.  The city seems to be trying its hardest to keep this project rolling, but ODOT may be numb to their demands by now.  A fresh group of voices might be able to more effectively light a fire under their arses.
