The Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Preservation Society's application for ownership of the lighthouse has taken a significant step forward. "Getting sent forward to the U.S. Department of Interior is a huge step - it's like winning the lottery or bingo," said Sandy Bihn, the society's chairman. Once the lighthouse's deed is transferred from the U.S. Coast Guard to the nonprofit organization, the society can more aggressively begin its fund-raising campaign for a lighthouse preservation and renovation project, she said. October 18, 200618 yr From the 10/11/06 Toledo Blade: TOLEDO HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE Preservation group made owners of historic site By ERIKA RAY BLADE STAFF WRITER A nonprofit preservation group that wants to turn the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse into a tourist attraction has been granted ownership of the historic structure about seven miles out on Lake Erie. The Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Preservation Society's application for ownership of the lighthouse has been approved by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, and the deed could be transferred over to the nonprofit organization by the end of this year, said Sandy Bihn, president of the preservation society. October 18, 200618 yr great news. ohio has a lot of cool unique old lighthouses. thankfully today there is a lot of prerservation interest (unlike in the fairly recent past where it was much more of a local struggle to even save them).

Lucas County Recorder Jeanine Perry presented the deed to the Toledo Lighthouse Preservation Society last night during its meeting in the Maumee Bay State Park Lodge. The nonprofit organization’s application for ownership of the lighthouse, located about seven miles out on Lake Erie, was approved in October by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
