Posted July 7, 200618 yr I just love suburbanites, they'll complain about anything.....and usually their points make little to no sense, but yet they still get coverage by this moron publication. But officials didn't put them up to ward off illegal parkers. Instead, homeowners planted them in opposition to Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy's plan to more than double its parking capacity with an off-campus parking lot at the intersection of Snider and Kemper roads.
July 7, 200618 yr A Christian Academy wants to expand parking. I fail to see why this would be a problem. Actually, fewer people would probably be driving around the side streets looking for parking. I wonder how these people would react if they had a real issue in their neighborhood - such as drug dealers, slumlords or Super-WalMarts.
July 7, 200618 yr School officials said they need extra parking because all the student vehicles can't fit on campus, and because drivers are often forced to park on neighborhood streets during ballgames and other school events. God forbid anyone have to park on the street! What will we ever do? Griffith said she also believes the parking lot would be unsafe because students would have to cross busy Kemper Road to get to the high school. Crossing the street = dangerous, but teenagers driving?--perfectly safe.
July 7, 200618 yr Here's a google aerial of the area: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=E+Kemper+Rd+%26+Snider+Rd,+Cincinnati,+OH+45249&ie=UTF8&ll=39.27604,-84.335861&spn=0.001827,0.004748&t=h&om=1 I don't think parking on the street there is a very viable option, at least on the main drags - and there aren't really many side-streets. Ah, the trials of living in the suburbs...
July 7, 200618 yr I saw that article and had to laugh, the parking will bring more congestion? Come on!
July 7, 200618 yr "I take my life in my hands when I turn left out of my driveway." Cars everywhere...what do I do?....I'm scared! This quote is just too funny. I grew up a mile or two away from there and my Mom works at CHCA. Though the school may have a small lot and needs more space, this lady makes it seem like her driveway is off of I-71.

E-mail [email protected] Seriously though, what school doesn't have congestion problems before school starts and after it's let out? The reason this sounds so stupid to me is that Cincinnati Hills Christian school or whatever the hell its called, isn't even that big of a school. Try going to a school of 1500 or more people. OMG they're ruining our pristine utopian village omg omg omg omg omg omg omg!!!!!!!!!! What they should do is charge a monthly fee to use a parking space. That would force students to ride home with their friends...which they should do anyway, to save gas money.

August 3, 200618 yr I love the closing editorial comment to this column... http://www.arcataeye.com/index.php?module=Pagesetter&tid=2&topic=4&func=viewpub&pid=203&format=full Chris Rall: An end to subsidized parking – Aug. 1, 2006 The people of Arcata remember back 10 years ago to 2006 when gas steadily climbed past $3 per gallon and wonder how they ended up saddled with this mess. Few people drive anymore, and yet so much of our land that we need for housing ourselves and growing food is taken up by pavement. Sounds like paranoid fantasy? May I suggest reading up a little on the concept of Peak Oil? With gas going over $3 a gallon for good and parking at HSU set to jump to almost $160 per semester in two years, the twilight of our easy-motoring lifestyle is starting to show a little more clearly. Yet our road infrastructure is over-built even for the amount we use it today. Look around you at most times of day and you see wide empty streets and plentiful parking in most parts of town at most times of day. This is kind of nice for motorists, except the City can’t afford to repave streets. Many back streets and even some major streets are deteriorating rapidly, and the when the city gets around to repaving, it only repaves the middle of the street, leaving the sides to continue crumbling. It has become apparent that we have too much pavement for our own economic good. ......... Chris has been watching the Tour de France on TV and working on a new bathroom while waiting for his thesis back from his advisor.
