I think you're right Map Boy.  There has been a sign on this parcel for a month or so (katty corner to Lucky's) advertising townhomes starting under $200k.  I think they're labeling them as Starkweather Place.

Also, I took a look at the site plan for Tremont Pointe while at Taste of Tremont and the person there told me that they were going to start soon on the for-sale component.  He said that the for-sale component is being developed by someone different than the for-lease component of the project.

right, that would be Tremont West.  McCormick, Baron, Salazar is doing the HOPE VI, rental portion of the project, which is now completely separate.

Ah, missed that in your first post.  Thanks.

More Tremont infill = good stuff!

What's going on with Gospel press. Also, I have noticed that most of Tremont is very nice, but there seems to be some problem properties on Thurman St just north of Starkweather. These kids hang out there and the occasional vehicle will do a drive by on occasion. With residents of Tremont Point moving in soon, and with that being 51% subsidized rental (which seems aweful high to me- I can point to many hope VI projects that are on the brink of failure and reverting back to their world war II ancestors).

Person, do you live in Tremont?

So Phase II consists of one unit?

Person, I don't thinnk anyone asked what would happen in Pittsburgh with this situation, and I don't think anyone really gives a single damn.

No no, May Day. Don't you read what he says? Per Person's posts, Pittsburgh's positively perfect!

Pshaw!

LIES!

This is off the current topic, but I would love to open up a small gourmet grocer in Tremont in one of the small storefronts that are vacant down there. Something along the lines of Dean and Deluca but obviously more local and one-of-a-kind.

That's a great idea.  Are you seriously considering it, or just speculating about what would be nice to see?

I actually think a local twist on Dean & Deluca would be great in the 515 Euclid building on Euclid. It looks like great space, great location, and a lot of visibility.  It would certainly draw a huge lunch crowd, but I would think even breakfast and dinner times would be good too.

Well, I wouldn't say seriously considering it because I don't have the resources at this point. It'd cost quite a bit of money to get all the equipment you'd need for that sort of operation. But maybe in the future... I haven't done any research on it yet.

That would require you to stay in Cleveland of course....?

I agree, Tremont needs some sort of grocery store.  It's "isolated" from the rest of the city and it's unfortunate that such a "hip" community can't walk to a grocery store!  I don't think walking along Abbey is an acceptable alternative-esp. during unfriendly weather.

Keep in mind there's a Circulator that goes through and drops people off in easy walking distance to Dave's (I believe they even have an arrangement where you show your receipt and the ride is free), the West Side Market, and soon (though I won't set foot in there), Wal-Mart at Steelyard Commons. There's also a seasonal farmers market near Luckys Cafe on Starkweather, and several convenient stores (of varying quality/selection). I suppose a full-service grocery might be good but another question is - where would you put it?

I'm fairly certain that they're hoping to renovate Brown's Market over by Lucky's into some kind of organic grocery (in addition to the outdoor farmer's market across the street). Can't remember where I heard that first, but I heard it confirmed by a very reliable source who made it sound like it was fairly definite. Anyone else recall this?

(though I won't set foot in there), Wal-Mart

Could that have anything to do with the fact that they sell Dortmunder 12-packs for an outrageous $14.99 (everyday low prices my arse)?

Walmart has the lowest prices for everything EXCEPT tobacco and alcohol. I've never understood why, but its definately the case.

Maybe because they don't buy the alcohol and tobacco from China, Malaysia or Zimbabwe and don't know how to buy/distribute from domestic suppliers!

Don't get me started on Wal-mart, fellas. Or, as my dad likes to call it, "The Chinese Army Factory Outlet Store". I love that.

Shop at Target instead.

why is target any better?

Target pays their employees a lot more (like 12 bucks an hour I believe..), whereas Wal-mart pays close to minimum wage, especially in the small towns they exploit.

I looked Tremont up on google earth; wow, the place looks really isolated.

Not really. Maybe for walking it is, but it's easy to bike to/from and transit is frequent from Ohio City, the Rapid station and Old Brooklyn.

Visible Voice in Tremont offers bookstore relief

Book some time to stop at Visible Voice during tonight's Tremont art walk.

It's not a gallery, but it is one of the neighborhood's most interesting new spaces -- and Shop Talk's favorite stop during last month's art trek. Crowds buzzed, book lovers browsed, an author signed, and wine and cheese were served with a partylike vibe at the cozy-hip restored home on tree-lined Kenilworth Avenue.

Does anyone have any details on the work that is going on to the old Browns Market down Starkweather from Lucky's, is it going to be a grocer, like suggested?  If so that would be great finally a grocery store that I could walk to.  Also does anyone know how many units are going to be built as part of Starkweather Place, does it involve just the corner where they are currently building?  They are making quite a bit of progress and already have one sold sign in the windows.

There were articles out a while stating that it was going to be a home-made chocolate store - Lilly's or something like that and that the owners were going to live above it.

The most recent neighborhood newsletter said there will be 31 units when completed

That's great.

Now if Keith would just get around to returning my calls/letters/faxes in regard to my security deposit....

Thanks for the info, I hadn't seen that article nice work KJP.  With all that is going on I couldn't be happier that we chose to buy in this neighborhood

Thanks! Enjoy the neighborhood.

Found the following rendering on PURE's website; it looks like new residential development is starting to make into South Tremont. There isn't much info on the site, so I'm not sure if this development is any more extensive than these four townhomes.  I don't know really know this area, but it seems good to see something happening south of 490.

Nothing special in the rendering though...

I'm pretty sure that they are on some land that goes down towards Clark Fields. I believe that the garage issue is due to the constraints of the parcel sizes.

Any word on who is building these?

I might be wrong, but I think that Keith Brown or the other guy at PURE is one of the main principals. I think that the same group is looking at building 5 homes on W.45th St in Ohio (on contiguous, vacant parcels).

Re: design, just... yucko.

Don't you mean Keith Sutton?

Nope, Keith Brown is the founder and president of PURE. I'm not sure if he is the guy involved. It might be Dave Sharkey.

OK. Thanks!

I'm guessing that the Ohio City project is being done by the same guys because the name of the LLC for the OC project is 11th St. Properties (or something like that).
