What a [sad] coincidence... I was just recommending this shop to a co-worker this morning.  She was looking for a messenger/work bag for her hubby and had a hard time finding one in the 'burbs.  I suggested Cleveland Trunk because they have a pretty good selection along these lines (and I'm always plugging Cleveland retailers).  Then I open up Crain's and find it's closing!  I, too, expected to hear the usual Euclid Corridor bashing, but was surprised to find that this was a closing orchestrated by PHS.  It's too bad, really, but I'll wait and see what they've got in store for the space before judging too much.

Legacy Village will get Ohio's first Nordstrom Rack discount store

Ohio's first Nordstrom Rack store is headed for Greater Cleveland.

The Seattle-based clothing chain said today that it plans to open a new "Rack" discount store next fall at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst. It will be Ohio's first.

Marcie Gilmore, general manager of Legacy Village, said the new store, which could open as early as October, will occupy a 40,000-square-foot space inside the former Home Depot Expo, just east of the Urban Active gym. Interior and exterior remodeling at the site is scheduled to begin in May.

Nordstrom Rack is extremely hit or miss, but this is a FANTASTIC addition to this area's retail. I think this only adds to Beachwood's appeal as a destination shopping district.

I was always wondering what they were finally going to stick in that old Expo spot...there was talk of a Wal-Mart for awhile!!!! HA!

Alright folks, here's how it is:

Columbus is well-known for being a test market for various retail brands.

Cleveland has been the first Ohio market to land several upscale stores.

MyTwoSense doesn't visit the forum for a week or two and then decides to use this thread to act out on whatever p!ssyness he's dealing with.

Guess which of those I'm going to allow further discussion of!

Anyone who has a problem with it, send me a PM!

Teavana is already open. They are next to Cheryl & Co. on the lower floor, below the new food court.

very cool

yeah I was in there yesterday and noticed that Teavana was open. Cool little store. I always enjoyed going into the one at Prudential Center in Boston.

There have been a ton of store relocations and closings in the past few months at Beachwood....

Sweet Factory has moved to the Dillard's wing

Hollister is [still] under construction in the old FYE space beside Dillard's on level 1.

It looks like Marciano will be going beside GUESS in the old Bose space...this would make sense since it is owned and operated by Guess Inc named after Guess's CEO Paul Marciano.

Saks has redone the layout of their men's sportswear area and now includes many more watches, jeans, and casual clothing.

Posh has seemingly left Beachwood Place altogether...

GNC has moved to the Nordstrom wing.

True Religion is now open in the Saks wing...incredible selection of jeans in there in every fit, wash, style, and size.

Fossil is under construction.

Express has moved into the Saks wing, level 1.

BCBG has moved into the Saks wing, level 2.

BCBG and Express both have moved several times.  geez

Well I don't think they've (express) moved in about 6 years. Must have been bored.

I'm speaking overall, since the mall's opening.

Cleveland & Beyond has closed their location in the Old Arcade - they still have the Tower City store; sounds like they're reconfiguring their business plan.

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?! That's my favorite store in the entire city.

I talked to the owner of Cleveland & Beyond - although it's sad to see them leave the Arcade, it's a really good move for the business - more space, better visibility, consolidated location.  I love them.

^I thought they were just in that little cramped space in TC over by the convention and visitors bureau?  Are they moving into a different space at TC?

They're going into the spot where Body Shop was.

1.  I no longer feel that bad

2. That is a real coup for TC

^ And in regards to TC, it was very interesting to hear from Cleveland & Beyond all the wonderful things that they had to say about TC (good rate, painted the store for them, et cetera) and the poor commentary on the Arcade management.

I never saw many people in their arcade store, including me. I went there a couple of times, but most times I'm downtown (evenings) the arcade stores aren't open.

It's all about the experience at AT&T's redone Mentor storePosted by Shaheen Samavati May 14, 2008 19:12PM

Employees of the AT&T Experience Store in Mentor, from left, Brian Kuhlmann, Rosie Estrella and Ian Miller, learn how to use the Tilt, an AT&T-branded smart phone made by HTC that all employees carry to communicate with each other. They were preparing for Thursday's opening of the Mentor store, which is the company's first Experience store in Ohio. AT&T wants you to do more than see its phone, Internet and television services. It wants you to experience them.

Cleveland & Beyond is now open as "The Cleveland Store" (because when customers were on the phone while shopping, they'd often say "oh, I'm at the Cleveland store...") - next to National City's Tower City Center branch.

I'm hoping to have a book signing in time for Fathers Day; they also said that they're doing more sales before lunch then they used to do all day at the Arcade!

maybe it's a good thing all those stores closed...

I'm posting these for sh!ts and giggles - I visited my folks and went through some boxes of old stuff. Lo and behold, a brochure from the Galleria, circa 1987!

Here are some "highlights" - check out the clothes and the "world-class verbiage"

Wow, this describes me perfectly, wish I could shop there: "Relaxed and unpretentious, yet jauntily in style. Disarmingly lighthearted.  Dashingly exuberant."

LAWD...I feel so "dated".  Jackets with shoulderpads AND high waist, baggy jeans...soooooooooooooooooo 80's!

More Galleria memories:

I like the Galleria, especially when it's raining and you're sitting under the glass roof.  I get the same lunch every day (the veggie/white rice dish from the Japanese restaurant for $2.59) and I'm predicting more retail once people start moving into those nearby condos and townhomes being built.  And that's assuming there are any vacanies in the building (which may not even be the case presently)

Bookstore on West 25th prepares for its final chapter

Luna, the cat, has been a permanent fixture around the West 25th Street bookstore owned by Mike O'Brien.

Unlike the longhaired cat that lives among the aging titles in the Bookstore on West 25th, the dusty, cluttered shop near the West Side Market will have only two lives.

^What a sad piece of news... and a strangely written article.

I'm a big book reader but I never liked that shop. I'd prefer a place like Visible Voice in Tremont.... Or Half Priced Books. That place rocks lol

^I prefer places where the owner has a passion for what they do, an odd quirkiness with how they do it, but STILL manage to 1. acknowledge that someone who could help them pay rent walked in the door, 2. realize their customers may not have all day to sort through their cluttered helter-skelter store, and 3. set aside whatever issues they have and not scowl at customers who interrupt their reading session or look down their nose at someone who doesn't look as crunchy-bookish as they'd like. Sorry, it's unfortunate but hardly a surprise.

A quote from the article: "We have this mythological belief that these types of bookstores are necessary," O'Brien said. "But if people aren't putting down their dollars, we don't exist." Well folks, it's not just the customers responsibility to keep a store open, but I guess it's a lot easier to blame them for its demise.

^ Totally agree, Mayday. Independent stores thrive because they can better connect with customers. Last week I went with my parents to Room Service in the Detroit Shoreway and the owner came up and started talking with us about some other events and other things. You need to make people feel welcome!

It seems like this bookstore in particular was a bit "quirky". It's unfortunate that people were turned off by their apparent lack of customer service.

That mall seems to be going more and more upscale, not that Martin + osa neccesarily makes it more upscale. I wish it were bigger, or better yet spread out along lower Euclid.

They can keep some of that crap in Beachwood.

I just want FLAGSHIP stores on Euclid!  Martin + Osa or American Eagle isn't a place where I shop, but they would bring kids from the area into downtown instead of taking them to beachwood.
