July 19, 201410 yr The old blockbuster building by eton all tore down now for the bonefish grille and carrabbas so we have heard
July 22, 201410 yr Based on an interview on Cleveland.com today from some at Stark Enterprises, the Crocker Park expansion will include the following (some of which previously announced): Michael Kors, Sur La Table, Bonefish Grill, Homage, Texas de Brazil, Yard House, lucy Activewear, LUSH and Teavana
July 23, 201410 yr I'm excited about the Sur La Table, they often have cooking-related events I'd like to attend but it's way too far E for me. That's where I met Tony Bourdain.
July 23, 201410 yr Crocker Park is too far east? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 23, 201410 yr So as has been clear since CP opened they are building Beachwood Place West essentially. Only missing department stores now.
July 26, 201410 yr Crocker Park - the rumor on this board last Summer was that an upscale department "not currently in Ohio" would be opening a store... If true - and if the more upscale types (that would prefer east side based on other retailers' presence - and demographics) are ruled out, the belief was Lord and Taylor might fit the description... We'll see...
July 26, 201410 yr Lord & Taylor? I'm not clear are you saying L&T is upscale? It's not! It's a mid market department store.
July 26, 201410 yr "upscale" is a term that's overused and diluted versus what it originally meant, I'm sure. I certainly wasn't implying Lord & Taylor is "luxury"... But in developer speak, Crocker Park is considered "upscale" for the average consumer... (of which, it's been established MTS is not...)
July 30, 201410 yr Ok was in Toronto at Yorkdale and please tell me the infatuation with Zara, was not impressed, maybe it was just the Toronto store, I did not go in the Zara Home Store, Zara was enough.
July 30, 201410 yr ^Agreed. We have Zara all over here in LA. It is cheaply made and cheap looking junk, overall. I don't understand the people on this board who drool over Zara. It has no prestige, and is not well made or designed.
July 30, 201410 yr Zara offers a very particular style, and it's clearly not for everyone. But for people who are inclined toward that style, there's just not another great proxy (I'd say it's probably somewhere between our local offerings of Calvin Klein and J. Crew), they do a VERY good job of offering stuff with smaller, structured fits without being skin tight ... As a 5'7, 135 lb man, I find it incredibly hard to find menswear that even remotely fits me in the Cleveland market; I swim in J. Crew and Banana Republic clothes, and Express can only take you so far! If there was a zara in Cleveland, I would probably be wearing it everyday :) I think greater Cleveland is just a place with pretty limited menswear offerings overall, and that probably contributes to our drooling ... All the choices of LA or Toronto, and maybe Zara wouldn't hold the same appeal.

They have a trim/slim fit that works well for my husband, and they're not terribly expensive. Also, if you're not opposed to donning the Polo horsie, the Polo Custom Fit shirts (that can be purchased at their outlet stores as well) are more slimly cut.
July 30, 201410 yr ^Topshop within Nordstrom also has slim fitting selections at an inexpensive pricepoint.

My best clothing investments have been with Burberry and Theory (at Saks), but for less expensive option, Topman at Nordstrom is great. Still good quality at a fraction of the price

July 31, 201410 yr this is the perfect reason why ive said it would be great if cleveland got a uniqlo. it could happen they are expanding in the usa now. the cut of the clothes fit because...japanese! http://www.uniqlo.com/us/men.html

July 31, 201410 yr Sign up this morning on construction fence of the Stark-owned demolished Blockbuster building at Chagrin and Brainard, just west of Eton and Alson, saying "Now Leasing prime corner of the Chagrin Boulevard retail, dining and shopping district..." No mention of "Eton" even though it is the continuation.. Graphic is drawing of shoppers on a Crocker-like street... May simply be stock image rather than rendering... Also, I have seen Bonefish and Carabba's zoming plans from 2014 for this entire so don't know if plans fell through, if they have changed, or if it is a "prime corner" teaser to simply lease other parts of Eton. Know that Texas de Brazil opening at Eton in 2015, that Stark has published 2014 ads with Eton 60K sf expansion, and Woodmere website from July says expansion happening... So confused by lack of "Eton" in prime corner pitch...

August 1, 201410 yr Stop everything. Our retail prayers have been answered. "Creative Tees is NOW OPEN @ShopTowerCity next to Victoria Secret. Finally, a new t-shirt shop that does airbrush!!! pic.twitter.com/pcDIYJj3FX" Finally!
August 5, 201410 yr A manager at Heinens's apparently confirmed today that Heinen's has signed a letter of intent to take over the recently vacated, smallish (28K) former Giant Eagle space in downtown Chagrin Falls. The thought is it would become their "Village Market" concept, as in Hudson (the perfect grocery store in size and fresh/gourmet offerings). So, if true, this is an interesting move on the part of Heinen's, which had basically said there were no more growth opportunities in CLE... and especially interesting given that two large Heinen's stores are located 5 and 10 minutes away already, at 306/Washington and Lander Circle. If true, will likely cannibalize some existing Heinen's biz at the nearby stores, but would seem to be a wise strategic move to stave off another retailer like Fresh Market from establsing an east suburban foothold and taking biz from Heinen's Hopefully, true, as I live about 1/4 mile up Main Street, and this is welcome news.
August 5, 201410 yr Are there any other Fresh Markets planned for NE ohio other than the one already here in Shaker???

August 12, 201410 yr Pinecrest update http://www.cleveland.com/chagrin-valley/index.ssf/2014/08/pinecrest_development_attracts.html But no stores noted yet
August 14, 201410 yr Further Pinecrest (Orange Village) update in Chagrin Valley Times today.. the signed or close-to-it retailers/restaurants the developers seem to be hinting at in the story are: "gourmet style grocery store and farmers market" - the "farmers market" of which seems to tip it off as potentially: Fresh Thyme - http://freshthyme.com/ - recently opened in Columbus - and expanding. "a high-profile home goods store" - this would hint at (on top of other clues) - Container Store would be main thought based on past rumors "an outdoor recreation store" (that is noted to have "boating, kayaking and features a rock climbing wall") - REI immediately comes to mind, but they are pictured on the Beachwood Place renderings, so who knows - but almost certain they are coming soon, somewhere.. Field & Stream, the new Dick's concept is possible (no rock climbing it appears) and Cabela's or Bass Pro have both looked in area - but they are huge destination stores and that fact was not telegraphed by the developer in the story, as it likely would be. They'd dwarf the rest of complex. "a 25,000 square foot, nationally based Italian restaurant with bocce courts"... - well, the size is what is suspect here... No Italian restaurant is that big (the hugeBeachwood Maggiano's - including huge banquet area - is 18,000ish square feet) - In doing some searching, I found this - www.pinstripes.com ("Bowling, Bocce, Bistro) - which is Midwest based and going national. Large bowling alley/entertainment complex with Italian food and bocce courts... Hmmmm... Perhaps "bowling" not noted to not tip hand... These mentioned uses are too numerous or vague to define operators yet - "upscale burger joint" and "dine-in movie theater" "European-style hotel" (from owners of 78 European hotels, none in U.S.).
August 20, 201410 yr Upscale Burger joint? What about a Bobby's Burger Palace? I doubt it just because I don't think Flay would go head to head with his buddy, Michael Symon. Would be really cool though. Upscale burger joint can really mean anything these days since there's so many out there franchising. In other news, I'm not sure if this is considered "retail" but Tesla is building a service center at the former Infiniti dealer on Mayfield in Lyndhurst. I'd have to think a dealership isn't that far behind.
September 11, 201410 yr Second bank to close in the area. Why? And what is Cudell Improvement Inc. doing to keep business in the neighborhood, let alone bring in more? Unfortunately the Edgewater Clifton branch is toast. Unfortunately the Edgewater Clifton branch is toast. RT @NHSCleveland: PNC is closing two more local branches http://t.co/qBGu6lM8HO I dislike PNC because of the way they used politics to absorb National City, but their rationale is 100% correct. How often do people physically go to the bank anymore, especially if you don’t count the drive-thru?
September 16, 201410 yr Still can't believe there is no more definitive store details about the Beachwood expansion, the Eton corner expansion, and the Pinecrest development yet. Anyone with any new info???
September 16, 201410 yr Boycott Urban Outfitters! That blood-stained Kent State marketing move using the killing of students peacefully protesting is really tasteless.
September 16, 201410 yr Boycott Urban Outfitters! That blood-stained Kent State marketing move using the killing of students peacefully protesting is really tasteless. I saw shirts on the same theme, yet more explicit, at Halloween parties during the late 80s. In Kent. Though certainly the most clever was the student(?) who had a bandaged up hand already(?), wore hippie clothes, and said he was Alan Canfora (who I got along with, but disliked for personal reasons having to do with his hitting on my girlfriend).

November 7, 201410 yr Can downtown Cleveland's residential growth bring more retail attention to center city? CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Apartments in downtown Cleveland are 95 percent full. The office market is lumbering along, helped by the recent spate of workplace-to-living-space revamps of older buildings. Retail downtown, though, is a brainteaser. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/11/can_downtown_clevelands_reside.html#incart_river

November 16, 201410 yr Yellowcake to close storefront in Gordon Square http://www.cleveland.com/kristel/index.ssf/2014/11/yellowcake_to_close_storefront.html A bummer, but not a huge surprise. Always seemed like a long shot a shop like this would continue to make sense outside of a bigger retail cluster. Hopefully we'll see an actual fashion cluster develop someday (Tremont? Downtown?). There are a couple indy women's clothing stores in Tremont already, no?
November 20, 201410 yr Cleveland Scene @Cleveland_Scene 2m2 minutes ago Joe Haden to Open Shoe Store in Downtown Cleveland via @AlainaMcConnell http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2014/11/20/joe-haden-to-open-shoe-store-in-downtown-cleveland … @joehaden23 "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 29, 201410 yr Beachwood Place: Long-time tenant Mann Jewelers is closing at Beachwood Place (closing sale now, ending after 1st of year) and apparently moving to a shopping strip at SOM/Chagrin in or near the plaza with Flour/ML Tavern in it. New True Religion store has recently opened, doubling former store size. Expansion at mall will start in Spring, sized down from 77k square feet to 64k square feet on Richmond side between Saks and Nordstrom) and from 3 restaurants to 2 (Capital Grille and Seasons 52) in front of mall on Cedar.
