June 26, 20204 yr ^ yeah, it is sad, but with retail so in flux now and with brooks troubles i guess its not unexpected. i dk what is going to become of beautiful mall settings like tc. how can management possibly even make any plans for the future these days? i hope blockland comes thru as that would bring a lot of activity and probably help guide retail redevelopment in tc a lot.
June 26, 20204 yr Microsoft also announced today they will be closing all of their physical stores except for flagship experience destinations in Seattle, NYC, and London. That means an empty storefront in Beachwood Place.
June 27, 20204 yr I heard a rumor a couple days ago that Nighttown in Cleveland Heights is closing permanently. I feel like that doesn't make any sense in light of recent comments the owner has made about the nearby Top of the Hill development. But the rumor came from someone who is pretty well connected in real estate circles and that I would think might know... Anybody able to rule this out? It would be a huge loss.

Also heard they opened more out of a sense of civic duty to Cleveland. They weren’t making money on that store at all and the looting cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Beachwood is in a transition period, before that shooting. It just isn't going to be the mall it once was ESPECIALLY with Pinecrest stealing its thunder. I commend them for filling their storefronts that have recently become empty so quickly though.
July 19, 20204 yr Not sure if its still happening, or long term ams, but earlier this week, for at least for a few days, Saks was closed off to the mall at Beachwood. You could only enter from outside into store. For virus or other..... not a good look.

Apparel is in a very tough spot right now and Geigers was always a weird fit, being basically an outdoor pursuits clothier in an urban downtown. Even people like Filson have a hard time making money in such locations. My hovercraft is full of eels
July 19, 20204 yr I was just at Beachwood Place today. The number of people there seemed about how it was pre-covid, and thankfully just about everyone was wearing a mask (I only noticed one person in Nordstrom that was maskless, though the people he was with had them). The new Carters-Oshkosh store looks to be just about complete. The temporary facade was removed and you could see they were arranging the shelves inside. The other new stores still had the temporary "coming soon" plywood up, so couldn't tell what kind of work was going on. New York and Co was the only store I saw any closing signs for, though I wasn't down the Dillard's wing very far. Saks did still have all but one entrance closed, but they weren't the only store doing that. Zara also had only one entrance open, and all of the stores were limiting occupancy. I just wish Saks had an interior entrance open instead of making people walk around. I agree with the statement above that Beachwood Place is transitioning. I think we will be seeing more of a mix of upscale and midrange stores now, as the upscale market continues to be spread out between Eton and now Pinecrest. I think they will still be a strong shopping center and a regional draw, just not exactly what it was was before. Beachwood Place is far from dead though.

I've detailed before, but the # of chains that have left Legacy after all or most stores closed natinally probably averages more than 1 a year since its 2003 launch. Talbot's Men's and Kids, Bombay/Bombay Kids, EXPO, Joseph-Beth, Charming Charlie, Viking Store, Sigrid Olsen, Stir Crazy are just some past tenants that are essentially no longer in biz with stores... there are many more.

I have a lingering concern that they aren't going to reopen, although I'm not basing that on any actual information.

August 19, 20204 yr Driving through downtown Chagrin Falls it looks like the triangle has taken some retail hits, a couple pretty large. Joseph Banks is gone as well as the large candy/card/gift shop on the other side of the street. Also the Chagrin Cake Shop is no more.
