POTTERSBURG, Ohio — She creaked and groaned and swayed just a bit, but the old bridge stood strong.

 

She stayed together — all 60 tons of her — despite man and machine pushing and pulling from all sides. When you’ve withstood the elements since 1870, a little nudge or two from a bulldozer and a winch is nothing.

New bridge a hit during 25th festival

Hundreds of ladybugs whizzed through the wooden beams of the Smolen-Gulf Bridge Sunday, enjoying the sunshine and warm weather with thousands of people in the final day of the 25th annual Ashtabula County Covered Bridge Festival.

JEFFERSON — The 70-degree temperatures along with the colorful fall foliage provided a beautiful backdrop as the county’s festival season draws to a close.

 

Hundreds of people ventured outdoors Saturday to take advantage of the warm October weather, and what better place to do so than at the 25th annual Ashtabula County Covered Bridge Festival. The festival is being held at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds as well as many of the county’s covered bridges.

GENEVA — The nation’s shortest covered bridge will come at an engineering bargain, and the city’s plan to move the Civil War Monument is under way, Geneva City Manager Jim Pearson said.
