September 20, 20213 yr well apparantly these trendy immersive van gogh affairs are doing booming business! per hyperallergic blog: Kriston Capps has a lot to say about the scourge of immersive exhibitions, particularly the van Gogh ones popularized by the terrible TV show Emily in Paris: Big Van Gogh has emerged as a multi-million-dollar live event opportunity, perhaps one of the true entertainment industry success stories of the pandemic era. New players rushed to elbow their way into the few remaining cities that didn’t have a Van Gogh planned this year, as established Impressionism impresarios look ahead to the next big splash. And while some consumers have complained about copycats in cities such as Boston and New York, where dueling Van Gogh rooms have gone head-to-head, the producers of these shows have nevertheless sold millions of tickets, with prices ranging from $20 to $70 or more a pop. “We just passed 3.2 million tickets sold, which, as I understand it, makes it the most successful attraction in the world on Ticketmaster,” says Corey Ross, president of Toronto-based Lighthouse Immersive and one of the producers behind “Immersive Van Gogh,” which has opened exhibits in New York, San Francisco, Houston and 16 other cities in the U.S. (plus Toronto and Dubai). “Immersive Van Gogh” is not responsible for the show that opened in D.C. in August. That’s “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience,” which has also set up shop in New York, Houston and other cities. Not to be confused with “Imagine Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibition,” coming soon to Seattle and Boston, or “Van Gogh Alive,” the version on view in Denver and Indianapolis and coming soon to Kansas City, Missouri. Got that?
October 8, 20213 yr The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Turns the Spotlight on Cleveland's Music Scene https://www.wksu.org/shuffle/2021-10-07/the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-turns-the-spotlight-on-clevelands-music-scene I like this effort by the rock hall, but I feel like it's still kind of out of touch... I get why you would partner with Goodyear, they're local and have the cash to throw around, but Dr Z amps are made in Cleveland and used by artists like Brad Paisley. Down the road in Akron you have Earthquaker Devices which is part of the national boutique pedal scene. If there are some other local music companies I'm missing I'm sure the folks here will fill in the gaps, but that's also overlooking all of the local music shops in town that could've been a part of it. It may have been a bit more work for a slightly smaller return, but it would have felt more grassroots and local; and would have tied together and strengthened all parts of the Cleveland music community.

January 24, 20223 yr Cleveland's first Pierogi Week aims at getting people out to eat, drink Sponsors of Cleveland's first Pierogi Week hope people will embrace one of the city's quintessential foods — and begin to eat out again after the latest surge in nearly two years of the Covid pandemic. Cleveland Pierogi Week, sponsored by Market Garden Brewery and the Cleveland Scene newspaper, starts Feb. 28 and ends March 6, according to the sponsors' press release. During the week, pierogi lovers will have opportunities to visit participating locations to buy a minimum of three pierogi for $7. Add a beer at Market Garden for an additional $5. I'm talking as a place name---not that people in Waite Hill want to drive and hang out in CLE proper. Just the name and identity of the full area. You could say "Greater Cleveland" instead of "Cleveland" if that makes you feel better!

February 8, 20223 yr this came to me on a brooklynvegan musc news email: After cancelling all their 2021 shows due to Covid, Nine Inch Nails have now announced 2022 tour dates, including two nights at Red Rocks, Berkeley's Greek Theatre, festivals stops at Atlanta's Shaky Knees and Primavera Sound LA, and more. The last show on their current schedule is at Cleveland's Blossom Music Center on September 24 which has a cool, very 1990 undercard with Ministry and Nitzer Ebb also on the bill.

June 18, 20222 yr Cleveland History Days | Canalway Partners Founded on the shores of Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River, Cleveland’s growth as a major American city was fueled and influenced by the many immigrant groups that settled here. It is a city that emerged from the Gilded Age as a leader in policy and programs, building not only a great city but also a greater civilization with a vibrant culture. Cleveland History Days (CHD) is an annual celebration of our city’s rich legacy. Created in 2018 by Tim Donovan and Tom Yablonsky, the inaugural year featured 32 programs over ten days. Since then, the celebration has grown to comprise 27 organizations offering nearly 40 spectacular programs and events. From Friday, June 24 to Sunday, July 3, visitors can take tours, listen to lectures, and marvel at the major contributions that have brought us to where we are today, including: The people: industry magnates, civic leaders, immigrant workers, artists, architects and engineers; The infrastructure they designed, built and used to make this city great; The influence Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River had on all of the above. This year’s CHD was made possible by the financial support of several organizations and individuals from the community.
