Celebrating the Late Artist, “Against Gravity: Remembering John Jackson” Opens Friday at the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve

“I view cities, for better or worse, as the locus of the culture”

By Shawn Mishak on Wed, Jan 25, 2023

In 2006, sculptor John Conway Jackson and photographer Masumi Hayashi were tragically murdered on the west side of Cleveland.

The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve will be honoring the memory of Jackson with "Against Gravity," an exhibition of his work opening this Friday with a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Described as a “cerebral and experimental” artist, Jackson was known for his assemblage sculptures and modernist paintings and drawings. His work was said to “tap into the subconscious.” The exhibition includes 30 works, including two large mixed media creations which will be suspended from the ceiling with chains.

It looks like Willie told his manager and agent that he would only do 3 weeks of touring, with a break built in, and no long drives.    Much easier to pull off on the east coast.

Also Gilford NH draws from the Boston market.

Willie will be 90 next month.

Too bad it isn’t with The Bad Seeds, but I’m still excited for it.

My hovercraft is full of eels

^ yeah i just signed up —  and funny enough i bought tix to see ween in sept this morning too.

i think solo is even better because you get intimate nick instead of noisey nick.

also, i have seen him with his bands before, but never solo. i had chances but never bit until now. i have watched a few things on youtube, like this show w/warren ellis from last year that i didnt go to:

Yeah, I’ve never seen him solo before, so it’s going to be new for me too. The Bad Seeds though IMO are simply the greatest backing band ever, how they go from light to dark, soft to loud, melody to cacophony on a dime is just incredible. They’re Cleveland Orchestra-level when it comes to painting sound. I must’ve seen them over a dozen times over the years, both in the UK and here, the last few times at the Detroit Masonic Temple, which is as close to Cleveland as they’ve got for the last 10+ years. The best gig I’ve seen them play though was back in 2008 at the MSG theater in NYC on the ‘Dig Lazarus Dig’ tour.
I really wanted to see the Warren Ellis shows, but the closest it came to here was Toronto and I couldn’t make the time to make the trip.

My hovercraft is full of eels

^ definitely agree bad seeds nick is best nick, although i would have loved to have seen punky young nick and birthday party. ha.

i’ve loved them forever, but only seen them only a couple times over the years, including once in ohio back in cols at lollapalooza.

also, we’re going down under this fall, so i’ll be sure to plot out his old melbourne haunts.

Well, I got my access code and got into the PHS website at 10.01 and Nick Cave is sold out already. WTF.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band made a grand return to MSG (video, setlist)

Published: April 3, 2023

UPDATE: Here are pictures, video, and setlist from Barclays Center on Monday night (4/3).

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band made their grand return to Madison Square Garden on Saturday (4/1), playing a typically sprawling 27-song, three-hour-long set. This is the band's first tour since 2016, having kicked off in Tampa, FL, in February. The sold-out MSG show hit a number of emotional highs, kicking off with "No Surrender" and "Ghosts," and later paying respect to 9/11 firefighters and first responders with beloved "The Rising."

blink-182 -- 2023/2024 Tour Dates

*With Support from Turnstile

May 16 – Cleveland, OH – Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse*

After making their return to the stage at Coachella weekends one and two, blink-182 began their first proper headlining tour with the classic lineup of Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barkersince 2014 at St. Paul, MN's Xcel Energy Center last night (5/4). Turnstile opened, as they will on all North American dates.

They played a lot of the same songs they played at Coachella, but opened with "Anthem Part Two" this time, and they also played a couple from their last album with Tom, 2011's underrated Neighborhoods("Up All Night" and "Ghost on the Dancefloor," the latter of which they hadn't played at all since Tom left), and they did two songs from the Matt Skiba era ("Bored to Death" and "Cynical"). They also did "Adam's Song" for the first time with Tom since 2009.

Meanwhile, Turnstile (with new touring guitarist Maegan Brooks of Big Cheese and Chubby and the Gang, and a collaborator of Fucked Up, in place of Take Offense's Greg Cerwonka who joined after original guitarist Brady Ebert's departure) played 10 of the 15 songs from their breakthrough 2021 album Glow On, and two from its 2018 predecessor Time & Space ("Real Thing" and "Big Smile"). Check out videos and setlists from both bands' sets below.

Major changes coming for Tennis in the Land tournament in Cleveland

...Snip "Now, tournament director Kyle Ross said, organizers are consolidating the venue, putting the courts together and allowing non-paying public in for the fan fest. The changes will set the foundation for the tournament to embark on a new era, he said.

“We liked what we did over the past few years, in terms of launching this event and giving it life and doing what we had to do through the pandemic, but it wasn’t the ideal tennis venue,” Ross said. “And I think that starts with having it all together. This way, people can walk from one court to the other, to food, back to a new match court. You can hear a roar from an adjacent court and can leave your seat and walk to it and see what’s going on. Previously, the tournament didn’t quite have that dynamic of proximity of having one consolidated venue.”...Snip
