Weird Al announces "Bigger & Weirder" 2025 tour w/ Puddles Pity Party

After a couple of more scaled down tours featuring his original songs, Weird Al Yankovic has announced his first full-scale, parody-filled, big stage tour in six years. He’s promising multiple costume changes, his giant video wall, and an eight-piece band who will help him play the hits and some songs that have never been performed live before. “This is kind of a ‘best of both worlds’ tour,” he says. “We’ll be doing all the big crowd-pleasing parodies as well as some deep cuts for the hardcore fans – but with twice as many players on stage, everything is going to sound twice as good!” Sad clown Puddles Pity Party will open the shows, which begin with a weeklong residency at The Venetian in Las Vegas in June before heading across North America, running through September.

Barry Manilow to perform his ‘final show’ in Cleveland in 2025

Updated: Dec. 17, 2024

By Malcolm X Abram, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Any fans of entertainer Barry Manilow who missed is 2015 “One Last Time” tour or his more recent “last show” in Cleveland on his aptly titled “Hits! 2023″ final tour, can rejoice as they will have one more time to bask in the Manilow glow.

The 81-year-old Grammy, Tony and Emmy-winning singer-songwriter-producer has declared that his upcoming show on Thursday, June 5, at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will not only be his last show in Cleveland but the Last Show of his storied half-century-plus performing career.

Alt-rock vets Smoking Popes are releasing new protest single “Allegiance” on January 6, and it features vocals from Local H‘s Scott Lucas. “Two days after the election, I was filled with anger and disgust over the result, so I picked up a guitar and poured some of those feelings into a song, which turned into this two-and-a-half-minute punk protest tune,” says Smoking Popes frontman Josh Caterer. “It was written and recorded really quickly and we wanted to release it as soon as possible because it speaks to this moment we’re living in. And we’re excited that Scott was able to be part of it. He’s such a great singer…I think having his voice in there adds to the urgency of the message.”

Josh also tells us, “Based on what we’ve seen from Trump so far, there’s every reason to expect an all-out assault on democracy from him in the next few years, and it would be easy to feel hopeless about that, to just give up, but I’m confident that people will fight back. I don’t know what shape the resistance will take, but I think it starts with just lifting your voice and saying ‘No!’ to what’s happening. That’s a freedom we still have in this country and that’s what this song is trying to do.”

“Allegiance” is out on Monday.

Meanwhile, Smoking Popes also have a new album on the way, titled Lovely Stuff and out in March. (“Allegiance” is not on it.) They’re also on tour starting in February, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album Born To Quit.

wtf? what kind of BS is this? The Fairport Mardi Gras is ending after 85 years?? This is sacrilege!

"The committee also mentioned some of the reasons why it became increasingly difficult to plan and carry out the festival in recent years. One of the biggest problems for the committee was finding companies to provide and operate traditional amusement rides at the festival

Fairport Mardi Gras festivals typically lasted four or five days and featured mechanical amusement rides, live music, an array of food stands, a parade and a fireworks display. The celebration usually took place around Fourth of July weekend.

The committee also noted that its members — who are all volunteers — performed their duties over the last few years “through Canadian wildfires with toxic air, beach erosion at our fireworks location, COVID, unethical entertainment companies, utilities issues, rides literally washing into the lake and keyboard warriors (who complained on Facebook about Mardi Gras).” In the midst of these hardships, the committee’s roster of volunteers dwindled “to just the most dedicated and determined to see Mardi Gras survive."

How a Lorain Church Became a Must-See DIY Music Venue and a Beacon of Hope

Meet the altruistic young guns hellbent on making the Rust Belt town a cultural epicenter and building community in the process

By Lizzie Manno on Wed, Jan 29, 2025

These genre-spanning bills that mix touring acts from around the country and the world, plus interesting local artists, are sorely needed in Lorain, but are even intriguing for those who make the drive from Cleveland, as the city still gets passed over for tours on occasion—especially experimental shows, though New Ghosts and Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project(CUSP) have made great strides in recent years. With only a dozen or so Church of the Redeemer shows under his belt, Konieczny has accomplished a lot. Among other acts, he’s hosted Leah Senior, an Australian folk singer-songwriter who’s previously performed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which brought fans from Chicago to Lorain just for the show; Tatsuya Nakatani, the Japanese master percussionist who’s been touring since the '90s; and Lia Kohl with Whitney Johnson (Matchess, Winged Wheel), two of the most exciting figures of the American contemporary experimental scene
