‘Lost & Found in Cleveland’ sets CIFF attendance record

  • The independent dramedy drew nearly 2,500 people to its Midwest premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival on Sunday.
  • That set a record for the largest single screening in CIFF history and also marked the largest audience for a film at Playhouse Square since the Playhouse Square Foundation was founded in 1973.
  • “We’re trying to change the narrative nationally in theaters with audiences so that they see Cleveland in a different light than what they’ve been fed,” Gerchak added. “But it’s also an opportunity for us to have Clevelanders see themselves.”
  • Sunday’s nearly sold-out screening was the only opportunity to see “Lost & Found in Cleveland” at CIFF49. But at a post-screening Q&A, the filmmakers hinted at wider distribution of the film coming soon.

Anthony Green (of Circa Survive, L.S. Dunes, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and more) has announced So Long, Avalon, a reworking of his 2008 debut solo album Avalon. The album was produced and mixed by Anthony’s longtime collaborator Keith Goodwin (of Good Old War and Days Away), and according to the album description, it “revisits the original songs with new ideas and approaches, shaped by 20 years of live performances, to capture the life they’ve taken on over time.”

weird cle venue choice, but don’t miss this — per bv:

I caught Air at Beacon Theatre last year and I wrote: “This is the most transfixing, transportive, spectacular, fully realized show — both sight and sound — I have seen since Massive Attack’s Mezzanine XXI tour in 2019. That box they play in, perhaps a nod to the artwork of 10,000 Hz Legend, really does seem like magic and made for what seemed like a nonstop parade of holy s**t moments for me.”

James will be back in North America this fall for their first headline tour here in 15 years. (They’ve done a few co-headline tours, though, most recently with Johnny Marr and Psychedelic Furs.) For it, they’ll be playing their 1993 hit album Laid in full, which will be the first time they’ve ever done that. Each night will open with Laid, followed by a second set featuring “hits, rarities, deep cuts, and fan favorites.”

“So looking forward to returning to North America,” says frontman Tim Booth. “This time the album Laid will be the centrepiece of the set lists with the addition of deep cuts and favorites. Catch us before the end of the world and soak in the uplift of our nine piece love bomb.”

So, as a Cleveland noob I havent been to blossom yet.

I won some lawn tickets to A Perfect Circle, Primus, and Puscifer on Record Store Day.

How does lawn seating work? Is the view and sound quality ok? Is the traffic leaving really bad? Just looking for some input from people who have actually been there instead of relying on FAQs.

Blossom - I've seen a lot of amazing shows there in spite of its logistics. I'm at the point where it has to be a reallllly compelling act to make the trek there. Yes, sound and views are usually great from my experiences and once you're there it's a great venue in a cool setting.

Being of a certain age and okay fine - I can be a little bougie 😆 but I need an actual seat for a show so I'm Team Pavilion. That said - for lawn seating, pray that the few days before have been dry. Yes you can bring a blanket but the lawn can get really muddy and slippery - on a bit of an incline. You can rent low-slung lawn chairs (can't bring your own, last I heard) but you have to wait in line to get them and return them.

Traffic. Easily the most loathsome part of any Blossom show. If they offered helicopter taxis from Cleveland, I'd seriously consider it. It's bad enough that peoples' overall situational awareness has gone out the window but take 20,000 people out to a semi-rural area, load them up with drinks, and then dump them out on to one or two roads and hope for the best. Yes, they provide traffic control but what they really need are giant cattle prods to keep people moving.

Oh - for anyone who wants to mention a certain lesser known route - your post WILL be edited 😈
