No doubt.  If you want people to support the director and his movie, that is not the picture to post.  Makes him look like a db.

Hello All

I wanted to promote THE BEST Fish Fry in Cleveland, OH.  If you live on the near west side and are looking for a fish fry, please call St. Colman church your headquarters.  On Fridays during Lent, St. Colman will offer fish fry's from 4:30-7:30 PM, including two pieces of fish (fried or blackened), french fries, hand made pierogies, hand made cabbage n noodles, mac n cheese, coleslaw, applesauce, baked beans, roll with butter, dessert, and drink.  The cost is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.  I will be manning the stove and i can promise you we put out a good product.

After, go wash it down with some good craft beer in Gordon Square!!

THanks for the Heads Up.  For the past few years we have been going every Friday during Lent to various local churches with varying success.  Have not been to St. Colman, but it's right around the corner and a beautiful structure.  The last time we were there was for a city music event.

I'm headed to Lorain's legendary fish fry tomorrow.  I always wish I would remember to go the week before Lent starts, because tomorrow the lines will be out the door.

Going strong every Friday since 1956...

Thanks for the head up!  I will plan on getting there at least once this Lent.  Has anyone been to the Pulaski Post 30 on Starkweather and 11th?  There is a sign up year round that says "Fish Fry - Friday 4-8."

Wow, that sounds great, and what a value! Where is St. Colman?

R N R- 65th and Lorain (on 65th north of lorain).  Essentially .5 miles south of Gordon Square.  I know your palate, so if you come, dont criticize.  It is a church fish fry, but we put our heart and soul into it.  I can attest that everything except the fries are hand made.  the fish is frozen before thawed, breaded and friend,  but tastes good.

EARLY start to festival season this year as St. Clair Superior and the Slovenian Community celebrate Slovenian Carnival, known as Kurentovanje!  Should be pretty awesome...furry beast costumes have been brought in from Slovenia...part of a tradition to scare away winter and welcome in spring.  The parade will feature these costumes and other ethnic dress, as well as food trucks, Slovenian beer and wine, music, kid events, a flea market and more!

okay, this isn't one of those festivals filled with little-known esoteric indie bands so beloved by urbanohioans (though there might be one of those included). No, this is full of little-known bands of other genres (but really, who hasn't heard of Big Sam's Funky Nation? lol)

Not positive if this will be streamed again, although the channel is up--

The 3rd annual Roar Along the Shore is only a few weeks away!

Friday, September 6, 2013, 8:30 PM to Saturday, September 7, 2013, 12:00 AM

Goodtime III, 825 E.9th Street, Cleveland, OH 44102

Roar Along the Shore is your favorite floating party!  Best views of our skyline here in Cleveland are from the majestic Lake Erie and our great Cuyahoga, seen at night!  Why not add a soundtrack of your favorite local bands and a few (ok, more than a few!) cocktails to boot?!!!  Come as a group or meet your friends on board, but we're all going to be there this year!

The Goodtime has made some key improvements to the boat this year, most notably:  A BIGGER BAR on the 2nd deck!!!  (very welcome news!)

Public Square New Year's Eve celebration comes together

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A group of young professionals joined local officials Monday morning to announce the first of what it hopes will be an annual New Year's Eve celebration on Cleveland's Public Square.

The Ohio Homecoming Group announced the "Cleveland Rocks New Year's Eve 2014" celebration on the steps of City Hall, along with Mayor Frank Jackson, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and Councilman Kevin Kelley.

"This event is just another example of how we want to showcase Cleveland and let people know that Cleveland is the heart of the region," Jackson said.

Kelley described the Tuesday, Dec. 31 celebration as "a fantastic event that will bring thousands of people downtown and create unity in Cleveland on New Year's Eve."

The Cleveland No Pants Subway Ride 2014 will take place on Saturday, January 11th!

We will once again be among close to 60 cities around the world seeking as many particiPANTS as possible for this BRIEF encounter, under the guidelines of Improv Everywhere NYC--where the event originated.  Not a naked day, or day for indecency, this is a family-friendly event to promote a little harmless chaos and joy.  The goal is not to make a spectacle of yourself, but to underplay it and not react, letting the people around you wonder if you're even aware that you don't have pants on.  Maybe you left them at home.  Maybe the dog ate them.  Whatever excuse you give them is up to you.

In reality, we will all meet, fully clothed, receive instructions, and go from there.  The only cost for this event is your own RTA pass.

Here is the event listing on FaceBook.  Whether or not YOU are interested, invite everyone you know--you might see your best friends on the news!

For full details, find NoPantsCLE on Yelp or Facebook, or contact nopants2014 at gmail.

Good luck! See you folks in the emergency room.....

Cross posted in the  Cleveland: General Tower City Center developments thread

******************************

The fiancee and I saw 12 Years a Slave this past weekend here (Saturday night). While there was still some work to be done with the facilities (granted, the actual festival set up was to be the following day), the picture and sound inside the theater was perfect. Film Festival visitors will be very happy with what they see and hear.

Cleveland International Film Festival 2014: Digital makeover for Tower City Cinemas

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There are more than 350 films and 200 filmmakers coming to the Cleveland International Film Festival. There just won’t be any film.

The 38th edition of the festival, which runs Wednesday through Sunday, March 30, is going all-digital for 2014.

Nine theaters at Tower City Cinemas recently received a digital makeover with new projectors, new sound systems and new screens. The cost: about $550,000.

The festival was able to upgrade the equipment thanks to partnering with some of Cleveland’s major arts and money players: Forest City Enterprises, owner of Tower City Center; Cleveland Cinemas, which runs the Tower City theaters; and the Gund Foundation, which provided the CIFF with a $500,000 loan.

“It’s the only way we could stay downtown,” said Marcie Goodman, the festival’s executive director. “It’s where we want to be, and where we need to be.”

^Whats great about this is because of the Metroparks Edgewater is becoming an event place. With the continued improvements there and the shoreway conversion look for more things in the future. This event will grow big time over the years. Also nice to see they have solid sponsorship already.

The free Italian film festival starts this week in Cleveland (and several other midwest cities).

See  www.italianfilmfests.org for the complete schedule.

One that may be of particular interest to those on this forum is, "Teorema Venezia" (The Venice Syndrome).  Venice, Italy has become almost unlivable for it's remaining inhabitants due to the large influx of tourists and cruise ships. Films start at 7 p.m. at Stosacher Auditorium, Case Western University.

Did anyone else go to the Hendrix show at the "Rocksino"?  That was my first time there, I don't do the gambling thing much but the venue was nice and the acoustics were sufficient.  Friendly staff, not bad overall.  Great show, Buddy Guy et al. were fantastic at shredding the old tunes.

If anyone would like to take over editing the master list front page,  I'm officially retired as of last year.  I made a long sentimental post respectfully submitting my resignation, but it was wiped clean in the last great urbanohio crash.  I have old stencils from past years if anyone would like to take over.  It'd be appreciated!

Updated: Guest List Grows for Inaugural AP Music Awards

Posted By Jeff Niesel on Tue, Jun 24, 2014 at 11:03 AM

Slated to take place at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on July 21, the inaugural Alternative Press Music Awards will feature a who’s who of emo/punk acts. Acts already scheduled to perform include Fall Out Boy, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Misfits, A Day To Remember, All Time Low, Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco, Asking Alexandria, twenty one pilots and Sleeping With Sirens. Cleveland’s 115-piece Contemporary Youth Orchestra will also perform, and the magazine recently announced that guests to appear include Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Billy Corgan, Korn, Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack, rapper Ice-T and his wife Coco, Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, Memphis May Fire, Motionless In White, Machine Gun Kelly, Emmure’s Frankie Palmeri and I See Stars. Sleeping With Sirens will perform — their performance will be their only North American live performance all summer. Along with a yet-unnamed co-host, Automatic Loveletter frontwoman and The Voice season two runner-up Juliet Simms will co-host the red carpet pre-show. Mark Hoppus of Blink—182 will host the awards, and a total of 15 awards will be distributed. Fans can cast their votes in 12 different categories at altpress.com/apmas. Voting ends July 15, and AXS TV will broadcast the show live. The concert is open to the public; tickets can be purchased through the AP website.

Update: Yellowcard and Paramore will also make appearances and Machine Gun Kelly, Chiodos and We Came as Romans are also scheduled to perform.

I just saw this, but this is HUGE. As someone who listens to the metalcore/hardcore/punk genres, this is a pretty big deal with pretty big names. I'm bummed I didn't get tickets. Definitely all giddy looking at my instagram feed with all my favorite bands posting shots of the rock hall and Cleveland skyline while they are doing their rehearsal for tomorrow. Props to AP for showing some hometown love. Hope this is an annual event here in CLE and for the rock hall. This is the kind of stuff we need!!

Watching some of the AP awards show live on AXSTV. City looks great, the whole event looks first class. If you have uverse its on 1106. HayleyWilliams from Paramore just on...so damn cute..

Geez, I had no idea about this national event.  Some serious big names on that list!!

Not my type of music but I've been watching since it's in Cleveland.  The production has too much dead air and too many mics that aren't working.  There are kinks that definitely need worked out but hopefully this is an annual thing in Cleveland.

Its a shame it isnt on TV

Its a shame it isnt on TV

It's on TV if your provider is anyone but TWC in Cleveland. It's on AXS tv. Bummed I can't watch it.

On a side note, the CEO of AP said he was going to have it in Vegas but it worked out that he could have it in CLE because of the bands' concert schedules (most are on warped tour). It's a shame they wanted Vegas first, but glad they were able to make it work here (considering AP is headquartered here).  Definitely hope it's an annual event, though the whole "Vegas thing first" has be skeptical.

Just found it on tv.  Downtown Cleveland is light up beautifully.

As of right now the #APMAs are the #3 trending topic on Twitter.  There have been many mentions about it being in Cleveland.  That's some good free publicity.

So did anyone go to this?  Hang out with Billy Corgan, Ice T, Slash, or Joan Jett?
